I think he knew it wouldn’t kill him. He wanted the info on where 47 came from. He already had his little torture room ready in the basement for any special arrivals ![]()
I didn’t soft lock it, but I spoke to Carlton Smith, then never actually completed his ask so I never got his invite. The game progressed and only Rangan and Bai played in the game. Smith just hung out upstairs. You can’t see him here but he’s leaning on the furniture behind the camera where he usually waits for the game to begin.
I’ve wanted a new objects pass for the old maps for a while now. I would have hoped for this with the freelancer variants at least but nope.
There is a PC mod that adds Car Batteries to old maps, but that’s if for now.
Seems like that’s just how it goes. I went up to the room without doing anything and waited the 10 minutes, and the game started in exactly the same way, with Smith just watching. I guess Smith only plays when 47 takes one of the others’ invitations?
Also, oddly, at the end Le Chiffre said “Mr. Rieper… I hope we never meet again” despite that they never met in the first place, 47 only watched the game.
That’s as far back in time as Blood Money was when Paris was released…
That happened in my game as well. Perhaps LeChiffre talking to Smith results in him not being allowed to play? Does he not do that if he talks to you when you play? Odd that he pegs Smith as an imposter and then either lets him play or does not, but when he pegs 47 as an imposter he decides to poison and torture him!
Stop stop I can’t bear it.
Lol.
Sorry if it’s been asked/answered/mentioned already, but has anyone tried to throw something at the poisoned wine glass, or maybe shoot it without getting spotted in order to break it? And if so… I’m not sure how it would work, but I’m mainly wondering if 47 still gets poisoned if you still have an interact prompt at that small table.
Lethal poison is a lot harder to justify in a lot of the level contexts. Emetics are usually rat poison…but lethal poison? That’s usually only seen as medicinal pills. Hokkaido only has Sedative and Emetic (unless you count the Fugu fish, but that can’t be used anywhere else but the sushi bar if memory serves). I’m not against propane tanks being on the level, they just need to hide them better in the 2016 levels (which in fairness, from 2 onward, they basically did do that).
As for car batteries…that’s a tricky one. When I was redoing Colorado, I reasoned that having one battery was enough due to the water puddles, and adding any more was simply not needed and could cause issues. I am with you though, most levels should have them. Plus, we have arguably better devices than a car battery now that you can bring in.
Would have been cool for there to be an arms dealer or “supplier” on the map (like in Freelancer, I mean you guys already created and coded this idea). They would have for sale lethal poison, electrocution gadgets, flash phone, sniper rifle, etc. You could spend casino chips on such items. Okay, the prices would be outrageous (5 million for lethal poison!) but it would create another level of gameplay and make the whole casino chips aspect meaningful.
I think that kind of mechanic should probably stay in Freelancer. I don’t think that fits the level at all.
Botox (Portman room and hospital physical therapy room (thanks @Tetrafish_21) )serves as the map lethal poison vials.
If I remember locations correctly, funnily enough for its theme, Sapienza is the only map without a lethal poison vial. And it seems to be a deliberate design decision.
(And ICA Facility / Carpathian Mountains)
Ah Portman, the room I never go in. Good to know for next time.
What about the one by the 2 guys doing push-ups?
Unless that’s for Patient Zero…![]()
Oh wait! The Fugu fish in the kitchen freezer too. ![]()
Yes, see here, here, and here. The summary is that throwing seems to not work to break it, but other methods do and result in 47 drinking from an invisible wine glass.
Just tried it, it seems it can be used like any other lethal poison. At least the stew pot in the kitchen and a wine glass on the bar allowed it.
If you’re quick to get to the VIP Poker room then Le Chiffre will materialise a glass out of thin air to drink before the bar staff has brought it to his table
I’ve played it, was alright.
My guess is that that’s just how it’s scripted for some reason. Maybe Smith didn’t originally attend the game at all (too worried about Winding spotting him?), and when they allowed him upstairs they only reworked the story mission games and not the fallback or dealer games?
I tried a few other variations to try to get Smith to play in the fallback game:
- KO Winding without talking to Smith. Same result.
- Wait downstairs until the game starts, so Smith doesn’t get a chance to talk to Le Chiffre. Seems the conversations still play out before the game even with 47 not nearby. Same result.
- KO Bai without getting her invitation, but don’t get the dealer outfit. Game didn’t start, gave up.
Does who not do what?
You’ve done it again, IO. Thank you. I’ve already played this mission twice the amount of time as The Undying. Sorry Mads. Smith stole the show! It truly struck me that, after all those times I killed him in Ambrose Island, he’d still give me the suit off his back.
I’ve been trying to maximize winnings. The highest take so far was 303,400,000.
10,000,000 from Cage Croupier
Played four poker tables as aggressively as possible
Toyed with a roulette theory for another few hundred thousand
Folded the first chance I got with Le Chiffre
Had everyone covered by over 5,000,000 in the final hand
5,000,000 from Cage Safe
Only tested the theory once before getting locked out, but as far as I can tell, the colors of roulette spin stay consistent each restart. First one was black on the Smith side table and the first five stay the same colors on the cage side table. Each bet was max 50,000 so it got grindy pretty fast.
Next playthrough, everyone on the floor is getting slaughtered. Some of those pockets are looking heavy.
