Cyberpunk 2077

So since Polish developers CD Project Red is almost done with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (still one last expansion is left for 2016) and starts focusing it’s team on their new game called Cyberpunk 2077 - it is time for it to have it’s own thread.

Official videos from CDPR:

Cyberpunk 2077 - Mike Pondsmith about Cyberpunk World (2013-01-17)

About the game from Wiki:

Cyberpunk 2077 is a role-playing video game announced in 2012, based on the Cyberpunk series of tabletop role-playing games. The game is being produced by CD Projekt RED, developers of the video game The Witcher. Cyberpunk 2077 will feature a dystopian futuristic world in which ultra-modern technology co-exists with a degenerated human society.

The game aims to be mature and ambitious, with character customization being strongly tied to the plot.[5] It will have a non-linear story with different character classes. It will have both first-person and third-person perspectives.

CD Projekt Red: ‘Cyberpunk 2077 is far, far bigger than The Witcher 3’ (2015-10-06)

“Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before,” visual effects artist Jose Teixeira told MCV. “Far, far bigger.

“We’re really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.”

Teixeira continued by saying that The Witcher 3’s scope had helped the studio to refine its open-world formula for Cyberpunk 2077.

"The Witcher helped Cyberpunk quite a bit, because the game got so big and so complex that it really taught us,” he explained. “We really didn’t know what was going to happen.

“If anything, working on The Witcher 3 was a really good and often brutal learning experience. Cyberpunk is going to benefit greatly from it. I can almost guarantee it.

"I have a lot of things that I want to change and do better the next time around, and I can guarantee that almost everyone in that studio has something that they go ‘I did this this time, next time I can do it differently, I can do it better’.”

I think it’ll be at least 3-4 years before this comes out. The concept looks really impressive though, and a drastic change of tone and atmosphere compared to the Witcher.

2017 Release date, or Something like that.

Maciej who worked on the concept art, is an Awesome Concept Artist.
Currently following/working his Learn Squared stuff, he teaches really good workflow and his kit-bashing is the best.

Some Art station links of Maciej’s work on Cyberpunk.

The whole vibe it’s going for reminds me of Ghost in the Shell, an awesome Anime.

It gives me the vibe of Blade Runned (1982). Loving it!

For those that aren’t familiar with cyberpunk, here is a great list of books for you to get acquainted with the genre:

I like the aesthetic of this game so much. For some reason it has a very sci-fi noir look. I haven’t played any of the Witcher games (hardcore RPGs you sink hours and hours into aren’t my thing) but I much prefer sci-fi to fantasy so I will probably give this a go. Hopefully by its release I’ll have a PC capable of playing modern games, lol.

So excited for this. Graphics like Witcher, an RPG like Witcher, plus a character creator? Sounds too good to be true. Just hoping they’ll learn something from Bethesda and add more NPCs that you can actually interact with.

I wonder if they’ll carry over the lousy, unresponsive controls from The Witcher 3 as well.

Hearing this for the first time. Lousy controls? Had no such problems in my 400+ hrs playtime. The only thing that was annoying tho was sometimes Roach acting dumb while riding, but they patched that.

CDPR will have a big challenge here because new Deus Ex are shaping like best Cyberpunk RPG ever made

Deus Ex is a linear / into sections divided game. It’s not even close to what Cyberpunk 2077 is aiming to be. ‘Cyberpunk 2077 is far, far bigger than The Witcher 3’

But I agree that from the looks it looks really familiar to Deus Ex universe. Im liking it.

More details coming through slowly

“Life after The Witcher exists. We’ve been working on Cyberpunk 2077 for a long time. It’s a completely different reality, set in the future, with corporations and morally grey world. Just to be clear: We already have the release date for Cyberpunk 2077 planned, but we won’t announce it until we are ready to start the marketing campaign. At the moment we’re concentrating on The Witcher and don’t want to distract users from that product, which we are still monetizing.”

"The Witcher 3 Dev Wants Cyberpunk 2077 to Launch in Late 2016, Report Says
CD Projekt Red may want its next game out earlier than initially planned."

Maybe we won’t have to wait till 2020 after all  But to be honest - it’s all just rumors. CDPR has not confirmed anything. They said they will share first major new in 2017 at earliest. So I don’t really trust these websites.

We need news on this freaking game already. They haven’t even updated their Facebook page in over two years.

Cyberpunk 2077 Is More Ambitious Than Witcher “On Every Single Front”

Plus, CD Projekt Red says it is following the Rockstar Games model.

CD Projekt Red has yet again spoken up to talk about the “ambitious” nature of its upcoming RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. In an interview with, CEO Marcin Iwinski says the massive success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (it’s shipped around 10 million copies) gives the developer more resources and opportunity to go even bigger with Cyberpunk 2077.

Also in the interview, Iwinski talked about how CD Projekt Red is modeling itself after Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption developer Rockstar Games. That studio’s games are often highly regarded, even if it takes a long time for them to come out. CD Projekt Red sees itself on a similar patch.

“For us, it’s never about money,” Iwinski said. "Yes, we deliver results, but we always explain to our investors that we have a long-term perspective. They shouldn’t expect us to annualise, or suddenly start releasing games just because there’s a business opportunity. Fundamentally, The Witcher 3 has proven that… and right now, we have a lot of credit, so we should use that and take the time to make Cyberpunk something really meaningful for the whole industry. It has to reach the next quality bar, and I’m not talking just for us, but for the market."

“If we look at our role models, what Rockstar is doing is amazing. It’s not like, ‘We have to ship a game or we may not hit our financial goals.’ It’s, ‘Here’s GTA V, and by the way, it’s the best game ever made.’ We’re all looking forward to Red Dead Redemption 2, because you know they’ll show something and you’ll be like, ‘Oh my god.’”

Absolutely loved the trailer for this when it was first announced! Honestly I’m glad they’re taking their time, so many releases have been botched by deadlines and forced launches, it’s great to see them taking a different approach.

Always had an interest since Altered Carbon / Neuromancer which I highly recommend; there’s a netflix adaptation of Altered Carbon on the way too, quietly hoping it’s as badass as the novel.

Read somewhere they’re doing a bit of a engine upgrade whilst also making assets for the game.

Should be interesting to see the results.

CD Projekt RED Almost Doubling In Size For Cyberpunk 2077 Development

Oh God yes! CD Projekt RED will likely do a great job on this.
