Yeah, I wasn’t a fan of the idea of a two million dollar album either, but I respect the move. Wish he hadn’t done it but I respect it. But then I heard something about a 88 year waiting period before the public even gets to hear it. :expressionless: What really sucks though is that it was sold to this asshole who ultimately doesn’t give a fuck about it. He just bought it because of the price tag. That album is completely wasted on him.

But fuck all that; we got new Wu album, which I just picked up today, to help us forget about that bullshit. So to me, Once Upon A Time In Shaolin doesn’t exist.

You listened to it yet? How is it?

Just the first six tracks but so far, it’s pretty good! I’ll be hearing more tonight after work.

I love it when a Samuel Taylor Coleridge question comes up on “The Chase”

@KrugerSchmidts A Perfect Circle have a new single

I’ve given it a whole bunch of spins, and it is definitely a grower. On first listen I was massively underwhelmed, finding it to be meandering and directionless. By the fifth listen, something clicked - and I really started to appreciate what they were doing. It’s a little more fragmented from a structural perspective, and there’s less of a solid groove since Josh Freese is no longer involved with the band, but there’s a lot of depth there. Lots of unusual textures, layers, and profound melodies. It’s a rewarding song if you have the patience to indulge it.

A Perfect Circle have always been a band that scratched my “instant gratification” itch whilst still being smart in their songwriting, so it’s weird to hear something from them that doesn’t do that. It’s different, but I can dig it.

Lyrics:

Behold a new Christ
Behold the same old horde
Gather at the (altar)ing [ALTERING]
New beginning, new word
And the word was death
And the word was without light
The new beatitude:
“Good luck, you’re on your own”

Blessed are the fornicates
May we bend down to be their whores
Blessed are the rich
May we labour, deliver them more
Blessed are the envious
Bless the slothful, the wrathful, the vain
Blessed are the gluttonous
May they feast us to famine and war

What of the pious, the pure of heart, the peaceful?
What of the meek, the mourning, and the merciful?
All doomed
All doomed

Behold a new Christ
Behold the same old horde
Gather at the (altar)ing [ALTERING]
New beginning, new word
And the word was death
And the word was without light
The new beatitude:
“Good luck…”

What of the pious, the pure of heart, the peaceful?
What of the meek, the mourning, and the merciful?
What of the righteous?
What of the charitable?
What of the truthful, the dutiful, the decent?

Doomed are the poor
Doomed are the peaceful
Doomed are the meek
Doomed are the merciful
For the word is now death
And the word is now without light
The new beatitude:
“Fuck the doomed, you’re on your own”

Meth still lays down some dope rhymes in that song and the album. I’m glad RZA decided to take a step back and let Mathematics control the production of the album. It feels like a return to fold. Now I still like RZA as a producer but sometimes he experiments a little too much with the music IMO. He still drops some razor sharp verses though.
