Hitman 2 content is crashing on Phenom 2 CPUs

…while Hitman 2016 legacy content and Sniper Assassin work fine.

When attempting to play Hitman 2 content, the game loads as normal after planning, then when loading finishes and and the game is about to transition to ‘gameplay’, the game crashes to desktop. Have seen similar behavior with other games that compiled their game such that it required modern SSE instructions that this CPU family doesn’t support, because they’re circa 2010.

It would be one thing to say you’re not supporting older CPUs below a certain generation, but the Phenom 2 is literally listed as the minimum specs, so it’s quite frustrating to have a literal game-breaking bug like this on day one.

Win7 x64, Phenom II X6 1090T, AMD R9 290…

+1, I previously posted on the steam forums as well as here that none of the new Hitman 2 levels are loading for me, legacy content works without any hitches so far.

A response from a IOI member would do wonders to salvage their reputation with me at this point. The fact that this issue seems to be tied to the most invasive anti-consumer DRM really puts a bad taste in my mouth. I’ve supported IOI throughout the years, owning every title up to this point and never have I felt even the slightest twinge of regret until now. Please, please, please guys, you have to just come out and say there is a fix planned or at the very least come and say there’s no fix in the works and you are raising the minimum specs to reflect that the Phenom II’s aren’t going to cut it for Hitman 2. This radio silence is killing me.

Hey guys!

Thanks for your reports we really appreciate it! This has been flagged, and the team is looking into this issue.

Thank you so much for the report! Been loving playing through the Legacy Pack, just finished up getting 20 mastery on all the levels and picking up that sleek All-Black suit. Hungry to get into that new content!

Thanks for the acknowledgement! Can’t wait to finally start Hitman 2!! Hopefully it is a quick fix.

I hope this gets patched real soon. I have the Gold Edition and haven’t been able to make any use of the 4 day early access at all.
Only a few days left to the 1st Elusive Target and I hope we don’t miss that one due to being unable to play the game, as well.

Good to see this finally acknowledged by IOI. I hope there is a quick fix like orher games have done before.
WB support also aknowledged this by email so thanks for that also.

Still it is really unacceptable to treat your customers like that on behalf of pirates.
People paid 90 dollars for a game within their specs and got locked out for days instead!

I don’t have a Phenom, but I do have an AMD processor and I’m running into exactly the same problem, so my specs might be helpful to the devs trying to debug this.
CPU: AMD Athlon X4 860K
GPU: Nvidia GTX 780
16 gigs of RAM, Windows 10.

I can play the season 1 missions fine, but the season 2 missions crash after attempting to start the level. Cheers, and thanks.

Hi!

Just to clear things up it is not Denuvos fault.

I know because its my code that is causing the crash. I’m sorry for causing you to wait - Please be rest assured that this will be fixed as soon as possible.

Hi Jonas, thanks for the follow-up, and being straight-forward enough to own the issue. I know better than to ask for a specific timeline, so I’ll just be waiting patiently and hoping it’s all sorted out before old Mr. Bean makes his escape

Thanks again, this has been a point of stress since the 8th! I’ll edit my post to get rid of Denuvo blame and frustrated complaining, no need to conflate the issue.

Heres some more details:

One of the things we added for Season 2 was a software rasterizer to aid in culling objects that are not visible.
The code we based it on used a few(3!) instructions categorized under SSE4.1. Phenom only supports SSE3.

The reason it does not crash on Season 1 & Sniper challenge is that those levels use the previous occlusion system, which means never runs the code that is incompatible with Phenom.
