Anyway I think Bateson will not have the right to speak on it before the game release. In some time before the release date, I think Io will explain the thing indirectly without mentioning the name Bateson. " We needed a voice that corresponds better to the ambiance of Absolution and to the new 47 ". This kind of thing.


Besides, it's not even sure they explain anything.

The problem I have with Bateson's dismissal isn't that it's game-breaking (if they make a Hitman game 100 years from now, obviously Bateson won't be voicing it) , but that it could be endemic of a larger problem... disregard for the fanbase. Personally, it stems way back to removing features from Blood Money such as hard saves and weapons load out, etc. Then came the Kane & Kynch obsession and "The world needs more Kane & Lynch first." Now, the marketing strategy that emphasizes action game play. All these things, including the Bateson fiasco, are an affront to the long-time fans.

Admittedly, IO and it's employees have tried to dissuade these fears and perceptions as much as allowed. They may have a good reason for letting Bateson go, and they may or may not ever say what it is. When Absolution comes out, it may be a wonderful game that we always hoped for, surpassing all expectations. Let's hope so. Still, there's ample reason for fans to feel disenfranchised, and Bateson's absence is just a part of it that continues to draw attention.

As I wrote above, Io could bring much explanations, it would be not enough. I understand the contempt they may have against the narrow mindedness of some fans and their overreaction from the start. Bateson does not have the right to explain himself because he would try to denigrate the choice of Io during the marketing campaign. It is a risk that Io can not take. Moreover Io follows a marketing calendar, it's as simple as that.



Daniel confirmed that Bateson had not served as a model for 47. It's a legend.

Expert, the biggest point (of all of this) is there was not and hasn't been a single explanation, at first to Bateson and then to the fans. I don't consider the passion of the fans to be narrow minded, but I do question the relentless defense of a company whose actions have been anything but scrupulous. I think Bateson has handled the situation with relative tact and dignity given he was told one minute he had a job and then had the rug pulled from under him. In the end, it doesn't serve as the foundation whether Bateson influenced the look of 47 or not (despite the extreme physical similarities), what matters is the opinion of the individual fan on whether they like where the franchise is headed. So far, at least with the Hitman fan base, that's not looking too good.

Either way, my issue has never been about design it's been with the loss of Bateson and company, the treatment of the fan base, and the disappointing manner IO has handled everything.

People say Bateson really liked doing 47. In that case I have a glorious conspiracy theory to explain why they sacked him.

One day Bateson appeared at work dressed like 47. IO was like "wow, that's some strange commitment" but let it slide. A few days later he stood by one of the developers. The dev looked at Bateson's hand and noticed a fibre wire. "Man that's weird" he said to himself. A day later the same thing happened, and when another dev left his nearby cubicle Bateson moved closer. And closer. Then the dev had to leave his cubicle out of fear.

Then the day after that Bateson shouted "I NEED TO USE THE BATHROOM!" at the entire staff. It was then decided he had to be retired for his own good before he killed everyone and/or started bringing Chinese prostitutes into the building in order to subsequently save them.

Also they had to sack Jesper Kyd because whenever he'd compose a song Bateson would go into a weird crouching position and start sneaking across the hallways and make everyone feel uncomfortable.
