No no, it’s all good. I read some of thread again and realised I was on a bit of an unreasonable track. There was no reason for an angry response.

The only thing that I find broken about it is the shooting it with darts aspect. Once that’s patched I think it won’t be too bad, definitely a usable item rather than a lot of inventory items that are simply never worth it to use outside of like roleplaying or contract conditions

Atrioc came out with a speedrun video a while back in Paris launching a explosive device with a breaching charge right from the entrance over the palace and on the other side on top of the roof just above the chandelier, blasting it to fall right on Dalia from the outside…

Splendid.

I’m 99.9% sure that atrioc didn’t come up with the bomb launch strat, he just started using it when it became “the” strat for Paris.

It takes away the purpose of getting to targets.

Jordan Cross example, if you truly wish to achieve SA/SO you should have to get up to the penthouse.

I did and tossed his body over the balcony after taking him out in the recording booth.

Why? If your only goal is to get that particular rank, then doing it any way that achieves it is viable. Throwing something clear across the map can be absolutely a workable strategy. Is it fun? Maybe not. Does it work? Perhaps.

I say that knowing at the same time that I also say that I don’t personally think that launching objects across the map with an explosive is legitimate (in that it isn’t the way the developers intended), but it doesn’t make it less of a successful strategy if your only goal is getting the Silent Assassin ranking (Suit Only isn’t a rank - just a score consideration, and one that is worth less than using a disguise).

Well yes but that’s kinda part of the fun for such strategies. I mean it’s not as if such gameplay would be our daily casual routine

Why impose such a strange, arbitrary constraint in the first place? 🤔
Also, I did this with 2016 Bangkok; I quite frankly couldn’t bring myself to repeat the same tedium procedure in H3 and just golfed Cross and dropped something on the Brick.

That is a paradox of game design.

> [@VRO3886](#):
>
> WTF is this “free kill” being spoken of? Relatively menial as they may be, both the Molotov and E-Phone still require setups of their own, meaning they necessarily aren’t “free”.

The Molotov has far too many restrictions to be used in a suit, and actively requires knowledge of how it works (and a prayers to the Hitman gods that it doesn’t just explode), as well as where to use it. You can’t just lump up “it does an accident kill” weapons and be done with it, that’s misleading as all hell reckless in debates like this. It’s essentially cherrypicking.

> [@VRO3886](#):
>
> Give me 3 coins, a few shoulder bumps, and a lethal syringe and I’ll show you an amount of cheese that’ll make you consider the Molotov and E-Phone about as “free” as a tank of gas.

Yes, that is not a “free” kill, by any definition people have laid out on here. That requires knowledge of how the AI works, how sightcones work, and where to do it. That’s, if anything, requires skill to pull off, skill that most players won’t have, even if it is a little cheesey. That’s the right kind of cheese though; It requires effort to do.

> [@VRO3886](#):

> You fundamentally change nothing for yourself (as you weren’t using them to begin with) and only impose your inane play style beliefs on other players to their detriment.

You are your own worst enemy. And come on, you know full well IOI balances items based on what people do with them. They did this with Sedatives, Breaching charges, Lockpicks and Fire Extinguishers, and probably more.

I think people can see why I muted this thread now…

I literally went 5 days not looking at this thread. I only came on here out of curiosity to see if anything had changed, and lo and behold, it’s the same cyclic discussion that people are getting sick of.

> [@Heisenberg](#):
>
> Just as you could just _not_ use the “unbalanced”/“over-powered” items.

You know **full well** that’s not what players do. Stop saying this as if it’s a valid argument to counter it. People _have_ historically used these items, regardless of specific peoples’ preferences, and have
and will continue to share these tactics around to get easy kills, which proliferates among players via Youtube and guides, going down the chain of skill levels to the point where it needs to be addressed by the developers. This is what happened with Breaching Charges (which changed from 2 to 1) and Fire Extinguishers (which were made non-lethal). You don’t balance any game by ignoring the problems inherent to its design. That makes it badly balanced, and no game should **ever** become that.

_And that’s before we get to this trilogy’s restrictive ratings system…_

> [@Heisenberg](#):
>
> I’m sensing, and forgive me if I’m wrong, that this isn’t so much a gaming preference issue but an aspect of your overall psyche. I should know, I’ve got a similar issue, it just puts me on the opposite side.

Forgive me for my bluntness, but please don’t profile me like that.

I tried being pretty reasonable on here, but it’s so obvious that the people who want to see the molotov, or any perceived unbalanced weapon, as unbalanced are going to continue to do so, and no forum thread or comment will ever change their minds.

This is how discussions like this become problematic and need to be put down to die; nobody giving or taking an inch and nobody learning anything about others. That’s why I left this thread, and many others like it. Not because of disagreements, but the discussion hit brick walls no party was willing to go over or break down.

On a similar note, this is why I don’t follow Doctor Who very much anymore.

I call @Urben to lock this thread; nothing good can come of continuing it.

It is though.

I don’t care what other players do. I don’t care if another player plays every map exactly one time and then uninstalls the game. I don’t care if another player watches a YouTube video of the “perfect SA/SONKO run” and then only uses that exact strategy. I don’t care if another player never manages to attain the Silent Assassin rating. I don’t care if there are zero walkthrough videos that don’t use so-called unbalanced items. None of those things matter to how _I_ play the game.

That’s the point. A game like this has some percentage of players who will never use an item like the Molotov because they think it’s overpowered or unbalanced. There is some other percentage of players who actively ask for overpowered assault rifles and other ridiculous unlocks. I will play the game using whatever unlocks I wish to use and you will play the game using whatever unlocks you wish to use. It does NOT matter what some other player chooses to do with any given unlock.

So what if some other player uses an item counter to how you want it used? So what if some other player cheeses their way to Silent Assassin? So what if IOI puts in a way to get an “easy kill”? Who cares about YouTube guides? Who cares if players who are less skilled then you use an unlocked item in a way that you don’t like?

The Molotov and other items like it aren’t problems with the design of the game and don’t make the game “unbalanced” just because some players think that other players now have it too easy.

There you go, and that’s it exactly. This is _not_ a multiplayer game, this is _not_ a game of contests. If people are choosing to to compete with one another and somebody decided to ignore the rules of this agreed-upon competition and use an item that makes it so it affects that competition, then perhaps this is not the game for having such things.

That being said, and my OCD requiring me to respond to these things, I actually _am_ in agreement with @Dribbleondo that this is getting exhausting, and it’s unlikely that no further discussion of any new merits is likely to spring from this thread, so if a closure is needed, I second the motion.
