Just watched Tomorrow When the War Began, the movie based on the series of books written by John Marsden in which a portion of Australia get's unrealistically but hillariously rofl-stomped by an indeterminite enemy force who is only really ever described as "ASIAN." Needless to say this curiously xenophobic work justified for an entire generation of Australian teenage girls the fear of the "asian invasion - which is totally going to happen." Apparently teenage girls take things too literally and are not often over-endowed with intelligence. Who knew?

Anyway, with that as a starting point, it was never really going to be an amazing movie, but they felt the need throw in a few absolutely retarded plot devices and staggeringly incorrect portrayals of rural Australia anyway.

2.5/10.

Presumably our military forces consist of more than one single jet that gets shot down immediately, though.

Well, there wasn't really a way for Australia to prevent a gigantic space colony from dropping.

The American

George Clooney plays Jack, an assassin who goes into hiding in a small village in Italy after some shit goes down in Sweden.
It's a really slow paced movie, very well shot (Anton Corbijn, the director is a very well reknowned photographer, which probably helped), and has an appropriate score. All of this in combination creates a mood which makes me think of 70s movies like Bullit (yeah, I know it's from 1968, close enough).

All in all I liked it, but the slow pacing and lack of action will definitely be a sticking point for a lot of people. Something was missing to make this a great movies though. Now it was just kinda good.

I found it very strange, the story didn't really go anywhere or do anything and there really wasn't a final resolution. But it was a good journey.

The American had a tense, wonderful atmosphere. But Kent is far above me.

Went to see Limitless, which was awesome.

I haven't seen this film but I was never one to let my ignorance get in the way of my opinion, which is this: it's a film about a dude who is a writer and his inability to write anything good. Then he finds a magic pill that unlocks the HIDDEN POWER of the 80% or 20% or whatever percentage of his brain he doesn't use, which is a crock of shit and anyone who still believes that this is a fact is using way below their allotted 20% or 80% or whatever, and he is suddenly super-talented and a mega-writer and people respect and fear him. Then Robert De Niro pops up just to kinda say hey, remember me?

If you are a writer of any kind, and you are finding it difficult to write something, and you then strike on the brilliant idea of writing about how difficult it is to write, stop. Take out your wallet and check any personal identification you may be carrying. Is your name Charlie Kaufman? Statistically, your name is unlikely to be Charlie Kaufman. In the slim chance that it is, please, proceed as you were. If not, put your wallet in your mouth and choke yourself to death with it.

It's an old chestnut that people should write what they know, but if you don't know anything, do not write and especially do not write about not being able to write. Seriously. It's not 'meta', it's not 'post-modernist', it's boring, predictable, and as close as you can get to phoning it in without picking up a handset. When you utilise this trope you are in serious danger of becoming Natasha Bedingfield. And if you believe the 20% of the brain bullshit, feel free to also believe that as an actual fact.

U mad.

The writing bit is like the first 20 minutes of the movie, and the 20% of the brain bit is a throwaway line to explain the drug. They later go into more detail about how it works or at least what it does to your brain. Watch the movie before you criticize it's plot.

Yeah, the part when he's a writer only lasts for a short while before he realizes where the big money's at. It was a pretty awesome idea though as Choked mentioned before, it was hard to see where the story was going, but I didn't really care about that at all. It was interesting and entertaining, though it won't have no way near the same effect on me the next time I watch it.

Also; mythbusters proved the only using 10% of your brain thing was bullshit.
