I’m honestly shocked by this announcement. They already spent several years’ worth of dev time on this, I thought if they were gonna cancel it they would’ve done so a long time ago. Hopefully the No Return gamemode is reusing some elements they made for Factions 2 so at least the devs’ efforts weren’t totally wasted.
I know we’re still like 4 years out from the PS6 so things could change but Naughty Dog this console generation has been very disappointing. On PS4 they had Uncharted 4, Uncharted Lost Legacy, and TLOU2. On PS5 they still haven’t released a new game, with no news or even a teaser image about what their next game will be.
Given how randomly this No Return mode seems to be included into the game, with no precedent of having needed exclusive content for the next-gen upgrade, I’m hoping that some small part of ND’s Online plan was used for this.
Like, the game was supposed to be some sort of multiplayer-focused game that also tells an unfolding narrative that Naughty Dog is known for, but after the GAAS audit that happened sometime earlier this year, it was noted that they didn’t seem to have the longevity needed to make an engaging, money-making experience.
I really wish they’d have just focused on making an upscaled version of the original Factions stealth/survival gameplay. There’s still nothing like it out there, and it’s such a shame that we’ll be going over a decade without a modern followup to it.
Hopefully, even if development is shut down, they can use some of it if they ever make Part III as a smaller MP mode similar to the original game…
We lost the chance at a version in Part II so we could go on this lengthy journey of an expanded version… but now it’s dead again.
I mean it’s evident Naughty Dog is biting off more than they can choose given their trajectory into making their franchises into multimedia franchises that transcend just Video Games.
Factions was always gonna be a tall order to fill given the way they were advertising it to the point where post launch content support would directly impact every other project they may have in their pipeline.
I’m very much glad this got canceled cause that means they can put their all into their Singleplayer projects.
The only conceivable way I could have seen factions panning out is if it was outsourced with specific core developers at Naughty Dog keeping a watchful eye on the project.
There was definitely a lot of mismanagement and too big of a scope for the project.
It’s still REALLY painful to see that we’ve been lead along for 4 years now, only for literally nothing to come out of this. All that work the devs did, the teases about what the game would be, we’ll never know…
And it’s not like there couldn’t have been a middle ground, just making a smaller multiplayer like the original, dropping an update or map pack, and leaving it at that.
I get that Live Services are where all the monry is at these days (and it’s oversaturated so breaking into it to be successful is TOUGH) but Ghost of Tsushima had a completely free, micro-transaction free, classic multiplayer-mode added onto itself.
Clearly Sucker Punch had a lot of love poured into it and Sony were willing to foot the bill essentially for a major side-addition.
But it really sucks that all this time was essentially wasted, will probably never see the light of day again, and most likely pushed back work on whatever the team’s next single-player project would be…
Good they know what the plan is, but really sucks it had to end like this…
As what @lukefsje said. It’s not impossible, at the end of the day it boils down to WB, simply because Rocksteady who were originally suppose to create Origins they focused all their efforts into Arkham Knight leading to the project being headed by WB Montreal the people who did the Arkham City Wii U Port. Because of this we got a product that breaks canon to Rocksteady’s Trilogy which is why it’s never acknowledged.
Origins isn’t a bad game, but hindsight 20/20 was its not on the radar for WB Games currently given their coasting off of the success from Nether Realms and CDPR. Yes it’s evident people want more Arkham, and it’s gonna be more evident when Suicide Squad gets released, but in the meantime what’s important is that The Arkham Games are readily available depending on your platform of choice that being Xbox and PC.
That is 1272 times less than what Microsoft gave them for their buyout if my math is right (it might not be because I suck at it). Unfortunately this means they have basically gotten away with their demonstrably horrible shit and copped a mere slap on the wrist. Undoubtedly they are having a tit milk and pudding pop party in their Cosby room to celebrate.
Well, some people are already a little pissed that they’ve released the skin with no alterations to its Switch version.
Essentially: It’s got low-quality textures. Kinda chunky, very pixellated.
I’m not that mad about it, but still disappointed.
Like… there really isn’t a higher quality version that matches all other suits in the game?
From December 19th to the 22nd shrek and other universal studios characters will be in Minecraft for bedrock edition ( any version besides pc ) only also you could argue thanks to crossovers like these shrek is canon to mortal kombat now
There are also free hats from the 19th to January 8th and the how to train your dragon minions and Jurassic world dlcs will be 33% off and since I’m talking about Minecraft may as well put a link to their website mentioning the armadillo being added in previews betas and snapshots
A lot of Rocksteady’s successor to Arkham Knight, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League leaked.
Unsurprisingly you do kill members of the Justice League.
Surprisingly Kevin Conroys send off as Batman kinda sucks.
In another shocking twist James Gunn confirmed this won’t be the last we see of Rocksteady’s Arkham-verse.
What won’t be surprising is how they will write themselves into a corner with this game for future projects and need to implement multiverses or time travel.
Also Aqua Man is absent. Sorry but I’m not spoiler tagging this.
What’s funny is the leaks really haven’t changed my opinion on the game, which is “Why the hell did they follow up Arkham Knight with this?” From what I’ve seen of the leaks, they’re pretty consistent with what I expected the game to be like.
