iO, please add saving in Escalations (and Bonus Missions, Contracts etc)

Doesn’t really matter what I agree with or not. I don’t make the decisions.

Really late update, but I found something interesting.

In an interview about the first Hitman game, Jacob Anderson said this:
“We didn’t consider a save game option. On consoles at the time, you were just given a code that would allow you to skip levels that you had already completed.”

So, starting with the sequel, iO was aware of saving systems and used them in one way or another. But as you can see from this quote, not being able to save from the very beginning of the franchise had never been a choice of challenge or difficulty.
Thought that was a big point.

Are you…using logic from 20+ years ago in a modern context? Because that is very misleading.

Videogames have changed so much since 1998 that this quote is borderline irrelevant to anything concerning Hitman 3, letalone Hitman 2016. Escalations are not the main game; they are side mission – extra content made up of base-game assets for the most part, where the lack of saving is part of the challenge. These are shorter experiences than the base game, so adding saving is just gonna break the mode in half.

For something like Wrath or Lust, I can at least understand wanting saves to be enabled as those are longer by their design, but those came about when the escalation formula was standardised.

No, it’s not about old logic. It is just about the argument of not being able to save was “an idea because of difficulty, even in the very first entry!” and clarifying that this is not the case. Of course, ideas and context have changed massively, this is just about “original intents”

(This post was not meant to change everything because I found some hidden detail. Just a side note I found fitting)

Still, a comment on your post: Not being able to save does not only concearn Escalations. It also happens for special assignements like christmas for example

It’s a very tenous connection, I gotta say.

This only happens for Holiday Hoarders (likely because it was originally time-limited and IO just forgot to re-enable the ability to save, so yeah, I can understand being a little peeved at that). The other special assignments allow saving however; Here’s A Bitter Pill for example:

Worse, unless I’m completely misremembering it did allow saves in H2, but doesn’t now in H3/WoA.

Yeah, I recall it being able to allow saves in H2 also.
