I noticed there was lots of discussion about weapons, happening in bits and bites around the forum, sprouting spontaneously in random threads. This thread allows for one fixed area to discuss weapons, if nothing else.

We've all known that the previous Hitman games have had a wide array of weapons, there's not doubt Absolution will feature the same.
One thing I noticed, however, is that non-stealth weapons are for more abundant than stealth ones.

Let's admit some things;

I) A gamer who plays Hitman the way it was meant to be played will only use stealth weapons (when playing seriously, see IIb below)

II) The non-stealth weapons only served 2 purposes:

a) A trophy collection (we all admired looking at our garden shed filled to the brim with shiny guns)

c) To use on Rambo playthroughs (people who had completed the game SA style then just wanted to create bloodbaths)

III) The broken shooting mechanics and unpolished gunplay of the previous games discouraged the use of non-stealth weapons even more.

> I've noticed this is a trend on lots of stealth games. For instance, DTS only has 1 silenced pistol (yes, ridiculous, I know). There are 8 non-silenced pistols available that are virtually useless because the game has horrendously bad gunplay.

>Below is a weapon's list for Blood Money. (put in spoilers to save space). You can easily see how the number of non-stealth weapons is greater than stealth ones.
Spoiler

Reasons why I think non-stealth weapons are more prominent:

1) For realism; the guards and other NPCs need to be armed... but thugs and guard don't usually need silenced guns.

2) Absolution will have revamped gunplay, thus making firefight playthroughs more enjoyable and common

3) Hitman has always encouraged choice, but the choice of running-and-gunning was pointless in past titles. Admit it, the shooting gameplay was lackluster (the stealth gameplay was awesome, though)

Stealth weapons in the series:

I just think there should be more in addition to the ever-familiar:

- Silverballers
- Fibre Wire
- Chloroform
- Syringes
- Silenced pistols (SLP.40, etc.)
- W2000

So, the main thing is:

Hitman = stealth game, yet majority of weapons are useless for stealth

So wouldn't it be more productive to have a greater selection of stealth weapons to enhance the genuine gameplay?

It's obvious IO would want to encourage stealth gameplay, yet the games are loaded with desert eagles, shotguns, assault rifles, and other things that 47 wouldn't be caught dead using during a mission because of their super loud reports and unconcealable nature.

Wouldn't it be more faithful if the stealth-repetoir was enhanced? More silenced pistols? Grappling hooks? Combat knives?

More stuff on weapons, things to consider:

- In BM, the only sniper that was concealable was the W200 via suitcase. All other sniper rifles had to be picked up from ICA crates and were utterly useless because you'd wreak havoc the moment you walked around with one. Hopefully the suitcase system returns, and 47 doesn't hide sniper rifles in his magic pockets.

- I really like how the improvised weapon system gives alternate stealth options. I know that a bong to the head is not so subtle... but using electrical cord to strangle someone is quite nice and adds to immersion

- will 47 be able to unscrew and attach silencers at will? (Credit to Habit for brining this up)

_______________________________________________________________

* I apologize if a thread like this already exists

* This thread can also be used for productive discussion regarding the game's weapons in general

* I am not trying to bash Absolution, I adore the game immensley. I am just curious as to why the weapons are the way they are.

Nice post, and I agree with you. However, the one thing that has always made Hitman stand out is the choice the player has to be stealthy or not. Does that mean the stealth/non-stealth weapons should be equal in quantity? I don't think so. For me, if there's enough variety on both sides then I'm happy. It's not like we're only getting one stealth option, but I hear what you're saying.

From the demo I watched at E3 there was a wide range of stealth options, and that was only one mission. Personally I'm not worried about Absolution, I think it will offer many weapons to please both kinds of players :)

Edit: I think you should add another option to the poll...people who use either, depending on the situation in the game. I never just stuck with stealth or non-stealth.

We've only seen four stages so far now (Chinatown, Orphanage, Library, Hope). I don't think you can draw any conclusions about the arsenal of weapons available from such a small number of missions. I'm sure there will be plenty of unique and interesting stealth and non-stealth weapons.

