Japan, TRACKING HAYAMOTO (Mission #6) - Discussion Thread

Time to up the pace on these, lest I forget about them again! We have plenty of missions to get through, so let’s get going!

47 — This is Diana from the Agency. Nice work at the embassy — sorry to disturb your peace in Sicily, but we have another mission for you.

These are the details: our client wants you to eliminate Masahiro Hayamoto, a well-known arms dealer, who’s got an important missile guidance system.

However, we have no details on his secret hiding place. But his son, Masahiro Hayamoto Jr. and Tanaka Kusahana, a top leader of the Yakuza are having a business meeting at a known location.

It’s a pretty remote location, but still with tight security. Your objective is to plant an electronic tracking device in Hayamoto Jr., then eliminate him so his corpse will be brought to Hayamoto Sr.

Check the map — and watch out for the many yoyimbos guarding the meeting place. 47 — I repeat: Your objectives are to place a transmitter inside Hayamoto Jr. and then eliminate Hayamoto Jr.
- Mission Briefing

Objectives

  1. Assassinate Masahiro Hayamoto Jr.
  2. Plant a tracking device on Hayamoto Jr’s corpse.
  3. Escape the mansion.

What are your thoughts on this mission? Any good memories? Any bad ones? How do you normally approach it?

A little bit of a controversial mission this, as it’s hard to deny that the theming, general idea, and music is absolutely top notch.
… yet it’s one of my least favourite missions.

There’s a few reasons for this, but part of it is down to the starting area. There’s a lot of waiting around for a safe moment, and all these guards tend to be super sensitive. Get your disguise blown and they’ll home in on you. There’s also a few missed opportunities in the level too, such as not being able to serve the food yourself.

Still, even though this is probably my least favourite mission with a target in it, I still enjoy it. Top kill methods include planting the tracker in his meal and sniping him from the helicopter area, distracting him near the kitchen so he runs to you and you can slice his throat, and of course the quick method of making him come to you right at the start. There’s still some cool approaches to the stage, despite its problems.

Oh, and I really like how you can honk the car horn to distract a guard for an easy disguise!

So much stuff to like, even for a weaker stage like this!

Yeah this is one of the only missions I don’t love. There is just something clunky about it. I really really hate that it’s impossible to complete without 1 alert unless you skip the cutscene at the end. That is deeply horrid and horrific. If they just fixed that, it would be the greatest known mission of any game just kidding lol. But that is really annoying. At least you can still get SA with 1 alert, but I don’t think you can have an overall score of SA at the end if you have 1 alert though I would love to be wrong about that.

I will say I love the artwork for the loading screen, and this kicks off the Japan levels which I love overall. And it introduces the greatest CURRENTLY known song ever which is Japanese Mansion which rocks.

Here is my video for this one! I discovered a new way to witness the scene of Hayamoto receiving the sushi and eating it and dying back when I was making this one.

If they fix it together with 1 alert in Hidden Valley, 1 alert in Motorcade Interception, 1 must shot in basement killing and graveyard shift, lack of trees in at the gates then it will not be the same pain in the ass hitman as you love it

Hidden valley I can actually complete all zeroes you just have to sprint at the right time and place to disrupt the dumbguard’s pattern so he doesn’t get run over

There are people today who are able to bypass 1 shot in basement killing and graveyard shift but it doesn’t excuse stupid developers for excluding the smashing function of the axe.

I like it a lot. Once you learn the timing of the guards, it’s very easy to do SA/SO.

I like the idea behind the mission; Murdering the son and putting a tracker in his body to get the father’s location and how you basically can achieve both objectives by tampering with the target’s food. It’ very first time in the franchise that you kill a target by poisoning his food.

Sadly the disguises in the mission were pretty much useless because the guards saw through them almost immediately. At least it was justified by 47 not looking like a Japanese gang member. Still it felt like every level had the guards behave differently making it hard to figure things out.
