Tbh, growing up my parents would only let me listen to Tom Jones, Elvis, Frankie Valli, Neil Diamond, Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow, Billy Joel, Whitney Houston, Donna Summer, and 70’s Disco. I was 17 the first time I listened to a modern song.
I have so many questions about this

List them all in one post and I’ll answer them honestly.
What was their reason for doing that? How did they enforce it, did they outright monitor your internet/listening activity to ensure it didn’t happen? What would have happened if you rebelled and listened to a “modern” song?
When I was 14, I was discovering music and there was no way in hell my parents were gonna stop me from listening to heavy metal (not that they would have tried to but still)
My parents hate modern music. They only played cd’s from those artists in the car and only let me listen to public radio during Christmastime. I never tried rebelling tbh so I don’t know how they would react.
now that I’ve given an example: why does it matter? people do drugs and have sex in real life

My parents are boomers and even though I’m a millennial I was raised the same way they were and taught to have the same opinions that most boomers have about anything modern.

Oh boy, hearing that song gives me chills. I never managed to beat Red in my copy of SS (pretty sure my save file has eternally been left at the top of the mountain). His dang tank of a Charizard is what always got me.
If ever I decide to revisit it one day in the heat of nostalgia, hopefully I can grind enough to beat him.