I removed the poll, it felt redundant. Sorry if you were looking to vote...

I'm doing something known as "trend-following" a very common tactic in stock and futures trading made popular by Michael Covel and the Turtles.

I'm not making blatant conclusions that the weapons will be lacking, I just have a strange premonition that there will be more desert eagles and shotguns than their will be silencers.

...well to be fair in BM
your pistol/sniper/shotgun/m4/mp5/ all can be stealth or unstealth

plus your pistol could be made to be as powerful and loud as an eagle or weak/ stealth pistol
and so on with all the other weapons you could customize in BM

like the sniper
can be made to a really powerful auto sniper.... or a single shot suppressed sniper

.....
i hope absolution has this feature cause it would In my View balance out the Stealth weapons to the non stealth one

Note: I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear at first. I am not trying to discuss the stealth options in the game. I know them all too well and it's obvious this game has no shortage of stealth.

I am referring to the distribution of stealth weapons.

Please read every letter of the OP before posting.

What other weapons do you suggest for stealth?

I'd like to see any weapon that can be silenced be able to have the silencer option in the level, Meaning it can be taken off or added at any point in the level.

do you mean me?
 well i was comparing how your main weapon can be change to many different type of weapons
...like the w2000, it can be single shot, auto, powerful, weak, suppressed,or loud
so the number of "stealth" weapons didnt bother me at all
cause they gave me all the base tools and from there i can add my "spice" to it

Well, I guess that's completely up to the imagination of the developers. I was just thinking aloud, if they can think of very interesting and rare weapons like the F2000, it should be easy to think of rare and odd stealth weapons too.

- Silenced Desert Eagle
- Collapsible rifles
- Silenced revolvers
- Grappling hooks
- Distractors (other than keeping a bag of change)

I'd like to see any weapon that can be silenced be able to have the silencer option in the level, Meaning it can be taken off or added at any point in the level.

Me too, haha. I'm not the only one that found it funny that 47 carried up to 6 Silverballers in a level rather than screwing the silencer on and off.

I was not trying to be rude or anything, i just really had no idea at the time of what could they add haha. Your suggestions were good, but let's see. I think at least in Absolution they won't add anything.

Since 47 is on the run, there should be a black market for him to upgrade any weapon he gets and buy new ones, at least i hope they have that. Costumizing the weapons was one of the additions to the series that i enjoyed the most, unfortunately you get a ton of them that you can't change anything.

Not to worry, I wasn't referring to you. I was just making a general reminder :)

You posed some good questions, defintely something to ponder

Precisely this. You had a few weapons that were officially yours and upgradeable, as Raul04 mentioned. However, there were several weapons acquired over the course of the game that were useless unless a special scenario existed.

Agreed.

I'd personally like to see some more weapons that are hand-made. Like in prisons where they get creative. I wouldn't mind combining a couple of items to make a shank of some sort. Even if it's a one-time use, I think it could be cool.

That sounds awesome. Doesn't it already exist though? With the improvised weapons?

A weapon crafting system as a branch-off of the upgrade system would be cool. Nothing as complex as Dead Rising 2, however.

Isn't it normal and logical there are more non stealth weapons in the game? You expect cops and guards using silencers? lol

I think the biggest reason had to be because there was lack of concealable ways to hide weapons like Shotguns.

Great thread man. What i think is that lets say you pick up a pistol from a guard. After the mission you should be able to buy a suppressor for it/ All other upgrades. Im sure we will have more than the 5 custom weapons from BM. We already have the KAZO TRG from the sniper challenge and it has the silencer and mag well and extended mags. And all the Agency Weapon DLC with 3 weapons and i think we will be able to remove attachments from them.

side note: am I the only one that like to keep my pistol simple?
it just had a suppressor, sup sonic rounds , laser, and set to a single pistol....

didnt like the scope or turning my pistol full auto..... larger mags were ok but i was not planning for a shootout
..................
on this thread, i think 47 should get his own knife, like he has his own pistol why not his own knife?
like Leon said knife is for pros

maybe a pistol that shoots sleeping darts?
