Little Nicky has a lot of scenes in hell.

I just watched The Talented Mr. Ripley. It's a great story, with great acting and directing. But it's incredibly long and slow paced, I kept waiting for something to blow me away about this film but it never really did. Which is disappointing considering all i'd heard about it.

I watched Drive.
Don't know what to make of this movie. The cinematography was brilliant and I loved the action scenes, very stylish and unique movie in those aspects, but...
The characters felt undeveloped, I mean there was barely anything known about any of them and maybe I'm wrong, but it felt like the movie was trying to tell an emotionally strong story, but it there was no attachment to the characters and it failed to deliver that. I mean, I get it, the driver is a good guy and all trying to save the girl and the boy, but other than that, it's weird how it's implied that he's in love with this woman after a couple of weeks or something, knowing that she has a husband and all. If this was really the point of the plot, than it didn't come through.
I loved it though, it's a very special movie in this sea of romantic comedy and comic book rehash mediocrity.

1D, I hope you mean 2D, or you must've been trippin' up something serious.

Iron Sky

People need to be honest with themselves and take off their rose-colored glasses. Iron Sky is overrated (8/10 on IMDB, gee) and sucks pretty much. From my point of view the comedy/satire aspect does not justify all these plotholes, poor characters and lame jokes. But thanks to a good marketing people won't mind that and find it awesome nonetheless, just because.

98% of those are people who worked on the film most probably, can only take IMDB scores seriously when there's at least 60k ratings

What were you waiting for to blow you away, some huge explosion lol? I think it had a perfect length man, it was all about character development and the suspense of his situation, digging himself deeper and deeper. def deserved all the praise it received.

so far this weekend, have watched: Another planet and Hesher. Both quality films

Yeah, it was and is praised so much and everyone is going nuts over it. Reading the reviews and comments on IMDB it looks like hell of a lot people are really moved by it, but I think the storytelling part wasn't that good, for the reasons I mentioned above. It's more of a "cool and manly" movie rather than moving.

Oh, I thought you were talking about Drive.

I don't know what it is about Drive. Some people absolutely love it (me included), others think it's just alright. You said the characters felt underdeveloped, but i disagree completely. I'd say you're given enough information to build every character to a necessary level. There isn't much development throughout the film, but each character is developed well within their first scene. Apart from Driver, who's meant to be mysterious and enigmatic, and even at the end he's still quite ambiguous, just he did the right thing for the sake of doing the right thing.

I just watched Shame and it was brilliant. Simple and reserved. Very artsy, but amazing story telling.

No, i was waiting for the story to blow me away. But I was bored by it. I've seen better everything. Matt Damon was awesome, but the pacing was just too sluggish. The story could have been executed much better had it been presented in a different way.

...lol

I loved Drive too. I'm just a sucker for great cinematography coupled with a sick soundtrack, Drive killed it in those aspects. And Gosling's character was just badass. I can understand people feeling like it was overrated though for sure.

Agreed on shame, Quality film

There's four films that made me shed a tear in my life, this, AI, Terminator 2, and Bicentennial Man which I didn't even enjoy at all infact I would never watch it again.

I watched Good Will Hunting for the first time earlier at it was spectacular. Everything I expected from a movie of such high praise. Brilliant performances, writing, directing, pacing, characters, story, everything. This film is as close to perfect as you can get, in what it's trying to achieve, in it's genre. I knew I was a fool for taking so long to watch it.

Also just watched The Woodsman which is really good, dark, drama about a convict seeking redemption. Great performance from Kevin Bacon, very understated and internal.

I saw TITANIC 3D this week. Had never seen Titanic before. Screw the haters, that movie was great, James Cameron is a boss, and it was the most moving movie I've seen in a long time.
