Literally nobody else on the planet sounds like this when they sing. Bjork’s melodies, timbre and personality are so completely unique to her. The only singer who does anything remotely similar is Chino from Deftones. He picks similar melodies at unusual intervals but he has his own identity too.

that’s the worst thing about bjork, imo. her melodies almost never fit the music (which is usually very well made) and feel like an afterthought. not a fan of her lyrics as well. maybe something like joanna newsom’s style would have worked better over her songs

Gonna have to disagree - Bjork is a musical genius as far as I’m concerned. Her melodies are extremely infectious despite being very abstract and unconventional.

Just because Scientology got Tom Cruise doesn’t mean they have to get you too.

can you just… just stop it already? literally one of my all-time favourite albums/artists.

i think isobel from post has a little bird call throughout it. i didn’t know this until i moved to my new house and heard it right outside my window; i just thought it was a cool little melody. freaked me right out :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Yeah I love Bjork so much, especially Homogenic. That’s the first album of hers that I really got into. Absolutely rinsed it.

One of my favourite gigs was seeing her at the Hollywood Palladium which is about the size of a school gym. The stage was in the middle of the room which made it feel even more intimate. She had an 18 piece Icelandic choir and a few multi-instrumentalists (including a musical tesla coil) and it was mostly songs from Biophilia, but a few others (She did Joga and Pagan Poetry which are 2 of my absolute favourites). Oh, and about half of the songs had introductory narration by David Attenborough. Fucking mental gig

holy hell. that sounds amazing. love the concept behind biophillia.

i’ve seen her a few times (even a dj set :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:) and she’s never less than incredible. this one time at bjork camp, she opened the gig with an absolutely rollicking version of army of me, just huge bass blasts right into my chest. the whole place exploded.

joga is :ok_hand:t4:. i love the way each album from homogenic onwards seems obsessed with exploring a particular family of instruments or a compositional style. she’s mad gifted.

Damn, I would have loved that. The setlist from the Palladium gig was very cerebral, but she did end with Declare Independence and that ripped. But Army of Me live must be intense with that bass. That’s the only time I saw her perform. Here’s what she played according to the interwebs (Sounds about right)

Setlist
  1. Óskasteinar
  2. Thunderbolt
  3. Moon
  4. Crystalline
  5. Hollow
  6. Dark Matter
  7. Hidden Place
  8. Mouth’s Cradle
  9. Joga
  10. Virus
  11. Generous Palmstroke
  12. Where Is the Line ?
  13. Pagan Poetry
  14. Mutual Core
  15. Cosmogony
  16. Solstice
    Rappel
  17. Possibly Maybe
  18. Náttúra
  19. Declare Independence

I’ve been on a big Bjork kick again this last week. I was listening to Medulla last night and just blown away to think that album ONLY has vocals on it.

that’s a nifty set.

declare independence is ace. that gig i mentioned was on the volta tour, so i got to hear that too and saw much flag waving from the brass section. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

yeah, medulla is the nuts. i think mike patton is on a few tracks.

…and now i have declare independence stuck in my head.

Don’t let them do that to you

What a voice she have! The band was up all night, it’s quite easy to see they had been partying hard (Grace Slick also told this in a interview.), started the concert early in the morning, but still it couldn’t be much better than this, I have seen this video many times, I only wish the song was longer .

2 years earlier, this came out:

For some reason, I like the Woodstock version better.

When I see a new album available at the teller machine, I’ll buy it. This one, however, will always be played in my house.

Jefferson Airplane was pretty good. I happen to like it better than after it’s 1st mutation into Jefferson Starship, but after 2nd mutation was when they really rocked! Starship!!!
