I realised I firmly fell into that territory the other week when I booted up the game and saw that I had missed an ET (and another one or two since then I think) and wasn´t even a bit bothered by it. With them having been constantly rotated and lacking new rewards over the past two years, I just lack incentive to play the game. Freelancer is great of course, and I only got to lvl. 50, but that was over a year ago and I basically haven´t played it since as it also hasn´t received any updates that would make me jump into WoA again over other games… (also, the end-mode grind that everyone here described kinda killed the excitement for me) I´ve been wanting to replay the full campaign again at least, but that´s where all the persistent bugs/glitches and “downgrades” which have been around since 2021 (or even 2018) come in…
This is one of the reasons I much preferred the monthly roadmaps when they were still a thing. Even if there wasn´t that much stuff in one, the updates were still on a regular basis and the excitement/expectation frequent enough, not to mention you always knew that you were definitely gonna get an update of some sorts at the beginning of each month. Seasonal roadmaps are plain awful, especially with how loose the definition of each season is on IO´s side and the related/resulting lack of info…
I´m really happy that the game is still alive and getting some kind of support, but there really should be more updates/patches and info, especially given the hints we got at the start of the year about all the exciting stuff we were supposed to expect for Y4
I think they relaunch them for the new players, not for the old. It would be nice if they relaunched old ones, not a “Year 4” editions, so people who have beaten them will have it already completed. The only benefit is them giving you another chance. I think IOI haven’t thought so far, but it would make a much better system if it was like this: you try on ET assassination, if you kill them it’s completed, if you fail it’s failed UNTIL relaunch, not forever. It even makes sense lore-wise: like, you’ve missed an opportunity to hit last time and the target has laid low, but this time they resurfaced and you can try again. I don’t know why they haven’t implemented it in Hitman 3/WOA, it makes so much sense. In 2 they relaunched old ETs as far as I remember, maybe even at the starts of 3. I remember having Sapienza twins as failed on relaunch, because I killed both of them with a bike explosion
P.S. The only target that should have multiple editions is Undying, since he has an eyepatch after the first canonical kill attempt with a pen
In the last years, I lost the hype for Hitman, because truely new contents are very rare and often are only old ETs, featured contracts that I don’t play anymore. But I have to admit that now I’m curious about this new ET
I gotta say, I’m kinda disappointed with Sgail choice. I don’t like that map, it already has two ETs, and there are maps out there with 0 ETs still. Honestly half the hype is gone for me
