Sounds about right.
He’s not the evil mirror version of the main character - he’s the one you send to kill the evil mirror version of the main character.
I mean sure it didn’t work the first time but what harm could possibly come from making a second live-action Lion King?
You say it didn’t work but the live action The Lion King is currently the ninth highest grossing film of all time, it made over $1.6 billion. Although that is perhaps more of a testament to how beloved the original film is than anything.
I would assume so, I have heard nothing but bad things about the film ever since its release and none of the other live action remakes have done as well since.
Yeah, it’s not exactly going to replace the original. It feels like the next iteration of Disney’s direct to VHS sequels they did back in the '90s and 2000’s, sequels that were low budget, and often were pretty disrespectful to their source material. (And unlike these remakes, arguably canon.) Now we have these remakes that after a while will probably genuinely be forgotten about. Disney themselves seem to have calmed down on the idea as well, they released 4 of them in 2019 but at the moment only have 1 a year slated. Snow White in 2025 will be interesting I guess because no way in hell will that film be anything like the original, Snow White is arguably the most useless Disney princess of them all. I’m kindof amazed they have the gall to remake Moana in 2026, especially when they are doing a CGI sequel to Moana at the end of this year, that seems like overkill.
I mean I would put Sleeping Beauty up there with Snow White but I feel it is unfair to say the two princesses that spend their time in what is basically medical induced comas to be “useless”.
They should at least donate part of the proceedings to some sort of Polynesian charity if they are going to exploit their culture so much in such a short period of time.
I suppose if you are being pedantic, that is true. But you know what I mean, there is an expectation, especially for a movie aimed at children, to have the female lead be at least capable. Honestly it seems like Disney princess movies especially seem to be targeted the most because everytime a new one comes out, there always seems to be an article or some such about how the new princess is strong and act like all their predeccesors were like Cinderella.
In fairness, Snow White at least knew she was a princess, broke into the home of a group of short-statured middle-age men, all of whom display attraction to her despite her being a teenager (teenage girl living with seven adult dwarves, I swear to God this is a setup to a porn film) yet she decides to stay with them because they mine diamonds and so can financially support her, then marries the first guy she meets who’s even close to her age after he kisses her in a comatose state without having even met her before.
Sleeping Beauty was raised as a responsible young lady by her three magic nannies with no idea of her privilege or birthright, at least met the guy who ended up kissing her before it happened and so had developed at least a brief rapport with him, and since they were unknowingly betrothed royalty anyway, nobody objected because they already knew the guy’s backstory. I’d take SB as my future ruler over SW, seems far more fit as a potential Queen.
Back to the point, the LALK was dull compared to the animated one (weird to say since both are animated, one is just with CGI and the other in the old fashioned way), and while I’d be cool with a Mufasa backstory, I wish they’d do that one like the original.
I prefer “playing Devil’s advocate”, pedantry is such a gauche word. If you want pedantry look at the Heisenberg post below you.
Yes I do but I still figure it is a wee bit unfair to judge them for it. Their stories require them to be helpless and when they were released the notion that a woman could do anything more than be a housewife, a trophy or both was looked on as insane by most of the population.
Hey, I resent that remark. My post was not pedantic; it was nitpicking.
I resent your being pedantic over your pedantry. Also nitpicking the least and most base form of pedantry, fit only for YouTubers and Redditors. You are better than mere nitpicking.
You ruined my punchline with a bulkier punchline, but points for keeping it funny.
I will only ever refer to the Lion King as “animated Hamlet”. The live action version is thus “live action animated Hamlet”.
What do you call Pocahontas? Blue alien-less Avatar?
Of course not. Pocahontas came out way before Avatar did and is based on a true story, sort of, kind of…in a vague disney-like way. Though I do refer to Avatar as “Dances with Blue Wolves”
No updates on any release timelines yet, but both the Riddick and Boondock Saints series are officially coming out of hiatus with their new installments in the next few years. Excited to get these characters back.
