I think it's been confirmed that most of Absolution will take place in the United States (correct me if I'm wrong). In any case, it certainly looks like much of it will. We have multiple Chicago missions, the North Dakota location which seems central to the plot, and now hints at a Hawaii or Florida location (with the new trailer).

Of course, nearly all of Blood Money took place in the United States as well.

I live in the U.S. and I love it but I'm a bit tired of it in Hitman. Especially the rural hick parts of the country shown in Blood Money and now again in Absolution. I miss the international flavor of the earlier games. Even Bateson's vaguely European accent is replaced with something more American, and it looks like the Agency is moving from Europe and becoming a US-based operation.

But-- IOI is located outside of the US and so are many of the fans (including most if not all the HMF staff). Mississippi might be just as exotic to someone in Australia as St. Petersburg is to me.

So, if you don't live in the US, how do you feel about all the US locations?

Despite my concern, I did enjoy the locations in Blood Money's Northern California mission(retirement home) and in Till Death Do Us Part. Also looking forward to Chicago. I was really excited for the White House but the White House in the game seemed very detached from my notions about it and I thought it was rather boring.

The Vegas missions could have been in Europe or Dubai and been more interesting. I never really felt like I was in Las Vegas, but I've never been there in real life so who knows.

I hate the fact it's all in US. I always viewed Hitman as a more European game. Hitman 2 was my favourite, mainly because of the different variety of locations. (Sicily, St. Petersburg, Nooristan, India, Malaysia, Japan etc). I don't get why IO are going for a more American style game; They're one of two European studios that make excellent games (the other being British Rocksteady, who made the Batman Arkham games.)

I agree. I liked it better when 47 was a globetrotting assassin, and Hitman 2 is still my favorite. From Russia to Japan, and Afghanistan, India, Italy, etc. It made for some much more interesting locales.

I see Hitman as world wide. But as an European I must say one of my dream is to make a trip to the USA.
I mean, I grew up with american movies and seen all the cool stuff like the buildings and other things.
So, as a huge fan of Hitman it doesn't bother me that much he only has mission in the USA. But I remember very well IO team (Tore or Christian) said a large part of the game will take place in the USA. I hope at least he will make a comeback to Romania (my country) to search for something at Ort Mayers's laboratory

I see some of the points people make, but America is very diverse if you look the right places. Look at chinatown.
Personally I only cared for europe, russia and a bit of Japan. Nuristan was fun for a while but the location itself was dry and boring, with nothing to see and boring architecture.

America isn't cool anymore, I mean sure during the Cold War era it was seen as the greatest country in the world but I think it's lost that limelight. Western Europe has more of an appeal than the US at the moment I believe.

Agree. I hate that it's US only in this game. Blood Money being 90% US and Absolution 100% is kind of irritating. Like you said, one of the great things in the Hitman games was that you suddenly after open your briefcase discover that your next lead/target is on the other site of the earth. That's thrilling! To me 47 is an international assassin.

With the new American voice it seems they are going 100% all in for the US. To bad, but let's hope it changes in Hitman 6.

I think they are trying to capture the USA audience because many of the american gamers has no life and buy all kind of games, even if shitty only to pas time
In europe, at least for what I know from Italy to Spain, Germany, Romania, France, Poland and other countries teenagers spend much of their time having fun whit parties, drinking and outgoing whit friends
There aren't that many europeans that spends money and time on virtual gaming

I don't mind the American settings but I liked the globetrotting and international feel of the older games. I'm not from America, I was born and live in England, but, I'd say 90% of my tv shows and games come from and are set in america so it is very familiar to me even compared to European countries which are actually closer. I mostly miss the atmosphere of the levels, such as the ones in st.petersburg. Combined with the music. It was just so great.

As long as they keep taking us to new and unusual places I'm ok but the chicago/texas stuff is really played out

I'm fine with it. I'll miss the globetrotting nature of the older games but America is a hotbed of cultural diversity... Theres 50+ states each with their own internal cultures and appearances. Nevada, New York, Misouri, Idaho, California, Oregon, Maine, so many places that are extremely different.

