Aw, rats.

I want to know how he's got his eyes like that if he's not blind.

I don't know, but the eyes are freakin' creepy. Looks like something out of a really good, frightening, horror movie that hasn't been made yet.

Edit: The snippet from the AP story within that article says the dog is blind.

When your Cheetah or what is its name is as old and ugly as Sam, we'll see how you <3 it

On topic: my eyes hurt  I feel sorry for the poor dog, but I guess the only reason it has not been put to sleep is the fact that the owner wins some prizes over the dog's misery.

Sam's 14; my dog(Cheeco)'s gonna be 10 soon. So they're basically the same age.

I can't believe you're doubting my love, especially of all animals.

When I have enough space later in life, one of my goals is to adopt a few animals - but the ones that no one wants...The ones only a mother could love, y'know? Animals such as little Sam, for instance...The ones with disabilities/retardations/flaws in appearance, etc. I want to make them feel loved and wanted, just as I would like to feel if I were in their position. <3

Poor dog at fourteen it's in a lot of pain and has a lot of problems and it's owner doesn't have the decency to lay the little one to rest. Don't ridicule the poor thing you horrid woman it probably gave you a lot of companionship. Just allow it to die a dignified death.

In case you haven't guessed I'm very much against these sorts of competitions and would love to see the day where they all end once and for all.

That dog looks like a 6-year old anchovie with teeth. I now don't want to be blessed with extra years on my life after seeing that. His eyes are kickass though.

In reply to DuxDucis, but open to whomever -

First off, "Worlds ugliest animal" is no more pointless and superfical than "best of breed" or any other judgement. It's all based on someone's opinion that's come to be regarded as the rule.

I don't give a damn about conformation and breeding. That's not what makes a good companion, so none of those awards ever meant a damn thing in my book anyway. This is no different, but at the very least, it's got a bit more of a "ha-ha" -not taking themselves so damn seriously tone to it.

You ever met these people who own the ultimate whatever in the country? They're impossible to talk to like normal humans and their pets are typically more along the lines of investment property than a companion or friend. Sad really..

And apparently, you missed the bit about how since his health is now poor, he won't be making any further public appearances or competitions.

It's not a given that the animal is in pain. It's health is poor, yes. That's been stated, but that doesn't mean it can't still enjoy a quiet and happy life at home with those who love it and vice versa.

Personally, if I'm in intolerable and constant pain.. then yeah. I'd want someone to have the decency to end it. (Though it's usually illegal for humans, which is stupid IMO), but if not.. I still wanna be here.

In my view, it should be no different for pets. If you love them and pay attention, you'll know when their pain and suffering is sufficient that it outweighs their joy and happiness and desire to remain with us. Then, and only then would euthanasia be appropriate IMO.

I have no direct evidence either way, but what facts I have read on the matter would suggest his owner is of similar mind.
