Bit gutted with the editor tbh. Been playing around for the past hour, and had this concept in my head of like a wave of loads of companion cubes using the catapult things, bouncing back and forth, like hundreds using all of the squares... I got this far:

when I went to test it I got this

GAY, there isn't even that many items man.

Too many items? Shit, we have the computing power, let us build 10 million companion cubes!

I see this having the potential to be awesome if they remove the limit. I'm thinking more "sandbox" than I am "puzzle" here though. There is just a ton of stuff that would be cool to play with that doesn't have a purpose.

I remember Farcry: Predator on the Xbox360 had a multiplayer map editor and more than half the maps people made were obstacle courses, mazes, and similar things. Are you thinking of something like that? Honestly, to me those are the best uses of a map editor. Most people cant really put together a decently balanced map designed for actual play. And it is way more interesting to explore a creative map.

Now that I typed all that out I realize that Portal is an obstacle course game and there is no other way to design a map other than with creativity... I guess I am just asking if you would elaborate on what you mean by "sandbox" and not "puzzle".

Apparently they're making this for actual puzzles as opposed to just playing around with this or that. Can't blame them, but I know someone out there's gonna come up with one that takes a fucking PhD to solve just to be hit by that limit. I figure they'll patch it or something sooner or later.

Valve have nothing to do with gmod. It's all up to garry to do that. There are loads of portal mods for gmod already though..

Plus they don't have to be the makers to do something like that, it's still source, their engine, their baby, in its truest colours. A bit like how they take care of games on steam because it's on their engine, tf2 pre-order items, skyrim workshop etc. though I have read about Valve admitting how hard it is to implement something like a portal gun into anything.

Please favourite it guyz, upvote/comment and subscribe lol. I spent way too much time on this, the companion cubes kept hitting each other in mid air lol, it took so much tweaking

There's just certain things that would be fun to do that have no real puzzle value to them.

I recall in the first one a series of platforms where you jupmed off one and down to the next, and while in the air you had to hit the next higher platform with a portal before you fell so you could get up through it, and then shoot the next one higher, etc.

Think it would be fun to have maybe a hundred in a row and see how far you could make it without missing one.

Things that you could play with and not just solve.

Ah. Just dicking around with the games physics and portal system in a challenging way but without mentally exhausting yourself while doing so. I can't see why that would be a problem. In fact it seems to me that would be the majority of the levels people came up with until everyone got a grip on the system and idea's on puzzles.
