Freelancer - General Discussion

That didn’t stop them in Mumbai.

Never going to happen. There’s at least one target in Berlin during takedowns that if you do something in particular when you have a specific target - she will walk out into this area.

Having this as an exit would then make it impossible to reach the target if you were to do this specific action as its an exit that automatically activates, rather than the player activating via a prompt.

@Patrick_McColloch posted a Zendesk ticket trying to add this as a feature-request.

Considering they’ve put in two exists into the game they didn’t exist a year ago, and have shown that starting points that have default outfits are disabled in Freelancer, then they can certainly make that exit a player activated spot like most others, removing that as an issue.

Well yeah in theory they could easily do it. The likelihood of it happening though…

Nothing we ever request or expect of them is likely. Still our prerogative to demand ask for it.

I’ve experienced this a lot as well lately in normal mode. One time it’s worked for me, but then the last 4 times it’s failed to register the objective at all.

So, is Freelancer set up so that any NPC on any map might randomly be chosen as a target anytime that map is part of a contract, or is there pool of certain NPCs IOI selected from each map and those are the ones that are randomly generated, while others will never be selected as targets?

It is probably the later, specific NPCs chosen randomly for each contract.

Has to be the latter cuz I’m getting a lot of repeat targets, especially in Colorado which I choose for almost 90% of my syndicates chosen. Hokkaido I’m getting a lot of repeats.

I’m wondering why didn’t every npc on the map get chosen to be a random target?

All right so where the hell is there a propane flask in Santa Fortuna?

Isn’t there one by the mansion kitchen ?

I think they’ve been removed for Freelancer.

There’s one in the mansion, outside of the door that leads to the guard’s break room in the basement. Can’t miss it if you walk down the stairs from the outdoor screen/whirlpool side of the property.

Don’t know if it’s been removed for Freelancer, but that gas station that is the default starting location in the main game, the one where you go ask for glue, there’s a propane canister leaning against a crate behind that building.

Weird thing that occurred to me last night: taking into account how long the stairway is leading from the bunker up to the kitchen, and then the stairway leading from the first floor to the second floor, does it seem to anyone else that the ladder that leads from the bunker to the bedroom hatchway is too short? For some reason, it feels like it should take longer to clime to get all the way up there. :man_shrugging:

There are already enough targets in Freelancer who are just not very good as targets… making the selection completely random would make this issue far worse.

The amount of NPCs in some maps who just remain in public spots, not moving, or moving around a crowd (hey random Marrakesh protestors). NPCs that are literally almost impossible to kill without exploits (hey Herald behind the glass in Colorado). NPCs that have weird behaviour of ignoring distractions (hey everyone in the auction in Paris).

Just seems like a better idea to curate targets to me. Plus Freelancer adds a bunch of NPCs as targets who have longer paths than most NPCs, which is nice and makes it more than just a random contract you could make yourself.

Well I have to disagree 100000% cuz this mode isn’t about SA. If you have an auction target, follow your objectives. If you have something that contradicts that like fiber wire him, well, kill (with a ducky) and move on. Not every kill will be perfect. That’s what makes freelancer.

I could agree if you have SA, but again freelancer moves away from that so making any target is totally fine. It actually makes the modes longevity mean more.

I played a good amount of the CTT and back then it was definitely an almost 100% random target selection. I think every single NPC might have been a viable choice.

It was terrible.

Completely stationary targets are really obnoxious to kill, and absolutely no fun. Yes, you can kill them, but your options for doing so are extremely limited. Even now, the few stationary targets that remain valid targets really stick out as some of the worst targets in Freelancer.

And that’s where proper planning and creativity come into play. Just like Elusive targets, there are going to be some stationary targets. I agree they are not the best, but the mechanics of this game with planning and creativity, can make any target fun.

Playing Colorado almost all the time with every syndicate Contract I choose, I’m getting nothing new already. I’m mastery 50 and a lot of maps I’m getting the same ones as well.

I have a challenge if anyone wants to pursue it…
Activate the Flamingo Army in Miami (during a showdown). It would be humorous if it is achievable as you wouldn’t be able to see any distinguishable features of the Suspects.

To pull it off though, the level would still need:
Flamingo Photo
2 Flamingo NPCs

If I somehow find the time (family/work balance), I’ll see if I can do it.
