That looks good to me, no issues with shadows from the lighting, and it’s got good textures. Will there be more levels to it or is this mostly complete? The tile I mean
Most things will be left stock, I’ve hi-res texture sources for 90-95% of Gontranno so I’ll be using them along with their respective bump maps, a lot of Hitman 2’s original textures actually came with bump maps on the texture discs they used, the only meshes I’m really remastering is the banisters I showed, and the benches, the entire “underground tunnel” was remodelled with quads instead of triangles but looks pretty much the same as the original just cleaner with no z fighting in the corners lol
Below is a screenshot of the discs IOI used in H2 with their bump maps included
I had no idea IO’s texture photos were so detailed back then. Also, what is Chicago style brickwork
maybe that’s a question for @Yacob
It’s just the names the files and images were given on they texture discs they bought/acquired
They used tons of CD’s
Look at them rich wooden colors! Makes me want to replay H2 now
I’m obsessed with Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
obviously lol
The bricks get laid down same as anywhere else, but they look different in that the colour of the bricks is not uniform. Directly after the Great Chicago Fire (1871) we went from basically zero fire code laws to everything having to be made from brick so another great Chicago fire couldn’t happen. With 3/4 the city needing to be rebuilt and the new brick rule the demand for bricks skyrocketed. The brick producers couldn’t keep up so they started using any clay they could get their hands on. This resulted in bricks that are not uniform in colour. Some are a bit yellow and some are a bit pink while most are still that traditional red you’re used to seeing. At first people said the inconsistency was ugly, but with time people grew to like it, and even today there are people who are having a brick house or a brick wall put in and ask for it to be Chicago style.
Oh wow there’s an actual reason for it! So many things seem to be unique to Chicago, with Chicago style variants on a bunch of stuff. It’s like the city grew separately from the rest of the United States (which ironic, given how connected it is by rail)
Yes there is a reason for it lol. It’s funny bc back in the 1870s the wealthy would pay more to not have the ugly mixed up brick colours or maybe they would use that only for interior and side walls. The front of the house would still be uniformed. Fast forward 150 years and now people pay more for the Chicago look and there are even companies that reclaim old walls and slice them into many thinner sections so they can sell a sort of wall vaneer made out of the original bricks for a true old school look. Also, like anything else in the modern age, you can get a cheaper faux version of that too.
How did it get to Italy?! ![]()
Maaaaaybe some Sicilian immigrants brought it back to the island after returning from the US? Though with the Italian unification and then the rise of Mussolini, returning to Sicily wasn’t as popular as fleeing it.
Coincidentally, I’m working on a name for a Chicagoan character and given they’ve got the accent, I’m trying to craft a quintessentially ‘Chicagoan sound’
The Worlds Columbian Exposition. It was a giant world’s fair celebrating the 400th anniversary of Columbus discovering America. People came from all over. We had it May to Oct in 1893 and we had all these new buildings with a distinctly less polished look (and also the faux white buildings at the center of the fair lol)
Well the angel stained glass in the church is actually located in Michigan so it’s not the first thing from the US ![]()
Ah here it is, knew I had the link somewhere:
This brings back memories, I had made a 1:1 replica of Gontranno Sanctuary in UE4/5 a long time back. But i never uploaded any project updates on youtube, lost all the files/ data as my system got corrupted. Wishing you the best to bring this vision to life! ![]()
Beautiful.
Very ill lately so it’s on hold ![]()
