I am kind of interested in how Paxton intends to play the Christian family values card going up against an actual man of the cloth.
Like will Talarico start speak Aramaic and then Paxton will burst into sulfuric hellfire?

I assume Paxy will rely on the tried-and-true tactics of transphobia and fawning over Trump.
Eat your heart out, Reddit.
Meanwhile Lt Governor Burt Jones and some businessman named Rick Jackson entered a runoff for the Republican primaries for Governor.
Oh, and JFK advanced to the runoff for primaries for Lt. Governor.
Good for him, not letting death stand in the way of his ambitions.
This is why you don’t leave long guns chamber loaded even if they have safeties, even in storage. They’re not designed to be drop safe and the dog easily could’ve asserted enough force for the gun to go off even without a trigger pull. Also even in the US, what this guy did was illegal (loaded long gun in a vehicle) and irresponsible of a gun owner. Luckily it was only a wound to the arm and nothing fatal, but they’re not off the legality hook.
Reminds me of a scene from that dreadful sad movie The Plague Dogs.
It’s only a misdemeanor in that state. $50 fine min and 3 months sentence in lockup (so you’d do 45 days) max.
But you’re correct in that it is horrendously stupid to have a loaded shotgun in a car.
A misdemanour with a fifty dollar fine and three months imprisonment? In my country you can get as much get a 40,000 dollars or four years in jail in you are found to not have a gun like an actual shotgun properly secured.
It’s the US, we treat our guns better than our children here, and the proof is that we often use the one to decrease the number of the other.
Yeah but at some point you have to pretend to give a shit about having rules and laws and the very basics of a society. You can’t just make the fine for a crime be a fucking pocket money total and three months-ish in the county lockup.
(shakes head) My man, I don’t think even now you truly comprehend just how hopeless (in every sense of the word) Americans are.
$50 min fine. Max penalty is the full imprisonment term. So there is a wide road of options between the sentencing guidelines.
@Accidental_Kills98 guns are protected here Mano. Even in California carrying a firearm without a licence is just a misdemeanor if it’s a first time issue. Max penalty = fine up to $1000 and/or jail time up to 1 year. Likely you’d just pay a fine.
The firewall against the AfD seems to slowly be weakening. FDP in an attempt to revive its political fortunes after a major defeat losing all seats in the federal & multiple state elections seems to be moving to the right & opening up to motions passing with AfD votes. Something that got Merz into controversy a while back when the CDU/CSU voted together on a motion with the AfD.
That and current polling in Germany makes it look like hopes of the Grand Coalition being successful seems unlikely now. If a CDU/CSU & SPD coalition can’t work then adding the Greens or Left on top of that will probably only add more fire to the chaos. If snap elections are called the most likely result is the far-right getting first place. Though after that it’s really dependent on what the CDU/CSU does. If they break down the firewall it would open up the ability for the far-right to finally govern. Or if they maintain the firewall they would likely be reviving the same Grand Coalition but with the Green and/or Linke being added on top of it.
Worth noting that Merz is currently extremely unpopular with diplomatic missteps and very few think he can solve the countries problems. The AfD is very close to an absolute majority in one of our states, Saxony-Anhalt. Depending on to which direction the scale tips, we will have our first AfD-led state government which will surely influence what will happen nationwide.
I hope that before CDU/CSU considers to govern with the AfD, we will try a minority government in whatever configuration except someone else than Merz.
Ideally, if AfD wins Saxony-Anhalt in September, they finally have their opportunity to prove that they are in no way better than the other parties to fulfill their promises, hopefully resulting in their decline.
One can hope if the AfD gets the power, they will run into same problems like the current administration and that before. Showing that the far-right isn’t suited for governing, like in other European countries.
I’m very pro a strong EU and this is not the time where we should be divided and become Isolationist.
That’s what ended up happening in the Netherlands. When you’re blocked from being part of the governing process it’s easy to attack all other political party’s and position yourself as the wave of change to make politics better. When Wilders and his PVV won in a surprising victory in 2023 they surged to 32-33% in polls. But as people began to see the chaos of the Schoof cabinet unfold people quickly lost faith in the PVV. Then they lost the 2025 election are back in the opposition and are polling at 12% nationally. I think the AfD will probably end up in power on some state level or maybe even national at some point. But once they have to prove there ability to govern I wouldn’t be shocked if the momentum they currently are riding starts grinding to a halt.
Come the fuck on, Carney. No one wants this. Ugh.

Creating quarter of a million jobs working on a device to eliminate millions of jobs, including their own.
Never before have I seen so many pour so much into something that currently gives so little, but promises everything.
The 2024 presidential election comes to mind on that.
