My hatred for Absolution is well documented on HMF, but I can’t deny that I am very happy it exists if only because we got the absolutely goddamned amazing Literal Trailer video from Tobuscus, which recently popped up in my YouTube feed for the first time in many years.
Was running out of things to do in WoA, so I decided to try one of the older games. Got a message Blood Money may not work correctly on my Xbox, so I went with Absolution.
I’m enjoying it. It’s nice to have new maps. I’m shocked by how linear it is, I’m guessing that was a turnoff for many Hitman fans. But I don’t mind it. Just finished Welcome to Hope, and I’m about to get my Silverballers back.
Glad I spent $20 to get this game.
It’s a fun game. The Instinct system and how disguises work with it sucks, but most of the rest is a good game. The linearity is definitely an issue for a lot of fans - apparently they’ve forgotten how the first two games were. Others have issue with the game over its content having problematic themes - I don’t even know what they’re talking about on that one. In some ways, Absolution has the edge over WoA because you can effortlessly switch between dual wielding and single wield with handguns, can add and remove the silencers at will, can use human shield, point shooting status, melee weapons such as wrenches and crowbars are lethal if used to strike an NPC, and the neck break actually looks and sounds like the neck is breaking.
The neck break with the police baton is just… chefs kiss
Say what you will about Absolution, it´s got the best melee kills (and shooting) in the series.
Contrary, it was a turnon for many fans, I guess.
I’m not alone in the boat my feelings say.
And I tell you more.
I don’t like older games. Absolution onwards are my favorites
I don’t mind the linear nature. I also like sandbox games. Absolution is much more like another Square Enix game I liked, Thief (which I hear longtime Thief fans didn’t like because it was linear).
For me Absolution is mediocre. Not truly bad, because it has quite a few cool things about it, but due to the broken disguise system that’s reliant on instinct, so 47 can have enough brain power to scratch his head, is ultimately not decent.
It’s not even just because it’s a Hitman game. Any stealth game that had a social stealth/disguise system that’s as fundamentally flawed as this one would be stuck being mediocre.
One other more minor thing that is annoying, is that you also lose points for knocking out npcs, regardless if they get found or not. Absolution is literally the only game in the series that managed to somehow mess up it’s scoring system.