I See what you all are saying about the states, but living here made it kind of nice to play a game that was in places I’ve never been, and face it will probably never go to. Plus I think that the Dark gloomy feel that the series is famous for, fit better in places like Romania and china and such. I feel like the atmosphere was more appropriate in those locations.

That being said Hope is an interesting location. Because not a lot of big games like this will do a mission much less several in a small location like that. So that’s neat I guess.

I am an American and I don't mind that it takes place in the US, not just because I am American. But because I would have to say that SA was my favorite Hitman game, I did enjoy Hitman more when he was traveling to other country's to take out his various targets. Lets remember though that this isn't the last Hitman title that is going to be made, so I am sure that 47 will get a chance to do some traveling in the future, which I think would be more enjoyable than playing a game that takes place all in one country.

On a more personal note, not all American's are the same. America is as diverse as other country's, all country's have there issues & no country is perfect. The fans who live in other country's other than the US can't sit there and say that they don't have people that are over weight, or spend there time doing nothing except play video games, there are these types of people all over the world. I for one have 2 jobs and work all week to make a living, but yes I do enjoy to play a few games in my free time as well as many other things.

So please to the fans in other country's please don't be so quick to put all of American's in the same group, some of us work very hard to feed our family's and raise our children.

Dunno why, but I always thought you were in Europe somewhere :)

I'm glad the Hitman series has featured less 'prominent' places... Romania, Malaysia and Chile to name a few. Pretty interesting to see those kind of environments. That said, i'm not adverse to having it set all in America.

That's cause you can't see how fat I am  Kidding of course, I could stand to visit McD's a little less but I’m not paying for 2 seats on a plane. I'll take it as a compliment

I don't think I'm against it either. so long as they are new missions I’m happy!
By small location I meant specifically in the states. Usually if a game is based here it's going to be in a big flashy city. Kind of like Chicago, but anyways I guess that fits with the series, it's always had missions in small remote locations regardless of country. Hopefully the next game will be more international.

I personally don't care much for the US being the main backdrop. A world-class assassin stuck in one country the entire time is boring, unless they use the elements of other countries and cultures that America borrows as a whole, but I doubt that'll happen.

EDIT: Nevermind, just saw the Chinatown news.

<Sarcasm>

I don't think it's save for our gaming industry if Hitman goes to exotic places to shoot natives. It might throw the industry back to the sixties. It would be best if he'd stay in the safer states of USA (not the Bible ones for God's sake) and mostly shoot balding, fat, middle aged white men. Germany is of course also acceptable as long as he takes out military targets.

</Sarcasm>

On a serious note it'd be cool if Hitman went to Scandinavia. I'm from Iceland and Sam Fisher came here for one mission and it was a cool experience. We aren't many but still I can think of quite a few assignments for 47 (mainly in the banking industry). Denmark and Finland would also be other good choices in Scandinavia. Apart from that I'm fine with having the game mostly set in the USA. When it comes down to levels in Hitman it's more "DESIGN, DESIGN, DESIGN!" than "LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!" ;Þ

So, if you don't live in the US, how do you feel about all the US locations?

America has a nice variety of cities, so there can be very different scenarios to go, so it does not bother me much. 47 is not a free guy anymore that can go anywhere now, he has to be careful...BUT...it would be cool to have places like Russia, China, even Japan or other countries like that, where you feel like a complete outsider and have to try do blend in. It would add to the tension, but if they chose that path is OK.

The talks of the next game, i think it was called Professions, have me thinking this might be a more hit oriented game instead of this running for your life thing, so you might get more countries to go, well at least i hope so.

So, making this short. It does not bother me. It would be cool to have other places, but if they can make a good diversity of levels i'm fine with it, i just want to play that freaking game already after so much time.
