Okay had time to replay A Personal Contract to Terminus so here’s

My thoughts on A Personal Contract

It does a good job of slowly revealing the systems, especially the new instinct system. It is often quite narrow and linear in certain parts but I think it opens up when tutorialising/testing a relevant skill. Such as after the tennis pitch you should have all the skills you need to effectively sneak past guards so the map opens up a bit and lets you test in a more varied way.

The scoring system is also only enabled for the ground floor of the mansion piece which I think helps to avoid enforcing the idea that certain things/actions are inherently negative (a problem Absolution has as a whole with negative points). This is especially true for the greenhouse section as there really is no other practical choice but to take a disguise at that point, it’s telling you “this game needs disguises! Learn that now”.

The main meat of the contract (the ground floor mansion) is a fairly small but just varied enough mission. You can use the blinds or poison the coffee or use thrown distractions. It doesn’t overwhelm you with choice but gives you enough of broad choices to give you a feel of the game. I wish there was more of an incentive to pick a guard disguise over your suit though

Overall the main weakness of this mission is building any sort of feelings towards talking out Diana, you handler. After the mansion piece you get stuck in a corridor and Travis talks to you as you walk menacingly towards Diana’s bathroom. It just fails to spark any emotion for something that should be overflowing with it. If you want a good example of “Linear mission with one target at the end you have feelings about” I suggest Romania in H3 (although anger/hatred is an easier emotion to conjure in media than sadness/regret)

Overall it’s pretty good at what it’s aiming for and the meatier non-tutorial part of it holds up well (enough to get a call back in H3 at least)
