This one hurts way more than Chuck Norris. I never watched or cared for any of his C-movies or Walker Texas Ranger, and the Norris memes got old and annoying on their second day. He played the jingoistic stereotype on screen and off, a vocal Republican and Trump supporter till the end. No love lost from me.
Nicholas Brendon was a tragic guy who played a once-in-a-lifetime role on a cult show with much, much greater staying power and cultural cache than Walker. Despite the success, the love, the support, he couldn’t save himself from his demons and addictions. He was always kind of an asshole, and his iconic character has aged more poorly than anything from Buffy including the CGI, but he was a man whose struggles constantly reminded us that no matter who you know, life is hard, unfair, and senseless. The guy was destined for an early death. It’s sad.
Yes, he’s quite controversial. He was a very influential figure in hip-hop. A true legend. But then again you hear those stories… Not sure what to make out of this. It’s like with Michael Jackson. I still enjoy his music but I’m torn about the person behind all this. Or movies by Roman Polanski. The list goes on.
I don’t remember seeing his daughter in any movies, but I have fond memories of “The Great Escape”, where he played the forger who ruins his eyesight preparing documents for the other prisoners:
I knew I knew him from somewhere. None of the headlines I saw mentioned Starship Troopers - just Days of our Lives and Melrose Place, neither of which I’ve ever watched.
