Edited to reflect it.
Don’t want to announce bugged things when it’s not.
Even more when it’s a miss on my part in reality.
And heading to the room. It has to be related to the boat though.
It’s in instinct, but not destructible for a note. Maybe a model of a “real” one, immatriculation numbers? I see no sense to it. Compels me though.
I have to say: with the safe code, and a placed antidote, the mission becomes much more flexible and chill.
(even more if you have a key hacker or EMP device)
I think this mission will be a great “virtual tourism” place in the future.
How telling of me that my first try was “must destroy toy model boat for goodies/intel inside”, followed by “maybe more explosives will do the trick”.
And then “must be bugged”.
Worst is: when I tried random codes, 1337 was one of them.
Me this last hour:
(btw: If you like Benoit Blanc movies, Poker Face is a great show by the same creator. But asking what if new Columbo instead of what if new Agatha Christie)
don’t have the chance to try this exciting new ET, do they add any new camera recorder? or still that one camera recorder on the second floor security room?
After a longer break, I returned to the game, intrigued by the new Elusive Target. It’s a rather unusual one - and right away, a sarcastic thought comes to mind: IOI really doesn’t seem to have much luck choosing celebrities who stay away from controversial topics, so this time they made sure the new character wouldn’t cause them any trouble
But jokes aside. I have to admit, I have mixed feelings so far. Of course, I haven’t completed the mission yet - I failed it because I decided to take my time and observe the surroundings. At one point, Bruce Lee got taken out of the fight and… mission failed! Luckily, it was just in Arcade mode, but I can imagine some players might get seriously frustrated. Especially those, like me, who like to take their time at the beginning just walking around, observing, and listening to dialogues. Oh well - there’s always tomorrow
I do like that they’re reusing old locations for ETs and giving them a fresh twist. I also like the new character models, and the fact that Lee has this really cool American-Chinese accent that reminds me of the Codename 47 days.
What stood out to me on the less positive side is that, compared to other contracts, this one starts off a bit chaotically. One of the guests at the bar uses old dialogue from one of the Cross gang members, and the guards ask for an invitation - but when I entered disguised as a guest, no one actually asked me for it.
When entering the room, Diana immediately identifies the targets, saying who’s who, but I found it hard to figure out which participant was which. First impression: a bit chaotic. But we’ll see how it goes tomorrow
I don’t also like the new unlocks, they are quite bland.
The concept is cute, but tenuous. The execution I feel less charitable about.
It’s been drilled into everyone that across HITMAN, objects highlighted in instinct are interactible in some way which is why everyone (myself included) immediately attempted to shoot the boat.
How about next time we go with a fake pair of tits that also highlight in instinct and I’m sure we’ll all immediately figure out the code is 8008
This guys fits right in though. He was a known party animal. Found dead of a heart attack in his mistresses apartment and somehow the autopsy neglected to check his system for blow. IIRC at first they lied about where they found him too bc they didn’t want his wife to know he was with his mistress.
This mission is like a specifically designed example of why “single try / no saving” simply DOES NOT WORK for this type of game. A mission that can be failed in numerous ways without you interacting must not be a limited mission. Also, the mission can take up to 30+ minutes including a lot of waiting, so not being able to save makes it even worse.
I actually didn’t struggle with that bit at all. I tried throwing something at it, then shooting it. When it didn’t work, I thought “Ah, it must just be highlighted to draw attention” and started looking at the boat itself for clues, then nearby when there was nothing immediately visible.
It didn’t even register to me it could be a hint. When it wouldn’t break I thought it was just there to throw us off and it reminded me of the safe that can’t be opened in another version of that level.
And while it sailed over my head, I’m glad they tried something a bit different than a poster with a year on it
This is way too unforgiving on an initial playthrough. Had to restart multiple times before I found the dropped antidote, and then Lee gets fucking re-poisoned by another of the targets.
I also ran into a bug where I was disguised as the announcer and when Lee won the tournament he just stood still and the main target left. Lee was left standing still for what I assume is eternity. That’s after 35 minutes of gameplay. Not good.
But as usual I enjoy these elusives, as they redo enough of the map for it to be interesting.
There is so much new content to experience. So many different characters, stuff to see - but no, this mission is clearly designed not to enjoy them. Because you could fail at any moment. First time I played, I was looking around, listening to people - and suddenly it said “Lee is poisoned!”, and I was like FUCK RESTART and then the mission was over for me. What if he gets stabbed or shot? What if there is a time limit? What else could make the mission fail?
Yes, now I know that failure can be prevented quite easily, but just as when I got poisoned in The Banker mission, you don’t know that when playing for the first time! So I did the exact same thing I did back then, 3 seconds before the poison timer was over:
I quit the game and looked up a walkthrough only to follow it precisely.
This is what those missions have become: There is no game anymore, there is only FOMO that leads to cheating and removes the gameplay.
iO clearly states: “Do not play our game. Fuck you. Stop playing around, stop enjoying the atmosphere. You might fail any second now.”
And I just don’t get it.
Simple solution: Never ever ever do Elusive Targets ever again. Remove time limits on Arcade. Enable free saving in all missions. Done, game instantly gets so much better.
(Yeah sure, there is the arcade, but 12 hours for every mistake? There are people having to work, so one or two tries once a week is still ridiculous.)
A few intels about the tournament order tempering/Cutmore opportunity:
Xiao beats Zen
Xiao beats Chau
Zen beats Chau
they poison Lee only if they are facing him in a match
if you are disguised as Cutmore and facing Lee, 47 automatically forfeits.
Kinda makes me wish there were a placed Concord Union Guard disguise hidden away somewhere.
Would have allowed to complete the mission with no knock-out and “clean hands” no kill.
By organising the tournament to have Lee only facing one, being poisoned once, and finding a way to the safe.
Would have made a fun “end-game” “mastery of the level” possibility.
After a few hours on it. Very cool mission.
Lots of variations, small details, and notes you can take control of.
As long as you are on the same wavelengths, and tempo as the mission. And make it go to yours.
Unfortunately it doesn’t dialogue well with the player in the first runs.
An issue since it’s an Elusive Target.
