Hitman Maps Review

Criticize Hitman maps!!! No ranking is required, just choose one or more maps you like and write down their pros and cons and summarize them. Discussions with each other are also allowed.

Marakesh sucks ass. Not only it is a half baked map, playing it is so boring: there is only one repetive route to everywhere, from school to consulate, there are 1.5 interesting mission stories

At least lore is kinda interesting, but come on, go on full board with “eat the rich” at least!

My thoughts on Bangkok, the least good map in WoA imo:

Pros:

  • I love its easter eggs, especially the giant cockroach.
  • Jordan Cross is a great target, and I really like his characterization and backstory.
  • Are We Stars is a good piece of music and I love it gets brought back in some later maps
  • SASO is one of the toughest in the trilogy but damn it feels satisfying to pull off.
  • I love details like the stalker sneaking around, Jackie Carrington giving you her room key, or how Mrs. Mookjai can see through all the hotel disguises but not the non-hotel ones.
  • The Casual Suit with Gloves is a fairly simple suit but it’s one of my favorite level suits.

Favorite Kill opportunities:

  • Branson MD-2 - It’s fun mixing the music tracks and it’s a brand new kill for this mission, not reused like it was in later missions
  • Oops I did it again - It’s always great when there’s a way to make one target kill another
  • Abel de Silva’s meeting - It’s cool to see 47’s musical talents, and it’s also fun to push Jordan over the balcony onto the glass.

Cons:

  • The map isn’t very immersive to the setting. Sapienza has a lovely Mediterranean coastline and a Catholic church, plus Mario and Luigi the most well known Italians out there. Mumbai is a bustling and densely crowded city with a Bollywood movie shoot. Mendoza is a huge winery that features an asado cook and tango musicians. With Bangkok, there is very little in the map that makes me think of Thailand, with a few changes you could reasonably set the hotel anywhere in the world. I know this comes from the fact parts of the map were originally meant for Paris, but they could have done a lot more with the setting.
  • The hotel itself is quite bland. No pool, no fitness center, no rooftop bar, the only real amenity it has is the restaurant. The temple in the distance, the beach to the side, and the jungle to the back look more interesting to explore than the level itself (and they’d be a better showcase of Thailand too).
  • Ken Morgan is a dull target, and even his mission stories are boring compared to Jordan’s. Cleaning a room, what fun!
  • There’s so much empty and wasted space in the map, even though it’s not that big. There’s a bunch of hotel rooms but only a few of them really have a use. At least on Whittleton Creek all of the reused houses had some different purpose to them.
  • There’s a huge lack of places to hide bodies. I get that they were wanting to make it tougher compared to earlier maps, but they went a bit overboard. They couldn’t even put a closet in 47’s room?

Overall I’d give it a 7/10. It’s a shame cause there is some fun stuff in the map, but overall it’s just meh/boring to me, and it’s one of my least picked maps in Freelancer. What doesn’t help is that it got three ET missions, but none of them are very good.

I think, a mix of Bangkok and Haven Island would have made for a pretty great map. Haven has all the hotel bonus stuff in it, but not the hotel itself, while Bangkok has the hotel but nothing else. Combine those two and you get a good map with a lot to explore.

The stupidest thing in Bangkok for me is, that you can’t even get to the ground on the backside of the hotel 47 hangs on a drain pipe a few inches above ground, but is not able to get down there. For that, the map always made the impression of being unfinished to me. At the very least, it left potential unrealized.

Isle of sgail :

My story:
The first time I entered this map; I got lost; because of its very large and mysterious space; because of its very scary music; everything was scary and mysterious and the map was very intricately designed; and well, I got lost.
After many minutes, I finally found my first target; Sophia Washington; I followed her and realized two things: 1- The target’s path was very difficult 2- I had to create the killing position myself; my target wasn’t going anywhere to be killed; I had to find the right spot myself.
I thought this was ridiculous; but after a few minutes of looking around the map, I came up with a very creative way to kill Sophiapeda; and boom; I had succeeded; I went to the second target and saw Edward; I liked the color blue.
I also found Zoey and realized that this path also requires creativity and I killed her in an interesting way; and I went towards Edward and exited.

Positive points:
1- A very complex map (one could say the most complex map)
2- A masterpiece of music that fits the atmosphere.
3- A very artistic atmosphere and a very accurate simulation of a Masonic party.
4- Many secrets that you will have to play this level over and over again to discover.
5- Indescribable excitement about what is happening.
6- The first stage with creative gameplay (protecting a person)
7- Nowhere is off the map, and every part of the map is related to the mission; or at least there is a secret hidden in it.
8- High difficulty; it’s pleasing to professional Hitman players and exactly what they want. It’s very difficult, which is interesting for a professional Hitman player (after Colorado, this is the hardest map.)
9- Mission story: Very attractive, beautifully designed, and very related to the Freemasonry space.

Negatives: There is only one negative point about this masterpiece map; the path to the objectives is not well designed, which is intentional and to make the map more difficult; the path to the objectives is good, but it could have been designed much better.

Final notes: This map may seem like hell to you at first, but you gradually become attracted to it; you look for the secrets of the game; and you try to understand what exactly is going on on this island of Kofti; everything is designed perfectly; complex paths that you can implement very amazing ideas on; the sound and lighting make the game look terribly real and scary; and well… everything is great.
