The thing is, this takes away a lot of the ammo Trump’s people had, as well as those who wanted to sit out the election because they didn’t like Biden personally or didn’t like that the democrats weren’t even having a real primary and selecting him automatically. This could be a boon or a disaster. People still hate Trump, there’s now gonna be a fresh face, even Kamala counts as that, and recent polls have suggested that the party could rally around and win with Harris, Warren, and a few others. So we’ll see indeed. ---

I think that he resigned is the right decision, even if it’s sad, because I think Biden is a good politician. I just don’t think he’s capable of taking on a madman like Trump. I hope that, should she be nominated, Kamala Harris is more capable of doing so and that in the remaining four months she can convince the voters not only of herself but also of the danger Trump poses to the American people. ---

I don’t think Biden had a chance anymore. I just wonder who the democrat with the highest chance could be who also would be up for the job? Isn’t Harris one of the less popular out there? ---

To be pedantic, Joe Biden is not resigning. He is dropping out of the presidential race. His record is solid and in a policy matchup he easily beats Trump. The problem is that more and more voters across the country have been annoyed with the dems because they felt a very imperfect candidate was being forced on them. Harris is more than capable of destroying Trump. I am unsure, but hopeful. ---

The assassination attempt has changed nothing. Not on either side. Its almost humorous how much everyone tried to predict what might happen after, but now a week later, the only change is that Biden dropped out, and I don’t think that’s related. ---

Biden should resign just so Kamala Harris would be the 47th President instead of Trump. Seriously, though, if Biden is no longer capable of running for re-election, he’s arguably no longer capable of serving as President. It is in America’s best interest and his own that he resign from the presidency and let Harris take over. The thing is, Biden is _not_ unfit. Not where things are now. And he’ll last to the end of his term. The issue is, would he make it another four years? 🤷‍♂️ Maybe. But _every_ president has always looked and/or acted noticeably older when they leave office, even those who didn’t leave it alive. Biden has aged more than he would in four years and is even slower and more tired than he was then. So the concern he’d even make it and not start making _real_ mistakes (Gaza aside) is legit, and that’s why people asked for him to step aside. He’s not gonna resign, he doesn’t have to, and he shouldn’t. Not for those reasons anyway. ---

Republicans are nothing if not craven opportunists so of course they’re immediately trying to change the narrative and calling on Biden to resign. Truth is they’re afraid, so they’re shooting in the dark at whatever they can. Not wanting to run for president is not the same thing as not being able to currently do the job. ---

It’s just over a 100 days until November 5th, I would certainly hope the Democrats leadership content would be kept relatively brief. Considering the, what, 2 dozen or so candidates vying for leadership back in 2020, only a few proper serious candidates emerge and someone is chosen quickly. ---

One slightly funny point I’ve seen made is that Biden was 77 when the 2020 election happened. Trump is already 78 and Kamala Harris will of just turned 60 when the election happens this year. Will be interesting to see if the media will harp on Trump’s age much now that it is obvious he is very much the old man of the contest, but unless he makes a massive blunder, I imagine a lot of outlets will be a lot more quiet about it than Biden. Shocking to think though that Obama is only 3 years older than Harris, he was _only_ 47 when he was elected. Seems like a very young man in comparison, and I think his 2008 presidential campaign really had that youthful vigour. That debate between Biden and Trump is going to go down in history though isn’t it? It basically killed off Biden’s re-election campaign by itself. I think it makes for an interesting parallel between that debate and the famous one of JFK and Nixon, how much optics can matter so much.
