Freelancer - General Discussion

I think it’s pretty clear where it comes from, although it is mostly misplaced in my opinion.

Some on this forum have accused IOI of outright lying concerning various things. From the 6 20-mastery maps in Hitman 3 to the release date of Freelancer, they’ve got a reputation for “misstating” certain things. Whether that’s due to the simple fact of how development tends to change things, language/translation issues, misquoting, confusion, or something else, some people hold them to an incredibly high standard that they predictably fail to meet.

In other cases there are bugs that have been longstanding issues that, despite being reported over and over, have not been fixed or took a very long time to fix. Many players assume that the only explanation for this is lack of personnel when there could be other reasons.

Many players on this forum and others tend to take the position of assuming the worst in the vain hope that they won’t be disappointed when the worst doesn’t happen. Assuming that ongoing support is just not going to happen makes it easier to deal with delays in further patches or lack of ongoing content.

As I said at the beginning of this post, it’s not necessarily justified, but it’s clear where the sentiment comes from.

Anyone else find their most commonly brought tool is the scalpel? Can’t lose it and for a long while it was the only knife I had access too. Now even though I have a bunch of them I’m just in the habit of grabbing it, changing clothes, and going on a mission.

I don’t know if much people know but an exit is added in Bangkok? I was playing Freelancer and was ready to exit the mission. Being in the kitchen I was surprised to see an exit like 20m away. Turns out that you can exit through the beach area. On the map where it says ‘‘Patio’’. Added new animations and everything. 47 climbs over the railing and walks away on the beach with the hotel in the background. Pretty cool!

Oh that sounds cool. I’ll give it a go. Thanks for sharing.

I’m more of a ‘Banana every time kind of person’.

The banana is just perfect for couriers, I wish I could have access to more than 1!

I always take the wrench from the garage, as I imagine opening up some valve with it in a rare display of creativity and strategy. Never happened. I just use it to toss it at someone’s head.

I agree about the wrench… I used it yesterday for a ‘Collateral Explosion’ in Santa Fe, for a stove leak, that was so effective, that I lost my life in the explosion!

I tried it and lost money. Then I saw a video to help gauge timing and still lost. After a couple of days I thought to try the timing again, but without thinking I rushed into the vault and right over and pressed the button as if I was just turning it on and not checking. Won big! Chuckled.

What exactly do you need to do to complete the “Arange a meeting” prestige objective? I’ve managed to get it a few times in the past, but most of the time it doesn’t work for me. I take a burner phone and use the “Arrange a meeting” prompt. But sometimes, even after waiting for everybody to arrive, the objective doesn’t register as completed.

  • Does it have to be the right type of meeting?
  • Can I only do that, if I haven’t already eliminated the target?
  • Can I not use the target’s phone?

So far I haven’t understood the specific requirements behind that objective. Do you know more than me?

I think I’ve used the banana exactly twice - both times for challenges that required making a target slip.

It’s bugged, so sometimes you need three or four phones in order to trigger the prestige. Stupid. You’d think IO would have been on top of at least some of these bugs, given how much extra time they took before releasing freelancer.

I’ve only ever gotten it to register if the actual target attends the “meeting” and at least one other suspect. If it’s just a single suspect going to where the phone is or only non-targets I’ve never had it pop. I agree that it is probably bugged.

It usually triggers by just making the call - it should trigger as soon as you press “arrange meeting” and it does… 6 times out of 10.

The objective is completed when the target is notified of the meeting, so it has to be the right type & they have to be alive/awake when you press the button. I don’t know if taking their phone would stop them getting the message, might be worth trying (using sedative so they don’t panic when someone wakes them up)

Then why does it trigger even when the target is dead?

I’ve had it trigger before even when the target was dead and the other suspects had ran away and left the map.

Well, I think we’re all in agreement then. It’s buggy and inconsistent.

That also works as a review of freelancer on a whole.
