Well, yeah, that would be rather difficult to pull off without computer graphics or something. I suppose you could do with animation, but that’s not what you’re talking about either.
I am as worried as you guys but Heat was so fine a film, and the book (Heat2) was also excellent, and the worst Michael Mann projects are worth watching as he just doesn’t make anything terrible… so I am excited and will give this a try.
I did think of a movie that could, theoretically, get a sequel today picking up from the point where it left off and feature the original cast (well, the only surviving member of the original cast) - The Black Hole.
At the end of The Black Hole, the main characters who survive the events of the movie travel in a probe ship through the titular black hole and come out the other side. It’s implied that they land on a planet after going through the black hole. The only surviving cast member is Joseph Bottoms (who played Lieutenant Charlie Pizer). You could easily explain the age difference as the effect of going through the black hole and you could explain that, as the youngest crew member, he was the only one who didn’t die because of it.
The robot V.I.N.CENT would have to be cast with a different voice actor though that could easily be explained by a degraded voice box or something.
Trailer for the (completely unnecessary) Crow remake. I am…skeptical (to put it generously).
Even the soundtrack sounds…limp.
I’m not inherently against remakes and reboots of older properties (the old ones are still there for everyone to enjoy if they prefer) so I’m not automatically against this movie. I saw the original movie in a theater several times while I was in College and it’s not like it’s a masterpiece of cinema or anything.
Having said that, if this movie is worth anything, my favorite line from the original better be in it.
How dare you.
There are several to choose from so now I’m curious.
And I’m not opposed to remakes in theory, but judging by the trailer, this one seems very sterilized and generic.
Some remakes are good (Godzilla Minus One), some remakes are bad (Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes). Depends on how they’re handled and what they have to say.
I didn’t say it was bad, just that it wasn’t a masterpiece. I thought at the time it originally came out, and I still think today, that if Brandon Lee hadn’t been killed during production, it wouldn’t have been as highly regarded as it is. Don’t get me wrong - I really like the movie, but it’s not Citizen Kane.
Caw, Caw, Bang, Fuck, I’m dead!
Honestly didn’t consider this… It might work, but I would probably still prefer them just sticking to the prequel bits.
But yeah, as you mention, even the worst/e Michael Mann projects are well worth watching, so I will look forward to it regardless.
Though a couple of years back, I thought he’d be doing an adaptation of the Hunting LeRoux book, which sounded rather exciting. Have you read that one?
No I have not. I’ll have to add it to my list.
Wow! The Alien x Star Trek crossover looks great! Maybe they’ll bring back Denise Crosby’s Sela, her plotline was kinda abandoned on The Next Generation.
I refuse to use this “x” nomenclature that seems to be on the rise. “x” means multiplied by, unknown (as in X-factor or Generation X), and nothing else.
Alien times Star Trek?
Godzilla unknown quantity Kong?
I refuse to play along.
It also means, one letter abbreviation for Xavier (X-Men) the letter of the alphabet immediately following W and immediately preceding Y, and in this context, crossed-with.
If the X is bothering you, can’t imaging what the Alien/Predator and Batman/Superman crossovers did to you when the directors got too lazy to put an S in the title. Come to think of it, those ones pissed me off, so maybe we’re not too far off from each other anyway.
I wholeheartedly endorse going online and typing up “Alien-Predator slash” and “Batman-Superman slash”. You will find a lot of debates on the latter but I bet you will find something special about the former.
This is not a trap.
I know they’re doing it somewhat ironically, but I am SO sick of the “slowed down, haunting vocals cover songs” that are in every freaking movie and movie trailer these days.
But, of course I’ll watch this movie. Burton said he “had fun again” (paraphrased) while making it. I should hope so. I hope this is a return to form.
Also, Winona is the best. Always has been, always will be.
Why? It’s been great every time they’ve done it.
i’m with ya. it’s so laaaazy.
Lazy to have someone try to not only successfully cover a classic, but do it in a way that makes a trailer exciting when it is played as they’re singing? As opposed to some random choir chants which, thanks to The Lord of the Rings, The Phantom Menace, and The Matrix Revolutions, will likely never be topped anyway? I don’t see it.
