Oh good god. Right, like the Demon's Souls thread gets much action anyway. But what the fuck, guys? Don't you know a good game when you see it?

DARK SOULS! This year, in Japan at least. God knows when we'll get our hands on it.

Demon's Souls' spiritual successor boasts beaaauutiful graphics, a new dark fantasy world, and, of course, ball-busting difficulty is promised.

seems like a same engine but new game upgrade. Like Sonic to Sonic 2, or something.


but i'm well aware i may be underselling it.

I'll certainly be getting it, lets see if they can iron out all of the kinks from the first game and apply awesome 'advances' to turn it from a 8.9 game to a 9.5 or >

I'm going to be all over this. Wonderful news.

I am suprised just how much of it is the same, when spiritual successor was being thrown around i assumed it would be quite different aesthetically but I shocked to see how much is the same.

That sounds like a bad thing but it certainly isn't.

I'm wondering if they'll make more standard MP/ Co-op integration. It would be nice if there was a way to join a friend, but still have your interactions severely limited.

I tried to stop myself, but I couldn't help but compile a geeky wishlist.

- Ragdoll effects your character as well as the enemies, and has an effect during the death of the enemy, not just post death on the floor.
- Fix the ragdoll of enemies dead on the floor, and the way they stick to you.
- More varied armor sets, and more that are in competition with each other.
- Less 'unique' weapons, and more 'normal' weapons, which can be upgraded etc.
- perhaps a new way of attacking, instead of having 3 types of attack.
- You can hold your sword/shield in any hand you want, and it still works the same way.
- More of an incentive to play NG+, instead of just more of a challenge.
- Fix all the bugs/ glitches.
- make the game about 1/3 or so longer.

That's all i can think of right now. Perhaps your starting class should mean more?

They've taken away starting classes I believe.
And they've said there's much more armour/items/weapons, so hopefully that's covered. Fully agree about ravenous and less unique and more normal weapons.

Id like to see them offer Soul storage, maybe at a cost of 5% of what you're storing?

now the game is more 'open' planned, and there is no nexus to return to so to speak, I imagine the whole death-souls relationship will have to be rethought. But for now we can only speculate.

As much as I love Northern Regalia, I feel like it is kind of a game-breaker on NG+ and NG++. I'm almost on to NG+++ and I did it with my eyes closed, damn sword is just too powerful. I think they should take away the immense damage that special weapons do, and maybe give them special attack animations instead. I'm thinking of switching to the crushing mirdan hammer +5 so I can challenge myself again. Or starting a new character.

So, in Dark Souls, more difficulty would be appreciated all around. Once you get to know Demon's Souls it isn't that hard, really.

ah yeh that's another point, perhaps enemy placement/numbers should be altered at different tendencies or NG's, sort of like 3 layouts in the tenchu games.

I think I'd actually like random placements completely. Now that would be a challenge. I've never used Northern Regalia...

looks amazing, was worried any potential sequel would head toward the mainstream, glad to hear Hidetaka went the other way with it.

It looks faster, and saw a new move, where he was on the beast and stabbing it, i wonder how that is controlled.

HOLY SHIT i was thinking the exact same thing in regards to the Tenchu layout of levels, would make everything so much fresher like it did with Tenchu.

Man....getting real cravings for some Tenchu now. I know this isn't the place and i will only mention it now, but was anyone else severly dissapointed when the surgery guy (who was cool) had really badly pixellated x-rays when he stealth killed? Really took the edge off for me.

yeh a friend described them to me as 'Romeo must die' X ray style kills. "Needles" to say I was very very disappointed.

SS: What’s the single addition to Dark Souls that you’re most excited by?
HM: Probably the Beacon Fire. It stands for a lot of things. It serves as a recovery point; when the player’s health is low, the Beacon Fire helps you recover. It serves as a respawn point as well. So it’s powerful from a gameplay perspective. Secondly, the Beacon Fire will be used to share experiences with other players. It’s a place where players can gather together and communicate — not verbally communicate, but emotionally communicate. Third, it’s probably the one place in Dark Souls where users can relax just for an instant. In this cold, dark world, the Beacon Fire is a place of warmth. It’s one of the few locations in the game that is heartwarming. It expresses this dark fantasy world I’m trying to create.

Ah, that was a good interview you found there. I like that he's trying to make the weapons more unique rather than plentiful.
