ALBUM OF THE CENTURY

REFRACT

Damn, that’s a name I haven’t heard in a looong time! They did a mash up song with Nirvana years ago.

I’m gonna have to check this out tonight :+1:

I’m probably overhyping it a little, but it is an absolute work of genius. Even more entertaining and confusing when you try to read up on the band a little bit and just end up going down a rabbit hole of hilarity

Yeah, but thats part of the appeal, making good music is one thing, but if they’re also fucking around with reporters and creating these over the top personas, I’m all for that too.

I did sound for them once and I couldn’t even tell you who is and isn’t in the band! It’s a trip.

that split is ace. love a bit of lizard.

Spent this evening watching Roadburn Redux - The online component of the legendary Roadburn festival which has sadly been cancelled for 2 years in a row now due to Covid.

I’d strongly recommend going through some of these if you’re a lover of music because fucking hell, there’s some incredible performances here. The Ocean’s full playthrough of Phanerozoic II is monumental, and the GOLD performance livestreamed from an empty main 013 hall in Tilburg was suitably haunting.

The videos only stay up until Monday or Tuesday so get watching.

This shuffled on playlist earlier while I was driving… I definitely had a jam out session:

Fun Fact: “PC load letter” actually means the printer needs more paper.

Yeah its fucking weird. It’s well and truly its own thing if nothing else. I took to it instantly but i reckon it’ll be a grower for most people.

Yeah, I liked it too… you guys know my taste, so I’m not gonna lie and say it’s my usual cup of tea: (Sex Pistols and NY Dolls is about as punk as I get lol)

It’s one of those audio equivalents of a Jackson Pollock action painting, so much going on you need to let it wash over you to fully take it all in. I just posted Royal Blood who are a 2-piece that sound like 4, these 8 sound more like 80. A splatter painted wall of noise!

Only a couple of listens, but ‘An Iteration’ stood out the most, probably the most “conventionally” structured song, but I also really liked ‘The Music Becomes a Skull’ which is all over the place (in a good way)

Will definitely be replaying.

I also love their write up on Spotify… “The Armed is a punk band from Detroit, MI.”
That’s all you need to know

Yeah, even for a hardened noisemonger like me, there’s so much going on that it is frankly impossible to take in with a single listen. It’s got the unfocused, smasmodic nature of something like Melt Banana but with a real pop sensibility running through the whole thing, which is always present albeit sometimes buried amidst the noise. Masunaga Vapors sounds like absolute carnage at first, but with each listen you hear how the melody, the structure and the various layers bring everything together. Exactly the same can be said for Faith in Medication - Those are two of my favourites. The title track is by far the most “Normal” thing on the album, apart from maybe Bad Selection.

Well done for giving it a shot, it’s not the easiest of listens!!
