Elusive Target #37: EMINƎM vs. SLIM SHADY (Year 6: 27 July - 23 August 2026)

I don’t know who Slim Shady even is (and I don’t really care) other than the name is in a song, but I assume it’s just some alter-ego that the guy used for an album.

I don’t think you could listen to something like Guilty Conscience, Low Down Dirty, 97 Bonnie & Clyde, Stan, The Way I Am, Deja Vu, Kim, Remember Me, Kill You, Bad Guy, Evil Twin, My Darling or Underground and think “this guy’s just lazy”. The entire thing about Eminem is he’s a guy who has three personas that he raps with on each album:

Marshall Mathers, essentially himself

the egotistical and arrogant Eminem

the crazed lunatic Slim Shady

Each of these personas interact with eachother and refer to eachother. The lore of the albums is how these personas struggle with eachother and how he can write from these multiple perspectives on the same situation. It’s a very common thing in rap, MF DOOM had tons of personas he would use on his albums that all hated eachother and the origin of Shady came from Eminem being part of a rap group called D12 whose whole thing was there was only six of them but they all had an alternate persona

If you want a guy who’s just lazy shock humor Bizarre is on some of Em’s albums and THAT guy’s the Tom Myers of rap

@Heisenberg @Fleur
I agree, that the choice of celebrity is mostly determined by how many new players they might bring into WoA. Still, I don’t see it as an ‘us vs. them’ as in existing players vs. new players. Both ‘sides’ can be happy at the same time. But, as mentioned above, I also don’t care much about those celebrities in the first place. What I’m interested in are the new missions, that we get to play.

@Heisenberg
Furthermore, I also agree with you, that it’s very disappointing, that longstanding bugs don’t get fixed. I don’t think IOI owes us new content, even though I am very happy if we get it. However, I do think they owe us making already existing content work properly. It’s ridiculous, that game-breaking bugs like “Arrange a Meeting” not working have existed for years.

I fully agree with this. For me, it’s not even about whether I >like< a celebrity, but more that having a celebrity doesn’t add much in terms of the enjoyment I have playing the mission.

@Fleur
I see where you’re coming from and I don’t doubt, that IOI use celebrities for marketing purposes. One thing I want to add: Be mindful, that HMF is a bubble. We definitely have some dedicated fans here, who have played the games for a very long time. But we’re in no way representative of Hitman players in general. Also, there are probably other hardcore fans, who are not here. For example, I have played every Grand Theft Auto game out there and I have close to 1000 hours in GTA V, but I have never been part of any fan forum for GTA.

Like I said: I don’t know that (well I do now I guess) so that is invalid.

Also, that is an opinion, not one I agree with.
So yes, I would say rapping with the F slur is not good writing, it is lazy or edgy.

I hope you have a good rest of your day Grim47.

Bully for you. I don’t like it when companies strong-arm me into buying DLC, be it 99p, £3.99 or £39.99. It’s scummy and underhanded, no matter the cost. I haven’t bought the Bruce Lee DLC, and I’m not going to buy this one either because it goes against my own beliefs of what I expect the company to act like. Or to put it another way:

And IO apparently don’t have any these days.

That would be fine, if these missions didn’t constantly make allusions to their actors. One could argue that’s their main draw for most players. Hard to anonymise that sort of thing.

You can have principles while still being unhappy with their business decisions; hell, by seeing bad things happen, that’s how you can make your own principles and standards of what’s good and bad! You don’t have to carry a soapbox to be angry!

IO never ceases to dissapoint. An Elusive DLC again? And what’s worse is that this one will be available for less time than the previous one. Go fuck yourself, now I’m convinced that making the Lee DLC time limited was IO’s fault and not Lee’s state. You require skill to be able to kill the hype so quickly.

What makes you think so?

The Lee DLC was available for about two months.

