Ugh, I'll steer clear from this one. Everything that once made this series stand out from the crop and recognizably unique has been excised. How the mighty have fallen...

Too American, too sanitized, too mainstream, too 'trying-too-hard' to be different... "too" of pretty much anything. We waited 5 years for this?

Soon it will be 6 years.

If it really does end up being the mainstream gimped "tag and kill with Batman" piece of shit I fear it's going to be, I won't buy it. I won't pay one fucking penny to IO/Square Enix for putting out such tripe. I will play it out of curiosity, however. I'll simply borrow the game from a friend.

Quotes from the lead developer, Tore Blystad:
"You never really learn how to play them... you’re never taught how to do things, and you’re just dropped into this world. Someone playing it will think ‘shit, what have I got to do, my target is over there and I have no idea how to get there’ and they just get killed a million times."

"We have paced the game a little bit more than previous games. In Blood Money, we felt it was one huge mission, then another huge mission, then another huge mission… and you always start outside and probe your way in. It got a little repetitive at the end."

Um, okay, what the fuck?

Granted I had JUST gotten over the fact that 47's voice actor was replaced.

He sounds like some dumbass kid.

I can only pray that it was stand-in audio because they didn't have his voice done yet...but I find that unlikely.

IO: Bateson is still available and I know for a fact would enjoy voicing 47 again.

You guys can't be fucking serious if that audio is of the new voice actor. He's terrible.

I hear your concerns.

Optimistic notes:

1. We are not 100% certain this is the voice actor
2. Game still in development, anything can change
3. Gameplay footage still awaits us

They dumped Bateson for THAT? He sounds like the generic tough guy you hear in every game! I can already hear 47 saying corny oneliners. :(

And the NPCs: They sound more New York than Chicago, and they talk too much! Too cinematic, too much Hollywood bad guy Kane and Lynch swearing. Might just be the nature of the demo, though.

Music wasn't bad, but generic compared to Jesper Kyd.

With all the head-scratching choices made for Absolution and the "artistic" direction they've decided to take, not to mention the urge to appeal to the American market AT ALL COSTS, this is going to be a very divisive and polarizing title.

Undoubtly, the casuals are going to love it, but I doubt the long-time fans' goodwill (towards IO and Square-Enix), their brand loyalty and their (our) patience will ever recover from the many times we have been backstabbed with this Absolution episode and its questionable production history.

I might rent or borrow it, my money will not go to IO. I have standards, they (apparently) have not.

Sounds like someone with a voice higher than Bateson's trying to sound like he has a voice deeper than Bateson's. Terrible.

Quit saying 'appealing to Americans' I'm American and hate this new voice actor .

America is just another country in Europe on a different continent if you look at who settled here.

Immigrants from all over the world have been shipped here (willingly and unwillingly) by the boatloads before and after the Revolutionary war.

There are some things that should be noted:
a) it's may be just a placeholder for some reason (maybe the voice actor was sick).
B) 47's impersonating a cop here. Isn't it quite intelligent to change your voice when pretending to be someone else, so that when you are not disguised as someone else no one can recognize you by the voice?
c) Kent and amp saw gameplay and didn't notice a change in 47's voice. Of course they weren't paying attention to it, but still, Bateson has a very recognizable voice. And a wild idea: IO got the Bateson sound from the old games/unused sound files and used them when showing it to amp and Kent to deceive them.

Still, it sounds just too generic. I think there's a warehouse full of clones with generic voices somewhere in Hollywood. They are just sent to a studio with teleporters, and when their work is done, they are sent back to the warehouse. One of those clones has been used once again.

Couldn't they have gotte anyone who sounds like Bateson? Which means sounding like 47.

When you kill for money, there are no rules.

The Small fixes thread. IOI employees and Hitman developers, please take a look at the thread. At the moment there are about 80 small or smallish things that the fans would like to see improved. Many would improve gameplay and shouldn't be too difficult to fix before Absolution is released.

Something else to keep in mind: while in previous games 47 has always been more the quite type who didn't say a whole lot, this new game is more "cinematic" and "story driven." So if this guy is indeed the new voice for 47, we'll be hearing a lot of him I'm afraid. :(

I seriously cannot stop laughing. It seems like one huge practical joke, but it isn't.

Whoever that is, wow. If it is indeed Mark Sloan then that makes it even funnier.

Also, I'm American and I hate the new voice with a passion, as well as the Hollywood way of things. Please stop with the stereotype that all Americans are dumb (well...it is sorta true, but I'm not :P)

I think it's safe to say though that this is more likely the fault of Square Enix considering some of the shit they've been pulling with game developers.
We need to start directing hate mail their way.

I doubt the people at IOI could possibly be that fucking stupid. They need to fight back against Square to bring back someone who can voice act worth a shit. Seriously, if nothing else IO, tell them that Mark Sloan or whoever the fuck that was can suck a dick, and ask for Bateson back. I think you guys want him back too, but were probably fucked over by Square.

Seriously, I've come to the realization that most of this is probably the fault of Square rather than IO. Does anyone have a link to that interview with the game developer that went broke making a Final Fantasy type game and Square kept telling them to fax them binary code?

--

As for other observations of the audio:

1) Music is good, but parts sound like a direct rip-off of Inception. It's a little overly dramatic.
2) Most of the voice acting was good (except the guy in the elevator), but some of the dialogue needs work (the stoners dialogue was awful and overly stereotypical, the whole 'can't small a fart' line, etc.)
3) It does sound like the sound has made a big improvement, so props on that.
4) I like the begging of the cop and how his friends tried to reassure him. Hearing that would make me think twice before killing innocents...or maybe incite me to be more brutal than ever. It adds a lot of realism. That seems like the best improvement to this series that we know of so far.

I understand Mr. 47's been through a lot recently, what with being hunted down for his bone marrow and being on the run. But he isn't a gruff "badass". He's a cool, almost clinical talker. Hell, he only ever cursed when Diana gave him his medicine by surprise.

Now, I'm not going to insult the Voice Actor. He's just doing his job. But IOI: Bateson clearly has an affection for the role. He's probably still interested in providing his vocal talents to 47. I'm pretty sure he could infuse a bit more "drama" into the voice if needed.

Perhaps I'm over-reacting a bit. What with only having the phrase "I never left." to judge the performance on. However, I can tell that it just lacks that 'edge' that Bateson had.
