General News 1.0

The Company’s statement goes on about how they want to focus on the content that has had a surge popularity that being things like workout routines, cooking, drawing, etc. I don’t know how true the claim is, but the general reaction from this is that since Onlyfans is more known for its sexual content to the point where it feels like a stigma attached to the company that this new rule being implemented will “ruin” the company.

Onlyfans statements about the rule are a little confusing since they state that they are prohibiting sexual content they are still allowing nudity as long as it follows their guidelines and what they deem is appropriate.

My prediction is content creators that use the site to sell their sexual content will move to alternative sites like Patreon since the rules are vague in terms of Onlyfans.

Well I say good luck to them with that. Because I’ve heard Patreon has been cracking down more and more on sexual content recently as well.

This . I’m assuming with companies cracking down on this alternatives will always exist.

The rules on Patreon are more clear. While they are subject to change like anything. Their rules say they allow nudity on their site as long as it’s not used to fund pornography i/e creators can provide sexual content as perks for subscribing to something like a $20 monthly tier subscription but can’t have tiers for something like I don’t know making Super Horneo Bros 3 or something?

the onlyfans debacle is off the back of exodus cry campaigning.

they’re (i believe) a right-wing religious group with ties to a homophobic megachurch, whose stated aim is to end sex trafficking (cool), though it seems more like they want to end the porn industry and sex work (not so cool).

the rules they’ve helped put in place (think about that whole mastercard/pornhub fiasco a while back) have done little to stop sex slavery/trafficking and just made legitimate sex work harder and much less safe.

old vice article here.

Visa/Mastercard have been operating off outdated rules and following a trend of only ever tightening them, never adjusting them for decades now.

The original rules were put in place back when pornography as a socially embarrassing thing to consume, and so common scams were to set up “discreet” porn sites that would automatically subscribe you to dozens more, never let you unsubscribe etc. Many of these scam sites used stolen content.

In a very real way, pornography both paid for the Internet’s development in the first five years, and also created the problems that led to modern online transaction regulations. There was even a (bad) movie about it in 2010 (which led to hilarious exposure of the showrunner as being the embezzling scam artist he claimed his business partners had been)

Unfortunately, even though now we all openly consume pornography the “safe” campaign for politicians is to pass tighter regulations that focus on imaginary victims (rather than real ones) since it:

  1. Makes them look heroic for standing up to this unbelievably (literally) evil enemy.
  2. Makes many companies feel good for their widely outdated “family friendly” rules that exist largely due to the social disconnect between Old Money Evangelism and the regular people.
  3. Makes other companies happy because putting the squeeze on smaller creators mitigates their competition and often forces these creators to partner with them.

MindGeek, the owners of Pornhub are a particularly shady organization in this respect in that they essentially consumed huge parts of the industry quietly and like YouTube, they are both a rare venue for independent sex workers - and also nearly impossible to make a living off due to the saturation of competition.

One of the big things with OnlyFans though is that they recently looked at floating shares and didn’t get the valuation price they were hoping for - so they’ll have received the same professional advice SnapChat/Tumblr did of lowering overheads and “increasing traffic” via pivoting into family friend content over multiple steps. It’s the exact same pivot that Patreon did after taking on a pile of Venture Capital money and being put into the hands of “experts”.

While the anti-trafficking protestors draw attention outside, the outdated old money with staunch values and outdated understanding of the market propose “winning” ideas in meeting rooms and over conference calls. There’s a good change that the heads of OnlyFans are making this decision purely off the projections graph that tells them they’ll be able to buy their fourth yacht next year if the do this.

Unfortunately for sex workers though, it means they’re all going to have to pivot to yet another platform and hope that they quickly find one where they can actually make some money.

thanks for putting that together. a good (and somewhat depressing) read.

and that seems like where every decision comes from.

Slightly old news, but nonetheless news.

It’s amazing how the Park where corporate is based they are the less strict with how they run things. While yes this is an accident, this could of potentially been avoided with a deep daily inspection the ride by maintenance who specialize in Amusement Park rides.

Unbelievable that we are still having this fight in the US, and in the rest of the world I have noticed there is little or sometimes no precaution taken. Just put the damn barriers in. Oh you’re a busy agency with many things to? Let the union write the regulation then. No one wants a 9/11 2, not here or anywhere else.

That’s right. The FDA has to remind the American people that they are, in fact, not livestock.

Who is this man and why has he replaced Donald Trump?

This is nice and it should be done but you will never convince me this is a way for the Liberal party to spite China. I know the Greens and Labour are doing this because it is right.

For what it is worth she would (possibly) be an LBGT+ interment as well.

China and literally any competitor to an industry with a strong enough lobby.

Also wouldn’t put it past them to try to employ it for political reasons at the quiet request of the Australian Christian Lobby.

"Sorry, we have been anonymously but credibly advised all porn, all non-Christian friendly video games, all books about LGBTQ youth and all non-Christian religious icons were made under duress. "

Well this election has certainly had some surprises. I never expected the leader of the literal Conservative Party to support safe injection sites and worker representation on boards of federally regulated companies.

Yes this is weird, this i what is supposed to be done to tackle an opioid crisis. usually conservatives don’t do the smart thing. In fact I find it all very hard to believe.

Social conservatism isn’t even that big here, but O’Toole is practically a liberal on many social areas. Said he was pro-choice just a few days ago.

Even on his last day, he still won’t acknowledge what he did.

Americans have switched from chugging aquarium cleaner to popping livestock de-worming drugs. These people will call you the sheep for trusting medical science.

Someone on the Twitter thread said it best “If breathing wasn’t automatic half of us would be dead already”.

“Corporate elites”

O’Toole is seriously starting to sound more like a Dipper than a Tory.

The MB PC leadership election is being held on Oct. 30th.

The party is trailing in polls to the NDP rn though. Going to be a tough sell from whoever the new premier is.
