Freelancer - Pre-Release Discussion

I’m making an assumption here since we don’t know how the mode will play out at the start, but assuming we can start with some basic gear at least, like the fiber wire and Silverballer, I think on my first playthrough of the campaigns, I’m just gonna go lure assassin. No accidents, no outsourcing, just pure murder; shooting, strangling, poisoning, stabbing, neck breaking, explosives. Rebuild 47’s rep so that he’s ready by the next game’s story.

Yeah, it’s never enough escalations

I expect for it to be free since H3 is in dire need of new content and after the deal with Arcade, I say it’s more than neccesary right now. Only see the new map as being paid.

IOI made more money with Hitman 3 than profits from all their other previous releases over the past 20 years.

IOI are not going to introduce microtransactions. They are not desperate for cash now, and would be more concerned about blowback from the community as a small independent developer.

IOI can continue to be aggressive in their pricing on Steam because they can. Hitman is now a legacy game for IOI which they invest every month to keep the loyal fans connected, and sales are tiny compared to what they were at launch a year ago.

IOI are anticipating a big cash cow out of Project 007 if they put together a good product. 80-90% of their effort is looking forward to ensure the success of Project 007.

It is not like IOI want to turn off fans off of Hitman. IOI just have more important priorities now.

Ths part right here should be the reason why they would price it at a lower price, I’d say. If they know not to expect as many sales as last year, and have paid DLC in the future roadmap ahead, wouldn’t it make more sense to sell the game cheaper, and then cash in on the DLC again?

Yes. IOI probably will lower price on the Hitman Trilogy associated with release of new DLC in the future. Now that Hitman 3 is on XBox game pass, they have to rely on PC and PS4/PS5 sales. If they lower prices, they have to sell more units to make up for the cost. It might not be the case when Hitman sales approach market saturation.

Just so you know, Microsoft PAYS developers to put their games on GamePass. So ioi is actually making money with that move

hahaha. Funniest thing I’ve read on here. In what reality are you in?

One where they’ve been around here significantly longer than you, so might know a thing or two more about it, since IO talks to this community directly.

Why do you think they will include MTX? What basis is your assumption on that?

Yeah, considering they just gave the entire current Steam playerbase free DLC to curb community backlash I REALLY don’t think they’re looking for the microtransaction market.

Frankly even among the greediest, most blatant publishers in the current AAA industry they at least TRY to hide microtransactions beyond “the game has only one currency, you can pay real money to buy more of it.”

Given that, I really don’t understand the idea that Freelancer is “prepped for microtransactions” when the basegame could very easily sell us individual suits, and probably make more money than Freelancer ever could

True. However, if you own an XBOX, then you are not likely a new buyer of Hitman Trilogy if you can get it all for free through Gamepass monthly subscription. IOI had incentive to improve Hitman 3 for PC (enhanced visuals and VR) in 2022 because of the Steam release. Now IOI has more of an incentive to bring out more paid DLC, because they have a huge playerbase of those who pay for GamePass or own PC/Stadia/PlayStation versions of Hitman.

It makes more sense for IOI to invest more heavily in new content for 2022 than to invest in free content updates, given that the Hitman Trilogy is reaching market saturation for new buyers.

Spring release doesn’t necessarily mean as soon as Spring begins. Theoretically it could be released the day before Summer and IO won’t have gone against its word to release in Spring.

IO also has a rich history of blowing time lines :joy:

Somewhere in the hideout there needs to be a music player. Similar to the one in the suite in Bangkok that plays Ava Maria… But somehow have more songs available to listen to. Literally every song in the game would be preferable, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up for that. Yeah. Even those distracting songs from radios in the missions. The Marrakech carpet shop music? Yep. The Gelato/Ice-Cream shop music? Of course! Or music from any of the missions.

Perhaps it could open a small menu that you could scroll through. Maybe make a playlist while you just hang out.

/wishlist

Edit: If it wasn’t obvious… I mean it changes or sets the music you hear. Not just a localized sound source you have to get closer to to hear better.

So 47 has connected speakers throughout his home? “Alexa play Song of the Orphans everywhere,” “playing song of the orphans by Bruce Springsteen in your bedroom.” “I said everywhere!” “I don’t understand.” “Play the song everywhere.” “Playing Everywhere by Niall Horan in your bedroom.” 47 shoots Alexa