But all previous available.
And this is different person, different mission, different situation.
Let’s not jump before the actual thing in judgements and expectations.
I personally expect the likely DLC be permanent.
Lee’s DLC in my eyes will come back with the reactivation of Lee’s mission if such will happen.
My guess it’s about the limitations which where put forward by Lee’s representatives/rights holders.
You can’t say definitely that from now on any DLC will be limited by one day time frame

Again

I think this sentence makes it very clear that the DLC will be on sale for a limited time. It’s either that or the person who wrote it sucks at their job.

Hopefully I’m miss interpreting but that doesn’t seem to be the case so far.

Sorry, I didn’t see the dates and thought you were quoting the Lee’s info.
Still, it doesn’t feel like official IOI’s announcement, because they didn’t yet even roll out the roadmap.
So I would rather wait the official info, those who wrote this text might have confused it with Lee somehow.
Shit happens as they say.
We still have some time till the 1st, so things may change in whatsoever manner till the official announcement

I don’t think I can be mad at this simply cause if IO managed to bag this opportunity and their whole thing of getting HITMAN Mainstream than this would be the one thing that will definitely solidify that.

Does this make me want to play the game? No. Bruce Lee hardly got me to do play the game and all I did was load up the target last night to get the suit. I own the DLC so im not exactly missing out.

But I want new and engaging stuff and not celebrity flavoring that has maybe 15 mins worth of content.

Celebrity ET’s are one trick pony’s and they’ve really haven’t been reaching me.

The text has come from here: Xbox Partner Preview | Eminem Takes Center Stage in Hitman World of Assassination’s Latest Elusive Target Mission - Xbox Wire

This page has been written by Yann Roskell the Senior Global Communication Manager at IO Interactive, so is unlikely to be incorrect.

A notable omission in Hitman 3’s ETs is that there isn’t any “hidden identity” ET where you have to not only find where the target is, but also identify the correct target. This was done often in Hitman 2016 (The Twin, The Black Hat, The Fugitive, The Blackmailer) and in Hitman 2’s ETs (The Politician and The Serial Killer).

Since one of Eminem’s most famous songs is “The real Slim Shady”, perhaps this one will finally be a “find the real target” type of ET for Hitman 3.

Are we thinking this is possibly a Freelance hit or an ICA sanctioned target? I don’t think we’ve had any Freelance hits really a part from The Drop have we? :thinking:

Jesus, I thought the Bruce Lee idea was as weird as it could get. This is so out of left field. I am curious what the suit for playing the mission will be since it looks like the target is just wearing overalls. Farmer 47 commence the jingling!

Hitman is already mainstream.

It is talked about in news columns, it is getting awards (even for VR!). There is not a single point in the whole of the WOA trilogy’s life where Hitman was not mainstream. You can thank SquEnix’s PR push for that. When modern audiences think of stealth games, or games with a wide-open sandbox, Hitman is number 1, possibly 2, on the former list (in no small part due to the M.I.A status of Splinter Cell and Deus Ex over the years).

Having celebrity DLC’s is a PR stunt to bring in new players, that’s it. If anything, it’s to make IOI look more like a AAA company who can get these sorts of deals and increase their own brand awareness. Which, at this point, is showboating. As you say later on in your comment, I’d rather IO focus on something else for a change, rather than make these Celebrity ET’s.

Also, far be it from me to tell you what to purchase, but if you’re going to buy these limited time DLC’s, at the very least you could go and play the content you purchased. Otherwise, it’s just buying it to say “I own it”, and in turn, supporting a very scummy business practice that IO should not be doing. It’s the worst of both worlds imo.

Perhaps a jason mask as a throwback to his old concerts

Jeez, what has happened to this franchise? They won’t make a new map, but can churn out this time-limited celebrity nonsense…

fun fact: the genre of music made by working class people talking about their violent pasts is going to be edgy

wait so a skeleton crew - half of which is working on a co-op game mode - finds it easier to make alterations to an existing map in order to sell as DLC than entire new sections of game? what a revelation. it’s almost as if that’s what they told you guys they were doing at the start of the year or something
