Elusive Target Arcade

Hey @Travis_IOI, do you know if every ET will appear in more than one contract so that we can play each one with different restrictions? For example, the ETs in The Ellipses reappearing in contracts where hiding their bodies would not be a requirement, so each ET gets at least 2 chances to play that would let players explore more options?

There’s a screenshot (not sure if it’s a leak!?) That shows some of the ET’s released so far in different combos with other unreleased ones. For example The Revolutionary is in 3 combo packs. Can’t imagine all 3 of those (or any of the other ones seen) having the same restrictions.

Ah, good. That’s what I’m hoping for.

Still trying to re-100% my H1-H2 imported progress now I’ve moved to Steam H3 (re-doing Escalations and Mission Stories, which don’t carry over) before I get started on the ET Arcade in earnest, but had my first crack at ETA today and attempted The Codices (The Stowaway, The Revolutionary, The Appraiser).

The Stowaway and The Appraiser weren’t too tricky, but The Revolutionary (a tough ET in vanilla mode, let alone with complications) was much sweatier, due to the One Disguise Change and Don’t Eliminate Civilians restrictions. RNG rolled the target to be based at the wooden hut between the village bar and the town square where the band play, and I didn’t feel like I had any kind of plan that would get me Silent Assassin, so I picked off the perimeter guards with silenced pistol headshots, let their bodies be found and waited for the resulting search/confusion to die down. Then snuck up to the outside of the hut, waited until the target sat down and popped him in the head through an open window before making a beeline to the exit.

It was actually really good fun not giving a damn about my SA rating and just playing in a more ruthless, get-the-job-done kinda style so kudos to IOI for this particular batch being a nice new twist on how I’ve previously played Elusive Targets. But that said, I know that I’ve got Hide All Bodies coming up in my future, and I haven’t got the words to describe how much I’m NOT looking forward to that…

Yeah The Revolutionary is actually more fun to go in guns ablazing given that this mission involves taking out a Fascist fanatic right in the middle of Cartelland. Of course I still intend to go for Silent Assassin once this mission is released as an actual Elusive Target for obvious reasons.

That’s great to hear because we wanted Arcade to feel like a twist to how to approach ET’s. There’s very strong feedback against ‘Hide All Bodies’. The H3 Live Team is looking very closely at that.

I confirm hidden body complications for ET arcade, is a pain in the ass.

Please remove hide all bodies. That is all.

If they remove it, they’re likely going to replace it with something else so its still consistent with the other Arcade Contracts instead of just removing it. What replacement complication would people prefer to see?

I remembered someone suggesting don’t hide bodies as a replacement. Every pacification is now a risk of losing SA so you have to use map knowledge to hide it from plain view. It’s not as frustrating as hide all bodies since it still allows most kills (except for things like pushing outside the map or grape crusher).

I think there should be no cpmplications that break the Hitman loop. So:

Do’s
No innocent kills
…that’s basically it? Weird, there must be more

Don’ts
Hide all bodies
No / limited disguise change
no KOs
Do no get spotted (because of targets)

EDIT: What I mean with the last one: Even if you get spotted by your target, the mission fails. This is stupid and doesn’t even void SA, so this complication should at least remove targets from the complication

I know complicatons are annoying, but it might do some good.
I mean I just played some old et through mod, and I found that with all the new tools we get from H2&3, the ETs from H1 become way too easy. All you have to do is to locate the target. Once you know where they are, the mission is done. With propane+teaser or briefcase+emetic device every target is so easy to kill.
So complications could help to make the play more dramatic…
But it’s still annoying, so maybe we can change them into optional ones?

I’m against No disguise changes complication as kills off one of the big gameplay mechanics but I think the limited disguise changes can work, as having to think more tactically on what disguise you need can work quite well for certain levels.

Personally, I’m against all mandatory Complications in ET Arcade. To explain why:

IMO, the nature of Elusive Targets makes this unnecessary. If you’ve played every single Elusive Target in the WoA’s history, (excluding ET Arcade, mods, or owning multiple accounts and copies of the games, I’m also not sure about combo targets like The Decievers) you’ve played a select few Elusive Targets 4 times at most and that’s if you’ve bent over backwards to make sure you’ve killed Owen Wagner as many times as possible.

