Not to give IOI too much credit but I bet they’ll definitely be ready for this. If they can make The Splitter’s “loadout” so restrictive and railroaded in Chongqing, they can change Hokkaido’s loadout options to hand-hold new players, especially as gaining new players is the whole point of these CelebrETs.
How did they handle it for all the other missions in Hokkaido? Do you start Snow Festival etc. with no loadout if it’s not unlocked? I always assumed it would just be for Situs Inversus.
Since episode sapienza gave me holiday hoarders and snow festival I can say yes you still start with nothing
Ugh, everyone knows we’re in over our heads.
Just food for thought a lot of other people who may not be on this forum are apparently very excited for this. Here is a sample of some of the comments to the YouTube trailer:

While some of us may not be all that excited, there is clearly a fan base out there that is very into this Celebrity Elusive Target.
So IOI’s marketing strategy is working. Not sure whether that’s what we need or not.
Dunno, but yes - it’s working for the audience they appear to intend it to be working for.
It sure is great for IOI to attract new players. And I’m very excited for this new Celebrity Elusive Target. But the ET mode isn’t probably the best thing for new players. They start with this game and if they fail they don’t have a chance to retry. That could be very frustrating. Those Celebrity Elusive Targets should be special assignments. Would make so much more sense.
I’m 99.99% sure I remember one CelebrET last year where they made it so Free Starter Pack players could play it over and over without a perma-fail. Wonder if that was a one-off or if its a regular feature of them…
I remember reading it in the blogpost and thinking it was a bit of a “fuck you” to their paying players.
I don’t read every single post here, but are people here really upset about Eminem’s inclusion? For me personally, I was mostly on the same boat as the youtube people, just like with any new mission. What absolutely kills all the hype for me is IO’s idiocy with their POS FOMO trash DLC, but I have nothing againts the mission or Eminem themselves.
Maybe that’s why the reception on youtube is so positive? Those poor naive commenters have no idea about IO’s shitty and anticonsumer business practices.
or they do and they don’t care (since that is the industry norm for large players at this point)
Quelle surprise people who don’t know why having constant celebrity elusive targets is a problem and only look at it from the surface-level would be excited for it.
This doesn’t tell me anything I didn’t already know. Most people are not going to be experts on IOI’s business model.
You;'re not wrong, that’s why people on here don’t like it, it has basically northing to do with Eminem, and everything to do with IOI’s own business decisions. Which, of course, people on Youtube aren’t necessary going to know.
I think this mission will be too weird to incorporate into Freelancer Variations. It seems so non-sensical… clones of Eminem? Floating sandwiches? Surgeons working sound recording equipment? Staff members going around with crudely painted Ss on their uniforms? What would I tell the players, you have to catch a flight to a syndicate operating inside Eminem’s mind?
I’ll try see what I can salvage but I’m guessing it will all be very interconnected and hard to untangle into something resembling a real place.
Will still happily play the ‘mission’ though, pity it’s not out already because I’m in the middle of three days off work right now.
Well, I can’t speak for others, but personally, I am not very excited about this mission but that is primarily because I don’t like the music that Eminem produces (or the genre, honestly) so I have absolutely no connection to the person. I don’t know anything about him or his alter egos. I believe I said on this forum that I’d play the mission but probably do it on mute.
When the Sean Bean Elusive Target was announced, I was genuinely excited because I really like a lot of the characters he played so I had at least some association. Jean Claude Van Dam may be a bit dated, but I know a lot of his movies. Bruce Lee I am certainly familiar with through his movies. Le Chiffre was a neat mission based on a fictional person, but I know the movie it’s from.
On the other hand, Dmitri Vargas was met by a “who?” when I heard about it. While I know who Connor McGregor is, I don’t watch fighting (I don’t even know what type of fighting he did) so the mission was somewhat underwhelming for me.
Eminem produces music that I actively avoid listening to. As far as a mission goes, maybe it’ll be fine, but I’m not invested in the target and have no interest in him as a person.
Others on this forum have expressed concern about the apparent money-grab of IOI for this, the lack of attention to fixing known and long-existing bugs in favor of producing elusive targets that no one asked for, or the general lack of communication including this announcement instead of producing an actual road map.
in general, I’d say that the answer to your question is yes. A lot of us are ranging from “upset” to “meh” to “what?” to “why?”
I would say that I’m just bored with the concept now of the CelebET, because it really just becomes about the gimmick of the celebrity connection rather than a good or fun ET, which as a concept has mostly lost its luster on its own. I mean, even the fun ones like the last three, which were admittedly fun, became ridiculously complex and time-consuming for gameplay that is time-limited and can’t be saved, and those complexities were there just to sell the association with the celebrity in question.
It’s like, we’ve reached the point where it’s predictable: the CelebET will be someone unexpected, the mission will be in a remade existing map, have some complex gimmick designed to inflate the gameplay time, it will be bugged in a way that causes hundreds of players to unfairly fail, it’ll have a $5 DLC for Arcade, and there’s a 50/50 chance the celebrity will have criminal or civil allegations thrown at them, with a 50/50 chance of that that it will be for sex offenses.
At this point, I’m basically: (yawn) that’s neat, why is my game still bugged with issues I reported years ago?
On the other hand it’s just another tool of making those persons more popular and possibly gaining more fans through such kind of appearances.
Business, and nothing personal, like they say.
For me personally was somewhat of a “who?” reaction to the first ever celebET - Gary Busey.
I still don’t know who he is and for what he’s famous for. For me it’s just a generic name.
But for millions I’m sure he’s an idol.
I just out of that millions.
Same with other celebrities.
Nothing harmful in a fact that they just expanding their fanbase
For the record, on this one, just watch either the first Lethal Weapon movie, or the second Predator movie. It’s all you need to see of him to get the idea.
I never include Gary Busey in these discussions because I never got to play that one. I didn’t know Hitman 1 existed until after Hitman 2 came out so the only way I was ever able to play that elusive target was via Peacock years after it was actually live. The whole of Hitman 1, really, just sort of feels off because I only ever played it as part of Hitman 2.
Well have I got some good news for you! For only $4.99, you can own [a license for the digital rights to the online-only] SLIM SHADY pack, allowing you to replay the Elusive Target as part of the Arcade game mode! You don’t even have to wait that long anymore to replay the mission, if you fail!
