Game News Thread

Nom nom nom, I eat my words.

But there’s a Tim Schafer Day of the Devs ad after the showcase, so that’s just as good.

Wiki tells me Alyssa Ashcroft is from Outbreak and most recently had a cameo in RE7.

Okay, FBI technical analyst, Grace Ashcroft, sent to investigate The Remwood Hotel. The place where her mother was killed 8 years ago. Game takes place in the aftermath of the Raccoon City destruction. Most likely 30 years later.

Bit disappointed to not see any familiar faces but I’m in as long as it’s spooky and has item management lol.

Alyssa was mentioned in RE7, since she wrote articles found in a newspaper at the Baker House. Damn, it sucks if she really died but it’s cool we will get a new protagonist and one related to a character from Outbreak!

Also about Resident Evil 9: Requiem, I like that they might grab a loose plot point from Outbreak. After each ending, there’s this cutscene that shows Umbrella or remnants of it stablishing an investigation outpost at the ruins of Raccoon City. If this gets connected to Requiem, I’m gonna be very happy!

It’s so cool. I’ve never played Outbreak so I have to deep dive in the lore.

I’m getting Fincher Seven vibes from the trailer. The title card, murders, investigations, rain, flashbacks. It looks too cool. Wonder if Leon will show up. He’ll be in his 50s by then? I just want to know more! Is it gonna be third person or first person perspective. I need gameplay so bad.

Resident Evil 9 looks very compelling and the post destruction raccoon city is honestly the best idea they had in a while. All while tying it into the Outbreak Files which has some of the juiciest pieces of lore in regards to Raccoon City and by extension Raccoon Forest.

Here is to hoping this somehow has ties to Albert Lester.

Finally a game festival with games that I was looking forward! This is awesome. Resident Evil 9, A decent CelebET, Nioh 3, 007, amazing!

I thought Game Key Cards were Nintendo’s smart, cheap way to incentivise devs to get their games in a Physical format and a low cost instead of the high-size Switch 2 cartridges, but even that’s not it!

Split Fiction on Switch 2 still is doing the dumb physical one-code-only format. The fuck?!?

https://screenrant.com/switch-2-split-fiction-physical-code-key-card/

EA… Grrrrrr… :wolf:
Or possibly Hazelight… Double Grrrrrrr! :wolf::bear:

So now, the switch 2 has 4 formats of “Physical” games to watch out for!

  1. A Switch 2 cartridge only able to be played on Switch 2.
  2. A Switch 1 cartridge loaded with a Switch 2 Upgrade Pack, able to be played on either console.
  3. A Switch 2 Game Key Card Cartridge only on Switch 2, downloads the game from the internet, but is able to be loaned/traded/sold more than once.
  4. A code in a box only able to be used once on Switch 2.

God…

Summer Games Fest was alright. Honestly, I’d be tempted to say it’s a bit better than The Game Awards. No real highs, but also little meandering, with stuff like adverts and having to speed run the awards they don’t think we care about. At least SGF mostly sticks to just being a big game announcement fest.

Resident Evil 9 looks good. I’ve only really gotten into Resident Evil in the last few years, but good chance I will be buying this on launch.

Sonic Racing Crossworlds is looking promising, if only for the fact that Sega/Sonic Team seem to actually intend to support the game post-launch. The last Sonic racing, Team Sonic Racing, felt like it was made out of obligation. Like Sega told Sumo Digital to just make a Sonic racing game, gave them a tight budget and deadline, and it went out the door for $40 to be immedietly forgotten. Not a bad game but clearly had no support. Crossworlds looks like it has more money, and clearly is trying for a bigger impact. So I’m hopeful they can pull it off.

Lego Voyagers looks like a very cute co-op puzzle platformer. Any interest @TheChicken?

The other thing I wanted to talk about was Killer Inn. If you were watching the trailer, you might have gotten a sense of deja vu? “Isn’t this similar to another game?” And indeed, this is very similar to Trouble in Terrorist Town gamemode in Garry’s Mode, as well as other things I’m sure.

Basically, 24 players are on a map. 16 are put on the Sheep, the other 8 on the Wolves. Sheep do not know who is on the Wolves. Each team is tasked with eliminating the other. The Sheep can use clues on dead bodies to help identify Wolves who have killed. The Sheep can also try to win the game by triggering the escape boat.

I like this sortof thing. I do question the balance though, I feel like the Wolves have too many on their side. Even making it like 6 Wolves vs 18 Sheep would be better I feel. Wolves can just group together and take out a bunch of people in one area surely? I also question how long games are meant to last? Sounds like they want rounds to be at least over 10 minutes. I think it depends on how easy it is to access stuff like guns and bombs.

I’ve signed up for the open beta, so hopefully will get a chance to try this in the future. I think it does have potential.

Well, it’s nice to at least know for sure that the Persona 4 remake is happening. Shame the trailer shows off very little, aside from a rather jarring bit of gameplay that looks like it’s come from an early tech demo. I don’t really have much to say, other than wondering why they chose “Revival” as the sub-title. I’ll probably get more hyped and interested once they show off something more substanial. Guessing it’s going to be at least a year until release.

Double Fine is one of the best developers out there in my opinion. This looks weird and I want it.

Clockwork Revolution looks like my shit!

Hopefully it is more Bioshock and less Atomic Heart (great visual ideas, played extremely frustratingly to the point I gave up halfway through).

Black Ops 7.

Arguably one of the most compelling trailers this series has had in awhile.

Plus COOP campaign and what looks to be transit at the end of the trailer.
