Most of Christian Lindberg's performances are about sheer insane musical virtuosity - how many brass players, I wonder, would dare attempt a full-speed rendition of 'Flight of the Bumblebee' (although the record-holder for fastest performance is still Chuck Dallenbach who, in 1987, managed the piece in 32 seconds. On a freakin' tuba) or 'Csardas'? But Lindberg demonstrates in this CD that he can make his Conn 88 sound beautifully lyrical as well - his pilfered overture to Rossini's 'Barber of Seville' is brilliant (mind you, the damned thing was written for full orchestra), and his rendering of the Schumann romances are simply beautiful. But if you want a taste of what insanity the Psycho King of Trombonists is capable of, you should check out his version of Mozart's 'Ah! Vous Dirai-je Maman' (aka Twinkle Twinkle Little Star), which was written for the piano. I'm a pianist by default, and I despair.

Sixteen of London's top trombonists playing together as a solid ensemble. It's a pretty good album - although I suppose you wouldn't care too much for it if you're not a brass player, because the album consists of nothing but trombones (and the occasional percussion instrument). BUT! if there's a piece you should really listen to from this CD, it would be their arrangement of Meredith Willson's '76 Trombones' from the musical 'Music Man'. I say this because somehow, by some act of miracle (or would the rest of you cry, 'calamity!'?), the producers of this album managed to recruit a grand (obscene) total of - you won't believe this - SEVENTY-SIX trombonists from all over London to perform this piece. For the first time in history, the piece is living up to its name. Honestly, you have no idea what '76 Trombones' should sound like until you've heard this recording. It can be enlightening or traumatic, depending on your state of mind.

9.5/10
Their music is just... good. The melodies, playing, lyrics, the ''themes'' of the songs...
everything locks into place. I can't really say, what's exactly good about the band
and their songs, it's just... well, let the music say it
Best songs:
Run to the Hills
Fear of the Dark
2 Minutes to Midnight
Aces High
Powerslave
Back to the Village
The Prisoner
The Mercenary
Blood Brothers
The Evil that Men Do
Wasted Years

@Assasin Joly: Your sig reads "come in at piont blank range"
OT:
I reccomend The Lostprophets first album (The fake sound of progress) so much better and less commercial than the new album, every track is awesome. It should've been much bigger than it was.

Freelance Hellraiser, McCartney Go A-Mashing
James Gregory reports:
Man, and we thought U2 was late to the electronica game when they dropped Pop. News has recently surfaced that notorious techno-masher Freelance Hellraiser has been working on an album of remixes with none other than Paul McCartney. According to the NME, the pair have been collaborating on a 2xLP of re-imagined (read: techno-riffic) Macca tracks under the moniker Twin Freaks-- named for a 1990 McCartney painting-- after hitting it off on McCartney's last world tour, where the "Cute Beatle" had Hellraiser (British DJ Roy Kerr) open his shows with remixes of key solo tracks.
The album's debut single, "Really Love You", has already been making the rounds on UK radio, and offers a remix of McCartney's Flaming Pie cut of the same name. A 12" vinyl single of the track is slated to hit stores on June 6 via Graze Records, while the duo's self-titled double album is set for a vinyl release through EMI the following week, on June 13. The tracklist boasts a number of McCartney solo classics (as well as a few head scratchers), and includes such hits as "Live and Let Die", "Coming Up", and "Maybe I'm Amazed". Your mother should know:
>>LP1
Side A
01 Really Love You
02 Long Haired Lady (Reprise)
03 Rinse The Raindrops
Side B
01 Darkroom
02 Live And Let Die
03 Temporary Secretary
>>LP2
Side C
01 What's That You're Doing
02 Oh Woman, Oh Why
03 Mumbo
Side D
01 Lalula
02 Coming Up
03 Maybe I'm Amazed
The upcoming Twin Freaks release marks McCartney's most recent foray into mass market experimentation, who, like one-time collaborator Elvis Costello, has had his share of genre-bending vanity projects. His previous similar effort, 2000's Liverpool Sound Collage, being one of the more interesting, as it spliced together electronica flourishes with unreleased Beatles studio chatter, random interviews, and backing support from Welsh heroes Super Furry Animals. Oh yeah, and that's Sir Paul to you.
I'd really reccomend this when it comes out, especially if you have the ability to play vinyl. If you liked Dangermouse's 'Grey Album', this is a must.

I know it's not my place but-
- Rather than just listing bands / albums, please try and say a lttle bit about them or at least give a link to a USEFUL page concerning that band / artist. Tell us what you like about the music, rather than turning the thread into 'what are you listening to right now, part 2"

They are Jrock. I have never liked bands soley because they have messages within their songs, I can appreciate and do like songs and bands that are politically minded and stuff, but I don’t often care for the messages within songs.
Music for me has always been, and will always be an aesthetic pleasure. That’s why I don’t care that a lot of TMCM’s songs are a mixture of Japanese and Engrish.
They are quite an old band, they have 11 albums (not including Best of albums or the live album).
The first album is quite punky, and over the years they progressed to much heavier things, and brought in a lot more synthesisers and digital technology to their sounds, the bassist Takeshi is mad good on bass, so good in fact that the bass is usually the main guitar in most of the songs. He plays it like a normal guitar sort of
Anyway, how to describe the genre beyong Jrock? I have read them being described as “Digi-techno-punk-rock-metal”. And I am quite happy with that description
Owing all of their albums (bar 1) I can say that their musical range does cover all of these genres and the like.
Their last album was so much more hardcore then anything they’ve previously done. The three before that were the most heavily Techno/synthed albums, and they were awesome for it.
If you ever want to get hold of albums the best to get are:
“Digidogheadlock”
“_010”
“Oscillator in Distortion”
“Cistm Konfliqt”
They seriously rock my socks, im sickened by most anthems, ballads and queer love songs, I don’t care to hear people bitch most of the time, I just want to rock the fuck out, with the occaisional chill out song to break it up. The music is manic, but kick ass.
Ill try get hold of some samples of favourite tracks
These tracks are from Oscillator in Distortion
Go here and theres a panel of songs to listen to.
Please listen to the samples of Tribe, Sunny Beach, Good Girl and Midi-Surf…..especially Midi Surf.
Osc-Dis samples baybeh!
Also here is the full song “Pulse” with the video, the stream starts off lame but listen to it and watch it
Pulse video
I cant seem to fins any _010 samples, so here is a link to some Cistm Konfliqt stuff
Cistm Konfliqt Music and videos
Check out the S.C.A.R.Y video, it’s pretty damn cool, its quite happy chilled at some points and manic at others. Also, the actual videos kick ass.
Also please please check out the music links, listen to Retalk, Loud Up!!(seriously) and for some chillage Happy Ride.
SO yes, this band is my main band. My favourite band. The music I always listen to inbetween sampling other stuff. And if I run out of other stuff to listen to, I have 10 albums of goodness to peruse
Please just have a listen to all the stuff I recommended before giving an opinion.
If anyone would like to hear some full tracks PM me.