So, even for the most dedicated parts of the community who consistently play ETs I’m still doubtful a twist on how to approach them was a good idea at all, even excluding the really bad complications like Hide All Bodies.

But if you forced me to add more/different Complications, here’s some which I think would be better ideas than the ones currently present.

I have tried to avoid all Complications that require unpredictable instant failures as those do not fundamentally gel well with the timelock failures of ET Arcade, and I’ve tried to mix things between realistic things IOI could do now with their current tools to more ambitious ideas that go outside the realm of current Complications, including some that are powerups rather than problems, with the idea that mixing these together might be more interesting than just restriction spamming:

  • Hot Guard Disguises: If you put on a guard’s disguise, you must take it off within 2 minutes.
  • Hot Disguises: If you put on any disguise other than your suit, you must change it within a minute.
  • Restricted Loadout (of course, this can be essentially anything, but a simple one would just be default starting location, carrying nothing, and only able to change 47’s suit)
  • Restricted tools- 47 cannot bring certain categories of tools into his loadout (and perhaps they are removed from the level, too?). A simple, gamechanging example would be removing lockpicks & crowbars.
  • Poison Immunity; All NPCs are immune to the effects of poisons.
  • Subdermal Body Armor: All NPCs have significantly higher resistance to ballistic damage. (essentially making everyone Dino Bosco)
  • 'Tis But a Scratch: All explosions are nonlethal.
  • There Are No Accidents: All sources of Accident Kills, excluding falling and lethal poison, will knock NPCs unconscious instead of killing them. (note; this means propane canisters become nonlethal, but unlike 'Tis but a scratch ICA explosives will remain lethal)
  • Butterfingers: 47 can’t grab bodies. (IMO this is an ideal way to execute to the “hide no bodies” concept tossed around by others)
  • Roccoism: It’s Working Naked Day! (certain NPCs wear no disguise and just hang out in their boxers, eg. guards)
  • Open Carry: All civillian NPCs carry guns and will attack 47 if alerted. 47 can carry all guns legally.
  • Knives Out: Kills via lethal melee weapons do not create suspicious bodies.
  • Biodegradable Slugs: Kills via firearm do not create suspicious bodies.
  • Signal Interference: Remote detonation doesn’t function outside a specific range. (or at all)
  • Bomb Threat: Kills via explosives do not create suspicious bodies.
  • Side Job: Certain NPCs on the map become optional permissible Targets. (highlighted in orange akin to Sniper Assassin, guards would be the main candidates for this)
  • Wicked Toss: Throwing objects at NPCs triggers lethal explosions on impact.
  • Ripped Suit: 47 can only carry items in his hands or on his back. Any additional items in his inventory at any time (excluding the Camera) will fall out of his inventory onto the floor.
  • Suit Retrieval: 47 can only exit the level in his Suit, and must begin the level in a Suit.
  • Extreme Suppression: Suppressed firearms 47 uses will not inflict damage.
  • Just A Hug: While Subduing NPCs, 47 cannot be detected by any means.
  • Hostile Work Environment: All NPCs are Enforcers to all non-Suit Disguises.

Is there gonna be a new ET Arcade today, does anyone think? I know we seen some leaks of some, but maybe they want to tweak them. Thursday is usually content day, Last week we had featured contracts, the week before we had an Elusive Target or will we have no content? I don’t think there’s an ET this week because they normally show a few days before

Travis said in a previous post that the team is currenty aware of the players’ opinion about restrictions in ET Arcade. Maybe they are delayed because the dev team wishes some time to find new ways for this system.

I think that with the way that a lot of players received the first batch of three, the developers are probably taking extra time to try to be sure that the next group is going to be seen in a much better light. They’ll likely not just drop new ones out of the blue - they’ll say something publicly about it before they drop them.

Think unsuppressed versions of the .45 pistols might be future rewards? I know we’ve got one, but it looks more like the shortballer without the suppressor; I’d like a suppressor-less Silverballer, or Black Lilly.

A suppressed high powered pistol would be nice.

Very nice. Your info was correct. However, I really hope that the Whittleton Creek and Santa Fortuna FCs will get released in Hitman 3
