They clearly can’t handle late stage changes so it is better that they just do what they can. Anything else is like rescuing a drowning person, they just drag you under and kill you as well. Very few studios pull off even the slightest changes in late development so imagine starting all over near the end.
Take a look at the long list of gaming flops. Take a shot every time you see them change story or design or gameplay direction late in development. That or it is because of a stupid executive decision coming down from on high. Bioware are not god at mitigating either scenario and in a lot of ways they never have been even before their glut of less than stellar titles.
Game development isn’t as simple as banging on a keyboard and then the game is done. It is very hard work done over man manhours by many different people with various specialisations.
We should all remember that Veilguard was first developed as a live service game
At least they dropped that early on or the game would have ended worse than it is now when it comes to sales and number of players.
I dunno. I think a lot of what people consider to be so bad about Veilguard was the result of making such a radical decision. I know it certain is the reason why the story is so bad especially for the first few hours.
You go from a live-service game where you need very little in what you would consider a story to suddenly having to develop a fully formed story with characters and the like. And then everybody writing it changes it like you change your fucking pants and do so even some months before the game goes gold.
Peak clusterfuck conditions. It seems a lot of the Bioware magic is actually stated for destruction spells.
Sadly Bioware lost their most talented writers long ago. Unless they can somehow bring them back or hire high profile ones from sucessful games like BG, I not sure there’s a reason to be too enthusiastic about ME5 or any other future project.
I mean Casey Hudson who manned the ME Trilogy and KOTOR came back albeit briefly. But beyond that everything from that era of BioWare ceases to exist.
I haven’t played DA Inquisition, but just from what I know about DA as a series it’s been largely a mixed bag of a series.
So my only knowledge of BioWare is between KOTOR and the ME Trilogy since ME Andromeda failed to capture me when I attempted to play it.
There isn’t, all we have to go off of is a teaser that is a few years old now, and how they’re gonna canonize one of the controversial endings of ME3’s Directors Cut…
controversially i actually liked veilguard for what it was - just to have a dragon age game after 10 years was unthinkable - but they really need to study the fuck out of what went wrong if they want ME5 to be good. the pieces are all there
and it goes without saying but i’m incredibly tired of meddling executives getting their hands all over a project and making developers take the fall when it ends up being bad. creative vision is important! just get the creators of ME1 in a room together and let them make whatever they want. it will work!!!
Considering how poor Andromeda was, ME5 basically has to be perfect which with EA’s recent track record I’m not holding out much hope. I loved the original trilogy but the ending of 3 left a sour taste in my mouth.
I’ve heard of item-shop cosmetics mixups before (Fortnite’s done it a couple times by reselling ‘exclusive items’) but this is the first I’ve heard of a mix-up before it’s supposed to be out.
WHOOPS
I’d imagine someone added that Twitch skin to the store by mistake and everyone will get a refund as normal with these things.
But wow, yikes, really bad look.
You know what would be really cool. If PlayStation could loosen those grips on their IP’s too. Games would be enjoyed by all and not bound to specific consoles
Hell yeah! I don’t know when Gran Turismo will become available outside of PS, but this might just change Sony or Polyphony Digital’s mind. 10 years ago if you told me we would get Forza on PS or TLOU on PC, I wouldn’t believe it, yet here we are. Now when can I get to play Mario Kart on PlayStation?
