Freelancer Killed Hitman

Even if they did increase Mastery Level, people that have continued to play Freelancer might just automatically get moved to whatever the new cap is. The other day I extracted my Player Profile from the servers and in the file with data on your mastery levels etc - instead of it saying I’m at level 100 for the Safehouse (which is what shows in-game), the servers consider me to be at Level 699.

So any potential increase is possibly not even going to result in me having do anything to reach the new maximum other than loading the Safehouse and watching the unlocks roll in.

Being FREE does not excuse issues, especially since it’s in a PAID game.

It kinda does though. Everything about Freelancer is an extra that could just not have been there. Getting all up in arms and antagonizing IO (like some people do) is entitled as fuck in that light. Not that we can’t discuss the problems, but saying that “Freelancer Killed Hitman”… Hours and hours of additional (the main game is still there) cost-free content that was never advertised anywhere at release.

In principle, no developer has ever owed anyone an issue-free game. I think, in general, what is happening here is that a of player’s egos are getting hurt when playing Freelancer, and they need some place to direct that frustration… IO.

That’s fair, I can agree to that. It’s a corollary. Entitlement is not antagonising IOI to get what you want, but saying something is free does not absolve it from all issues it has.

This is why I try to do constructive criticism, and while I’ve thrown a few barbs IOI’s way (I call their Freelancer tools blogpost “self-serving” and their website “horribly formatted” – because it is-- in my recent video on Freelancer), but those were done for very specific reasons I’d already detailed.

And as should be obvious Freelancer did not kill Hitman. It’s stronger than ever.

This is an updated post with further feedback…

AFAIK you can’t get epics and legendaries from crates in levels, only commons and rares, and they’re, well, rare, so no need to scrounge for them if that’s what you’re looking for. You can get them in reward crates for defeating a syndicate leader though (and from vendors).

Aside from that I don’t think Freelancer killed anything, although you could say that whenever I died during a playthrough it technically counts as “killing Hitman”.

Either Freelancer isn’t canon OR everybody realized their life was a video game so they willingly do the same thing over and over again just to make us all bored so we stop playing so that the ratings will go down so that everybody can finally get back to living their own lives instead of catering to the demands of an alternate (OUR) universe.

Or, and hear me out on this, Freelancer is canon, but IOI’s plan is still the rest of what you said there, but they failed and will still have to cater to the demands of our alternate universe.

Totally agree!!

Freelancer has made Hitman III even better than it already was!

I know many others agree, Freelancer in fact brought back one of the most loved things of the Franchise, that being 47’s Safehouse.

I hope the Safehouse from Freelancer returns in the next big game!

I don’t know if this is necessarily true, but it has made it endlessly playable.

Sorry to say, but in my opinion…. Freelancer has absolutely nothing in Common with Hitman. Even Not the Quality normally comes with a Game from IOI. Starting with the massive amount of Bugs, they playstyle, the ridiculous Missions, the Loss of everything, glitches where Things glitches Out of Map, getting spottet over the whole map…even through different floors. Where they hell ist the Quality, where ist really the Game. No Mission run as IT should, hyping a Game Mode for that…sorry crap? They havent fixed a single Bug till now, and they will not. For me personally playing Hitman since the GameCube….it is dead. Defintely dead. Like the Companys itself. And the day will come the Servers will switched off. But asking to buy 007 ist a bit ambitious…as they cannot fix a Game so long in the market and leaving all Bugs unsolved, not rethinking the whole Mode? Sorry , not a pence for 007. As IOI reacts like other companys now for quick Money…keep your Games…..farewell Hitman

The bugs you have described are not specific to Freelancer.
They are in the game for ages now

Oh… the many different play styles Hitman has advocated for a long time now (looking at the different score names if you play a certain way other than just Silent Assassin) those ones? Sure the gameplay is different, but at the core of it, you are just assassinating a set number of targets and leaving. Just like in every play style.

You assassinate targets with minimal casualties in a stealth puzzle. Freelancer very much fits that design.

…most of which are not specific to Freelancer.

The playstyle is more freeform because the base game is so strict. By design, it’s aiming to get players thinking outside the box, and the demoting of S/A to a side objective proves this. It makes other playstyles much more coveted.

Welcome to RNG. Are they silly? Yes. Are they conforming to a puzzle that lest players work out how to complete them? Also yes.

If you bring items in with you, then I expect them to be lost if I fail a hit. That seems like a very reasonable punishment. It conforms to roguelike standards.

Freelancer Tools being taken away however, is a well-documented issue players have had since inception as it makes the game slow to a crawl when you fail.

Again, not specific to Freelancer, but yes, still very annoying To quote Clemens:

That is a bold claim. And yes, they have fixed freelancer-specific bugs.

It is still very much alive.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean here. I’m not exactly IOI’s biggest fan right now, but they are far from dead or in financial issues.

You do realise the game has an offline mode, right? A pretty shit one that needs revamping sooner rather than later (and yeah, Freelancer can’t be accessed offline, which is also dumb).

007 First Light has bigger problems than IOI’s neglect of bugfixing (expensive editions, suit exclusivity via Amazon, overly-expensive collectors edition). Which again, to their credit, they are doing.

Freelancer has actually been through several tests, and there was a CTT before release that I got to play, where feedback was taken on board. The mode does not need to revamped, it needs changes to its economy and punishment systems, but it does not require a from-the-ground-up revamp.

I find the company more opportunistic that outright trying to make a quick buck. I think the most controversial thing they’ve done is the Sapienza Edition, and that was not liked; so much so they eventually removed it.

Then…why post here? IO barely reads the forum as-is right now, so they’re not going to pay attention to this thread.

This is not the place to rant incoherently about issues. You may as well be talking to a brick wall.

Sorry so say,you should think First. The Bugs i Talk of Are Not!!! In the regular Game, only in Freelancer. Second. If i modify a Game beyond the Soundaries that Happens. But IT has zo be solved, as Players spending Money for Games they should solve such issued Bugs. Fixed nothing, modified Yes. Today i Run in a Bug make me belive i am nuts. Coming in the Mission, running in dartmoore a perfekt run, havin 14398 mecrces im my Pocket, …coming to my hideout and guess what? 1289 in the Bank. Perfekt run. Include safe, Courier, secondary target and sa. Is that what you call normal? Geht the fanboy glasses Off. Ir is Not funny anymore and hast nothing to do with the Quality IOI ist Fame for, zhe Most Companys even b……… and u……. Are more known for that bullshit…but they Work in it, DE…. delivered more contend free and more bugfree as here. They gave Up Bugfixes. When the Last one occurede, Bugfixes, Not modifications. No replay needed. If it stays that way they never should Release a new Hitman Game

Go look at my post history. I’m not exactly happy with IO right now, and I’ve made my disdain for the companies recent actions pretty clear…including on the comment I responded to you.

When the Last one occurede, Bugfixes, Not modifications

Literally this previous patch. And the one before that.

Don’t get me wrong, it broke stuff as well, but there were bugfixes (Mumbai no longer killing players while climbing down the elevator shaft, just for one example). See here.

idiotic

This thread isn’t really adding anything productive and I think it would be better off closed. We’ve got the huge ongoing Freelancer thread if anyone wants to raise anything specific related to issues regarding Freelancer.

What does everything think?

PS - I love Freelancer!!!

Completely agree. Lock this down mods.

There is already an existing Freelancer thread for wider discussion. This thread has ran its course and is not offering anything productive. For bug related issues, please report in the relevant bug section :slightly_smiling_face:
