Quit eating chocolate. Quit drinking beer. Quit video games. Quit the internet. Quit everything you enjoy doing. It's cheaper.Quit smoking. It's cheaper.I couldn't say what the prices are like nationwide, but we were hit by a pretty massive cigarette tax earlier in the year.

I'm sorta in the same boat as you and have quit for almost the same time. I quit June 20. My fiancee and I both smoked when we met. Now I quit and she is still smoking. I can agree with the rubbing it in your face part. She has tried to quit several times since but she might need the patch or something. I quit cold turkey. Sometimes I still get cravings when I see/smell her or others smoking but I tell myself I have made it this far, I would be an ass to go back to it now. BTW I smoked for 10 years straight with only a week of not smoking at max some of the times I have attempted to quit before. So I went to a house party with my girlfriend last night and she spent the evening chatting with her friends and smoking loads. That wouldn't matter much except I gave up smoking because she didn't like it and haven't smoked in about 4 months. It's not even like I thought "oh great now we can both smoke!" because I've really enjoyed stopping and don't really have any intention to start again. Kind of feels like a kick in the teeth. So, yeah. :/
I discovered the smell one day after jerking off and I like to lick my hand clean so when I brought it up to my face I thought "That don't smell right."

So, this whole plain packaging thing, do you think it's actually going to change much? I personally am not under any illusions about the health issues involved with smoking so I don't see how this is going to do anything (the idea behind plain packaging seems to be that people will be less likely to start/continue smoking if there is no flashy branding).
I don't smoke because I think it's cool, I smoke because I enjoy it, not that I'm trying to defend it.
Thoughts?

I've been a smoker for the past 3 years and am on the way to giving up. It's been about 3 weeks so far since my last cigarette, and on the whole I feel a lot better, though I do miss the shit out of it, especially when drinking with friends and they are smoking. I'm thinking I might just reform my habit and limit myself to a box of cigarillos every two months or so, kind of like a treat for the right occasion.
Edit: On the topic of PP, the statistics from the last tax hike here show that it's easily the most effective way of getting people to give up. It was something like 3-400,000 people that quit. I don't think this will have a comparable effect on people who are already addicted.

When are people going to leave others alone for their minor vices? Honestly, what next? Is the government going to march into my home and snatch away my fatty foods? Ban weekend lie ins? Fine those who don't exercise? Ration alcohol, lest I get a bit carried away with the gin? It's just ridiculous.

I'm fully aware that my lifestyle, and that's not just confined to the smoking part, is probably heading me towards a heart attack. I don't care though because I don't see the point of being an old man for an extra two decades, especially if I can't smoke, drink and eat bacon. When are people going to leave others alone for their minor vices? Either that or just start smoking weed all the time.
