I have to admit that I am looking forward to complaining about the fact that any achievements or unlocks in the Cooperative mode that they’re making will be impossible for me to earn…
Hey everyone!
Just wanted to let you know, that we are aware of this topic and take it with us into internal discussions.
I waited for it to settle a bit, but was keeping my eyes on this since last week. Thanks for taking your time and sharing your thoughts (I read all of it!).
And I entirely believe all this happened.
The problem is, from everything I’ve seen these past few years, IO doesn’t want to give up on FOMO, not completely. It doesn’t matter how much we ask to cool it with the limited time content, FOMO still seems to permeate throughout the game, and it seems to get more destructive, not less.
Forget about limited time suits, how about limited time items? Or limited time DLC’s? The celebrity contracts seem to justify their limited time nature, which just makes me uneasy frankly. I concede, some effort has been done via ETA and Galore to curb the FOMO. But those are half-measures, not full solutions to the problem.
If this thread and discussion changes the mind of people inside the company, then I will of course, be eternally grateful. But we’ve been burned before.
I always really bristle at how defeatist your tone is whenever you make this kind of post.
Possibly, but even if forums like ours do end up making little difference to how things actually turn out, I think posts like this unnecessarily make a self-fulfilling prophecy more likely and honestly I wish you’d stop making them.
While we’re enjoying having a genuine dialogue with the most responsive community liaison IOI staffer we’ve had in years, I don’t think it does anyone any favours to pre-emptively start throwing buckets of cold water around willy nilly.
That’s fair. I just consider it being realistic but point taken.
well put,
IOI’s community reach has improved significantly and it feels more realistic that change is possible.
in the meantime, I’ll be a good little creator and try to get into the Patient Zero campaign to get people the Trophy Duck. ![]()
I think I would go as far to say that we might be in my favourite era in the ten years of WoA as far as community reach goes. Excluding 2016. And that exclusion is only because of the Square Enix money they had at the time, as it felt like Travis’s only task was to talk to us on reddit/YouTube, here etc because he was everywhere all the time.
Definitely agreed with this. It’s been really nothing short of magnificant to see the transition from where we were and the community relations were at to where we are now where this forum and other places can bridge the gap between the developers and the community who can report vital issues and important things that the majority may end up missing. We’ve got some very eagle eyed and quick Agents in here, so again it’s amazing to be able to have IOI communication in a much better place. We’ve had timing and scheduling issues with ETs, patches fixed in record time and great community engagement!
It reminds me of the Sims 4 in a way - they’ve had a good track record of communicating with their players using a Direct Communications Twitter account and the way they’ve applied themselves to being efficient and transparent with fixes is fantastic, something I wish was a lot more common in many games.
The more we have of this style, the more hope I and am sure others will have about the state of communication in their upcoming games, including Bond 007 as they will have a whole other group of dedicated fans to appease there.
I’m hoping that we will reach a solution to the problem of FOMO items and unlocks. I’m hoping that the current FOMO could be changed to ‘get this item through this method for early access’ (a bit like GTA+ in GTA Online with exclusive car sales for GTA+ members for the first few weeks) and then make it available for general unlocks through in game activities only, or at the very least through something more attainable than 3 codes. The Trophy Duck should be an award for watching an IOI community stream or something like ‘achieve x amount of kills within a game mode within a certain time’? There’s a lot that can be done with live service games, look at how Overwatch tried to incentivise unlocks based on in game activity for example.
I can see why businesses are attracted to the model of microtransactions and FOMO stratagems because of their commercial success but of course aware of how divisive and predatory they can be too.
So, when will I have an opportunity to get a Trophy Duck guaranteed?
No, Trophy Ducks aren’t a guaranteed unlock.
My question is, when will it become guaranteed. I’m waiting for it
As of now the only way to obtain the duck is through codes IOI Creators earn from Creator Campaigns. It’s not guaranteed for anyone currently.
Given the introduction of the CelebrET ducks, I’d say its probably pretty likely we’ll get one this year that will be a reskin of The Trophy Duck - might not be the exact Trophy Duck skin though.
