Freelancer - Pre-Release Discussion

I love the idea. How would it work with network errors or bugs?

There are other games that do this but I can imagine inforseen problems.

If it can work though I am all for it!

ahahaha-no
Can you imagine how buggy that would be. No. Just no.

How would you know how buggy it would be? That’s a total guess. A perma-death mode would be great. If you’re on contract 3 of 5, if you die, you need to start from contract 1 again. Not just restart and continue at contract 3 again.

I would also like to have no restarts along with perma-death. You go in as you go in.

Except that isn’t ā€œperma-deathā€. That’s just restarting a contract series. A real perma-death would be actually staring the Freelancer mode over from scratch. No money, no earned weapons, reset the safe house back to zero, etc.

With a term like ā€œperma-deathā€, I would say dying would mean you can never play that campaign in Freelancer again.

None of these ā€œperma-deathā€ proposals sound even the slightest bit appealing. Let Freelancer be like normal gameplay, with saves and everything.

Idea: What if you need to buy saves with Hitcoins? Really make that currency system count.

Mmm, maybe…

Real Perma-death would be if you die, you never play Hitman 3 again. Ever. Who’s that hardcore? :joy:

You die in the game, you die in real life. Now that’s permadeath.

you guys obviously aren’t Real Gamersā„¢

I think ioi should add a feature where if you die in the game they hire a real hitman to find and snuff you out in real life.

GiT GUd or GIt DIed mode.

Fun Fact: Most people think a ā€œT-Poseā€ refers to the shape of the stance, but the ā€œTā€ actually stands for ā€œTestosteroneā€ and characters stand like that to give their manly balls breathing room.

NoOBz!

So just to clarify, at least in my idealised version of it, Perma-death is a toggle, so if you don’t want to have that, don’t use it. I would however definitely use it as it would add to the immersion and roleplaying element of being an assassin.

My definition of perma-death would loosely be that if you die you lose all of your freelancer progress (weapons, hideout stuff, completed contracts etc) and have to start again.

Saves and restarts is down to personal preference I guess, when i’m playing the regular missions/campaign I save and restart pretty much constantly as i figure out the puzzle of the level. But in freelancer I personally would not want to be able to restart or save so it will force me to plan, observe, be patient, feel the pressure.

For me, if these elements aren’t present, I don’t really understand the spirit of this new mode, they could just release these new missions as contracts.

Oh, I missed the part about a toggle. Sure, if you can switch it on or off to your own preference, fine then, go for it, IO.

I’m kinda hoping it will be in the next roadmap however I can also see it being spread out until next month considering they’re only giving us three new big projects for this year

I wish this month we’re going to see more information and teasers of the modešŸ‘

I’m not sure why I’m seeing people expecting Freelancer later in the year, when they explicitly said it would release in Spring in the Year 2 video. It also said the mode was in the final stages of development, so I am expecting May unless the fan reaction to the other content have scared IO into delaying…

The problem is, what they said was that Freelancer is currently scheduled for release in the spring. That is not a hard and fast, written-in-stone timetable that IO must adhere to no matter what. It is not at all implausible, or even unlikely, that if there are any issues at this final stage of development, that it could be delayed to a date further in the year.
