Freelancer - General Discussion

I’ve discovered today that killing a target with the Splitter Kukri Knife doesn’t count for the “killing a target with a knife” regular objective. I’ve never with the regular kukri, but I’ve tested with other knives from the safehouse and it worked.

Interesting. Either it counts more toward a general melee kill because it’s seen as more of a sword than a knife, or somebody goofed something.

Good observation. Maybe if someone can try this. Maybe the weapon is incorrectly inputted of what it actually is.

Yeah, because a kukri I think is more of an inverted machete than a knife, and I think machetes fall under the sword category.

A kukri is absolutely a knife. If I asked someone for a machete and they brought me a kukri, I’d tell them to go back and get what I asked for.

I said “more of” for a reason. It’s not exactly one, but it can be seen as one due to its large size and chopping nature rather than slicing or stabbing. So, perhaps IOI programmed it in as one.

Anyway, I was just playing Freelancer on Ambrose Island, and the most hilariously unintentional thing happened. In the area where you can get the metal working disguise in the little hut just outside Akka’s headquarters, there’s a metal worker who is always an enforcer. He was one of my assigned targets for the mission. A second metal worker in the area is also a target and he walks a route that takes him to the one working on the boat motor near the restaurant all the way to the area where you get the metal worker’s disguise. I shot the welding tanks the enforcer target uses while no one was looking, and he walks over and turns on his welding torch just as the second metal worker target is walking past. I did not know that they were close enough to each other, and did not plan or intend this in any way, but both targets blew up at the same time. It was fantastic!

Unfortunately we’re not talking facts here. We are talking about whether ioi programmed (intentionally or unintentionally) the item as a knife or sword. Or maybe they forgot all together to label it under any type.

@Heisenberg. @47saso47, @schatenjager, and @BlobSponge

For the record: the original kukri knife is a knife for the payout objective.
So the Splitter one not seems an accident of its implementation.

It’s currently not possible, however, it’s something that has been highly requested for sometime by fans. To have all of 47’s briefcases stored on display in the Safehouse basement and not usable is a bit of a waste. Hopefully we get a future update where the briefcases can be picked up by 47 to store his Snipers and stuff in before heading out of the Safehouse

Anyone lately I’d say past 3/4 days

47 continues to move up without me pushing a button on my Xbox after I stop moving.

I’ll pull back and he stops

Then he’s fine can move normally. But sometimes during a mission it will happen.

I have Xbox wireless.

It could be my controller. It also happened after I put new batteries in.

Weird

Might get a wired controller

I wish we could carry it around as well, but I get that we cant do it in the safehouse. So a way we could change it would be like changing suits.
A prompt would show up once you unlock the first briefcase stand and the selected briefcase would be the one standing in front :briefcase:

I would love for this to be implemented!

It might be drift stick.
It happens to both wired and wireless controllers - basically your stick is getting loose and moves slightly or gets stuck at a certain direction, just enough for the controller to register it.

It happened to two of my old controllers as well with wear and tear through the years.

You might be able to calibrate it. Microsoft has a tool for that. Back when flight sticks and joysticks were more prevalent, those would regularly need calibration to keep centered. Here’s a link to the Xbox controller calibration tool support page:

The Concrete Bunny pistol.

The final item I need to advance to prestige level 4.

I haven’t found it at any supplier and made sure to leave 3 freelancer tools in the game to keep the supplier inventory open.

Hope it populates.

I hate this bug

Pretty sure you don’t need the DLC items for prestige

It’s needed. Because after I finally got it 5 missions later it finally was at a supplier, the gear laptop turned on for next level.

Huh I guess I misremembered about not needing them if you don’t own the packs… Think I have only prestiged a couple times tbf, so good to know that.

You didn’t. The DLC weapons aren’t necessary to prestige. I’ve done it a few times without all of them.

They do end up clogging the vendors, though, so it’s usually helpful to buy at least some/most of them.

That is pretty damn cool.

I really hope something like this happens one day!! :slightly_smiling_face:

That’s definitely stick drifting and it can make the game downright unplayable (I’ve lost two gamepads to that plague in a couple of years). You can lessen the problem by augmenting the “dead zone” around the center of the stick (I dunno how you’d do that on Xbox but there are probably some controller configuration settings somewhere). It will, however, only delay the inevitable and that gamepad will end up messing with your controls forever if you keep using it.

I’d suggest getting a Hall Effect gamepad (they’re supposed to be very resilient to that specific issue).
