Unless Strandberg does the interview if you never encounter the camera guy or the reporters. In such a case, the interview happens offscreen, out of 47’s view or knowledge, and only registers as something 47 must do himself in order to have it happen if he actually encounters any of the crew.
I also didn’t interpret the Casket as Canon for that kill
Grey and Janus’ stories are heavily intertwined. Janus helped create Grey and 47. Grey and 47 are directly responsible for Janus’ death, and Providence is directly responsible for Grey’s death. Janus was the first Constant for Providence, and Grey was killed on orders from the new Constant. 47 also attempted to save Grey and “failed.”
Interpreting the scene in a more figurative sense:
the imagery of Grey lying in Janus’ casket not only connects him and Janus (both in life and death), it could also show that 47 harbors some feelings of guilt or responsibility for Grey’s passing.
That’s what I got from it, anyhow
Well, Between 47 entering the level and exiting the level, it never occurs. And to exit the level, Strandberg must be dead.
I certainly accept the possibility that IOI are suggesting the interview happens with or without 47’s intervention.
However… not only is that completely antithetical with the Story Mission, but the mere precedence itself generates far more problems than solutions (across the entire game).
Otherwise, you could say “Lucas Grey actually killed Viktor Novikov after their meeting and 47 was never even in Paris, because the gameplay isn’t relevant to the story.”
I am going to assume that the ‘Possible Canon Events’ do not deviate so heavily from the story experienced within the game.
The stand-in camera guy says to his friend that he never planned to actually do the interview. He just took the money they offered upfront and ran.
Unless they find a stand-in for the stand-in (who isn’t 47), they’re out of luck.
I don’t think they have too much time before Strandberg decides to leg it to follow his evacuation plan (not knowing that Zeydan will have him killed). I can’t imagine him waiting for hours while the crowd gets angrier and angrier. He is a coward, after all.
@Dribbleondo
Doing a deeper dive into the Dialogue subtitles, I could not find any reference to Novikov beyond the ones we already know.
I guess I just incorrectly remembered a line about him being crushed
Tiny correction: he wasn’t. They were ordered to take him alive and the man offed himself.
Fair enough. Thank you for the research.
