Yea they did release those films and none of us know why they aren’t releasing BatGirl. We only have what they say go by, but it seems to be a pretty lame reason so perhaps we shouldn’t take them at their word. Maybe they don’t want to do massive damage to the overall brand and it’s just that bad that they fear it would. Who knows?
They literally stated why they aren’t, you can see it above, Chicken even isolated the part where they say why Warner felt the need to cancel it.
And that excuse is so mercenary it is most likely the real reason. Just because it is lame doesn’t stop it from being the most true reason.
They should have thought about it earlier like when they let the dude who directed Watchmen direct a Superman film, the DCEU is still a huge punching bag and it won’t ever go away in any WB exec’s lifetime.
Also you know what is a bad look? Cancelling a film that is 90 percent done yet giving no word on the status of the film that stars a wanted child groomer who has several restraining orders.
Maybe but it is still awful for a lot of people that have had their work arbitrarily canned for such a stupid reason.
The two green highlighted parts go together. Why do you think I didn’t read the article and/or didn’t know the reason WB gave for shelving the project? It would be silly to say a reason given is lame when one doesn’t know what the reason given was in the first place.
firefly was gonna be the main villain, not killer moth.
also massive to see more dc projects go down the drain, as a massive fan of dc comics its a shame to see how terrible nearly every dc movie has been since the marvel cinematic universe.
Sure aquaman & shazam were fun. And The Batman Standalone movie was bloody fantastic. but most other stuff has been fucking abysmal. I wish theyd just do standalone movies without a universe and focus on the strengths of each character in their own universe again like The Batman
Yeah but you haven’t given any contrary evidence as to why you they would cancel the film. You have simply said it is too lame to be a genuine excuse and kind of done nothing else to illuminate what you think the genuine reason is.
WB have a track record of wanting to preserve the DCEU’s tone, WB has interfered with their projects before to their detriment and WB don’t like projects that fall short of their fiscal expectations. So I can fully believe they canned Batgirl out of their belief that “It isn’t cinematic (read: It won’t make billions of dollars or millions of views) enough to be a viable project for release”.
It is a lame excuse and perhaps that is the exact reason why I believe it, only Warner Brothers could be that lame and boring as to cancel a film because it isn’t going to earn them money or attention.
There is no evidence given bc the post was conjecture. “Maybe they are lying” and “perhaps we shouldn’t take them at their word” should have made it clear I’m just simply not buying what they are selling. It sounds like you aren’t either, but I’m sorry if the postulating nature of my post upset you.
My evidence is all these projects is no different to Jason X where it was completed in 2000 and shelved til 2002. Financially it wouldn’t be great if they released bat girl theatrically anytime soon since the competition is rather competitive right now in the Super Hero movie market which is also very oversaturated and IMO gonna be on the decline like Westerns.
If anything Warner will just release them randomly with very minimal marketing on a streaming service and call it a day it’s just a matter of when.
It just seems like a weird thing to doubt out of the blue is all. There is nothing wrong with doubting it but it seems odd to doubt them right off the bat. I think I might have been a bit short with you though and I am sorry, I have a lot on my plate today. Shopping for a birthday gift for my mum and then a job interview.
I can’t believe that mostly because Jason X is so bad it should have stayed mothballed in the can.
Now this is the weird thing, that was actually their plan. Originally they downgraded Batgirl from theatrical release to a HBO Max release. A big reason why I still believe the Warner reasons because if they felt Batgirl would gain them either money or subscribers then they just pulled it. Because Warner really wants you to take HBO Max seriously as a service, it is a shame Warner Brothers executives are not serious people.
Just so you know where my head was at I was adding up the reason WB gave, their mismanagement of the DC universe (I mean really the rights to Superman and Batman should be nothing but a golden egg), the fact that Hollywood lies all the time, and that it is possible to vastly cock up a superhero film (supergirl) and that’s how I got there.
Also anyone got a recent example of a giant studio like WB coming out and directly saying “well it sucked so we aren’t gonna show it.”
I would like to state that isn’t what Warner said, Warner said there decision was based purely on their own warped vision of the DCEU and HBO Max’s content and that quality had no factor. Quality obviously has never stopped them before (just see The CW Network) and it hasn’t stopped any other major media company.
But here is Netflix using the same sort of metrics based excuses to cancel yet another show after its first and only season.
Historically the most famous and historical example of a film canned even after it was done was The Day The Clown Cried directed by and starring Jerry Lewis which was canned personally by Lewis since people found a film about a clown in an extermination camp to be wildly out of taste. Lewis went to his deathbed not wanting the film to see the light of day.
It ain’t all that far fetched in the grand scheme of things. While we are in the era where Streaming is a priority over theatrical runs it won’t stop major studios from shelving projects until they feel ready to throw them on a platform or outright direct to video.
It’s a shame that everyone’s hard work is halted by corporate suits especially so close to the finish line, but with how much is done it wouldn’t be a financially good idea to just bury them forever. It’s essentially just burning money.
Can’t get Batgirl, probably can’t get Blue Beetle, can’t get Justice League Dark, most likely can’t get a Doom Patrol finale but we do get a Joker musical movie. This is the sign of Sony Pictures level mismanagement, like “Let’s release Morbius for a second time” level of stupid.
It isn’t just DC, they have sacked seventy percent of the staff at HBO Max and have taken an axe to all of the service’s original content (Content made by the actual channel HBO is still safe) with that being on top of their pivot to “live and unscripted programming” (read: Shitty reality TV).
I know why studios like reality TV. It’s cheap to produce, easy to script, and doesn’t require any special effects (usually). It’s so BORING though! I honestly don’t care about people trying to live in a house or artificial timelines for fixing a car. I don’t care about whether some interior designer gets cheap second hand paint at Home Depot and dumps a bunch of grass into it to make some stupid wall texture. I just hate reality TV!
P.S., I used to work in the building right next to where the Real World Chicago was filmed. Those people were the worst!
