I must say, Iām getting rather annoyed that we have someone who admits theyāve only ever played one Hitman game (WoA) and has consistently downvoted Paris a total of 7 times now⦠on the grounds that it is their least favourite WoA mapā¦
Thatās -14 points to Paris, coupled with the same person now openly campaigning for Paris to be eliminated by forming voting blocks - removing an additional -2 points already.
Paris would now be left on just [4] if it wasnāt for the +15 points it has received from other players (including almost all of my upvotes so far in this semi-final).
Paris is a map most of us rate highly and would happily see in the final. Yet, several of us are burning through our upvotes to defend a level which would typically be an uncontroversial finalist.
This is depriving us from being able to focus on supporting the levels we enjoy amid those which are more hotly contested. Sure, I could abandon Paris and concentrate on saving my favourite older levels⦠but that doesnāt feel right to me.
And I believe itās not just those of us upvoting Paris who are being deprived here. The entire competition is worse off because energy is sapped from proper battles being fought between the other levels.
(Indeed, thereās a 2nd person here, who has only played WoA, and is downvoting with the crowd to eliminate the weakest levels and progress the game more quickly - despite having previously been warned this is not within the spirit of the game. This further exacerbates the sapping of energy).
Letās not forget, also, that the person campaigning against Paris is pledging to upvote other levels in exchange for Paris downvotes. Not only do their downvotes come from a place of objective ignorance (having only played WoA), their upvotes also bear no relation to the quality of the levels they are supporting.
I consider this an act of vandalism, so far outside the spirit of the game that itās actually starting to spoil the competition in my eyes.
I suppose the conclusion Iāve arrived at - essentially just stating the obvious - is that this game is clearly designed to be played by people who are broadly familiar with all of the games in the Hitman series. The whole concept falls apart, and becomes a waste of everyoneās time, when a loud minority choose to participate from a position of extreme ignorance.
That said, the Paris downvoting situation isnāt just about ignorance of other Hitman games. It also displays ignorance of how this competition is played. After several days of downvoting Paris and several days of witnessing Paris being upvoted back to [20+] points, a rational player would realise that they simply donāt have the votes to take down Paris and would recast their efforts elsewhere. Instead, we are faced with someone who does not comprehend the basic arithmetic of the competition.
