I’ve always said, these ideas of yours (or these to some extent) would have been great incorporating them in Freelancer!
I think Co-Op will be a complete separate entity from Freelancer and both will operate as completely separate modes. Plus, I don’t think Freelancer would really fit into Knight and Stone’s story.
I remember reading on here that IOI had potential plans for a big update to Freelancer, but they were waiting on the green light to pursue with the update?
This thread reminded me that I haven’t played Freelancer in months so all the DLC stuff I’ve bought isn’t available. I guess I have something to do for the next few days now!
There was clearly discussions ongoing around Freelancer and Arti was just awaiting the go ahead from the Devs whether they were actually going to green light the update. Hopefully we get it eventually
I’m sure it’s been said before but I’ll say it once more: 47 is a clone, why is the co-op mode not simply two 47s wearing different clothes? It’s funny, it’s cheap (because you don’t need to animate new characters), and it actually provides an interesting challenge as well. Mainly, if a disguise is blown for one it would make perfect logical sense for the same disguise to also be blown for the other (there are only so many useful ones). And, if it was also some kind of rogue-like, you have twice as many players who can mess up.
So long as there were always multiple targets, I think it would make some missions take less time but wouldn’t necessarily make the game that much less challenging. For example, if it was my job to follow part of a mission story so that I could provide a clearer shot for my sniper buddy, he’d still have to sneak/break into his nest.
If that sounds lame to you then you just have bad taste! (only joking of course) But that’s my pitch for freelancer co-op, “Freelancer: Roommates.”
Other potential challenges:
Shared weapon wall (items are lost for both players)
Shared payout
Less convenient force-quitting (an incentive to play through conflict)
You know what, I’ve been thinking @Shade and have you thought about tagging Arti into this? Not sure if he’s seen it and with him being as proactive as he is, wonder if we can get him to propose your idea to the Devs, so if they are thinking around potentially updating Freelancer in the future, they could take some bits and pieces from your ideas? Just a thought and we can also re-bump the thread to get more eyes on it
